Scabies!

We've been struggling with scabies for weeks. Several rounds of cream and it keeps coming back on my 1 year old!
I've bought some Derbac M to try. Has anyone had more success with this?
And if so how do I keep it on my 1 year old for 24 hours as he eats with his hands and puts them in his mouth. Can I use derbac m on his body and cream on his hands overnight.

Please help! I'm desperate and this is really getting me down now. Dr's are useless

Hi everyone, this thread has been so helpful and just wanted to check in on how everyone is doing.

I went to the doctor today for a rash that hasn’t cleared in 6 weeks and she think it’s scabies. This evening has been a flurry of washing, hoovering and covering my husband and I in the treatment cream. All our bedding is in bin bags and we’re using clean stuff from the guest room that’s been in the dryer. Coats, shoes, blankets and cushions are in bin bags until Sunday. With work, probably won’t have time to wash anything again until Friday.

I’m so sick of being itchy and having these ugly spot and can’t think where I’ve caught it. Mine ate predominantly on my abdomen, back and all over my legs 😭

Sorry to hear you are faced with this - but it too shall pass! My little boy is finally in the clear. It took nearly 9 months but we got there. The main thing that worked for him is ivermectin lotion. He did continue to plbreal out in a post scabies rash for a good 3-4 months (mainly on his hands and feet) but I resisted the urge to treat and his skin settled. As