Scabies!

We've been struggling with scabies for weeks. Several rounds of cream and it keeps coming back on my 1 year old!
I've bought some Derbac M to try. Has anyone had more success with this?
And if so how do I keep it on my 1 year old for 24 hours as he eats with his hands and puts them in his mouth. Can I use derbac m on his body and cream on his hands overnight.

Please help! I'm desperate and this is really getting me down now. Dr's are useless

A 7-10 mth waiting list is disgraceful! What happens if you need to see a dermatologist a second time after that? You have to wait another 7 months? Isn’t there a way to fast track you by saying it’s really playing on your mental health? I’m so sorry. Are you able to go private? What does the Dr expect you to do in the meantime? You should ask them.

Out of interest has the doc ruled out bacterial infection eg have they previously supplied fucidin or fucibet cream? This is an antibiotic cream

Impetigo can causes blisters on hands and feet. Have you deffo ruled that out?

Hi there

Im really struggling with what I’m being treated for is scabies but not so sure. I’ve now used lyclear as standard (one treatment one week apart) and more intense as didn’t clear (3 times over three nights then another two nights a week later). I still feel itchy and only last used it not even 48 hours ago and aware from reading that’s normal. What’s weird is I’m still breastfeeding my daughter and have been throughout and she doesn’t seem to have it at all and hasn’t at any stage. Has anyone else had this? Also since the three times in a row it seems to have spread to my face. I’ve been prescribed by GP and I’m waiting list for dermo but apparently it’s still months. Being struggling with this since July and feeling at wits end! Have been doing all hygiene but do wonder if could do more so have now ordered a spray and oil. Would love to get a skin test to confirm it’s definitely scabies! Any advice or anyone who has fully recovered would be so helpful as can’t seem to find any positive recovery stories! Thank you

Really sorry youre going thorugh this too.
How long are you leaving between treatments and are you treating your child too? And scalp and face?

Have you tried taking antihistamines for the itch? Eurex cream? Have the doctors already looked at allergy or bacterial skin infection and ruled that out? Have you treated you scalp also and other family
members? The itching should start to get less over the course of a week or so.

So luckily they rang me for a cancellation appointment within the hour, it was a mad dash but we made it. I was going to book a doctors appointment that day so it was good timing. He has a couple of spots that they looked at but he wouldn't let them look long enough to look for burrows. But admittedly this time his spots are different and much slower progressing than the last few times before we've done a treatment. They have prescribed him ivermectin and permethrin together, both the Dr and consultant said its very safe.

No other cream has ever been mentioned or even a different diagnosis discussed.

How are you guys doing? Are you all clear now

That’s such great news. Is the ivermectin a syrup or a cream that they have given your little one? Have they given it to you to take also. This is really good news.

we are ok still coming out in the odd spots but in general mostly free of it. Not itching but she. A spot does pop up I feel itchy on that area only and then put cream on that area abs it goes. Still confused.

Are you yourself completely free now?

Did they prescribe soolantra cream for baby? Or was there a syrup? I’ve only heard of the cream.

Momofthree072316 · 01/12/2024 14:52

We are also going to be trying ivermectin in lotion form next week. Have you been prescribed the tablet form?

Tinydancer1234 · 01/12/2024 18:57

Is this soolantra cream and if so did they recommend all over body or just on areas of spots?

They've given oral ivermectin for him tablet form. They couldn't give it to us so I plan to go to the GP and see if they will so I have held off on treatment for him as there's a handful of reasons I couldn't do it straight away.
I'm really confused though as the spots he had when they saw him have near enough healed and the very few pustules on his hands he had at the time are practically gone. All without treatment. I'm going to speak to the gp regarding steps to take because if it was his body reacting to so many treatments I don't want to dive into more. I'd have expected him to be itchy or more widespread by now so very confusing.

Doc did say it's almost always a case of reinfection rather than treatment not working. But I'm sceptical

Glad you are all doing OK. Are you still doing any treatment

Yes tablet form with permethrin at the same time. They never mentioned any other topical

That is such good news that his hands are clear. Re reinfection of an anyone still getting spots in the family? How have they suggested to give a little one tablet form as in how do they take it as it’s not as if they can swallow it whole? It seems so strange that they haven’t prescribed the whole family too. I’m sure the doc will prescribe it to you now the little one has been. I be tempted to leave the little one until you see the gp for ivermectin yourselves and then do it all together that way it also gives a few days to see if any new spot appear in the mean time.

Are tou still getting the odd spots or is everyone else clear now? Do yu still get itchy?

My skin is very clear at the moment. 1 spot literally and my son has one on his wrist so they have really died down. I still get itchy moments though which is odd- by very often but sometimes.

Tinydancer1234 · 16/12/2024 09:26

How have you found the ivermectin on little one? Has it worked? My little boy has been clear for a couple of weeks but this morning came out with one on his hand and shoulder 😩

Tinydancer1234 · 16/12/2024 09:29

Also you said it was tablet form. How
does the dr expect a baby to take a tablet? Crushed in food? I think I may have to go back to my dermatologist after this mornings spots popping up.

Momofthree072316 · 16/12/2024 12:52

We have done two rounds of ivermectin lotion and so far hoping things will clear but too early to tell.

Tinydancer1234 · 16/12/2024 23:43

Is that the soolantra cream?

Tinydancer1234 · 16/12/2024 23:44

Blanket how are you doing after the ivermectin? Hope you are doing well.

Blanket26 · 17/12/2024 08:41

Yeah they said to crush it. We are still yet to use it as GP didn't want to give me and my partner any without speaking to the dermatologist herself but I haven't heard back from anyone. All his spots cleared up on their own but he has 1 on his foot now. I am very hesitant to retreat incase we are clear as it's been 7 weeks since his last treatment and logically if we still had it I'd expect him to be covered in rash, spots or itching by now. We are back at the gp for something else today so will see if the hospital has responded on his file and whether they want me to go ahead with treatment or not

hi Blanket26 - can you pls let me know how the 7 weeks have gone for you? Was it just spots on the hands? Or did he have on his body as well? How long did it take for them to subside? I’m always not sure if it’s over treatment spots or new rash

Momofthree072316 · 17/12/2024 11:44

It’s not soolantra- had to get a compound pharmacy to mix 0.5% ivermectin lotion as not sold in the Uk. But I read a lot of studies that use 1% that is soolantra. I opted for the cream because its absorption into the body is a lot lower and treatment outcomes vs oral tablet seem to be better.

So he did get a flare up of new pustules on his hands about a month ago. But they have all healed on their own. New red bumps used to make me nervous but I honestly just try to monitor them now, if they spread then id consider treating but ours would disappear quickly and we wouldnt get many. Id only go the doctors because his hands got so bad. In the end I've been getting more concerned about over treating than scabies so I've held off until I've been confident of a reinfection. I will find a picture of his hands now and post it

OP posts:
Blanket26 · 17/12/2024 12:11

So this was just one of his hands. First picture was the day before we started a treatment. Second picture was 3 weeks later 2 days after finishing our third consecutive week of treatment. So even though some pustules disappeared new ones would constantly be erupting

OMG you are giving me the heebie jeebies with this - didn't realise what it was. How grim - I would liturally throw everything at it for everyone incase you are all just reinfecting each other etc - lots of hot washes of betting in particular, favourite toys and blankies, clothes, towels and so on

Tinydancer1234 · 17/12/2024 15:42

Hi Boanket, yes I agree with you, like you said it’s been 7 weeks of no treatment and surely it would have spread all over by now. I wonder if it’s something else like a staph infection? Like you said it seems strange. My son was also fine and not had one spot on him for the last 2 weeks and suddenly came out with two pustules. None of us are in thing and my skin s so clear now bar the odd one or two which o wouldn’t even notice normally. Did you try sulphur cream on little one? You can get ones with tea tree in so antibacterial also. Just a thought. It’s so good to hear his hands are finally clearing and looking better than before ♥️

Fleamaker · 18/12/2024 16:34

That looks like dyshidrotic ezcma, is it anywhere else on his body?
Have you had it confirmed as definite scabies, it's very difficult to diagnose.

No I literally just left his skin alone completely. His hands are clear but waiting for it all to come flooding back to be honest. How are you doing?

He's seen 4 different gps multiple times, a consultant and a dermatologist.
The first 2 treatments he had a rash on abdomen and burrows on hands. But the last few treatments have just been hands and feet flaring like this but always continued appearing through treatments. I believed dyshydrotic eczema to be more clear liquid blisters rather than pustules
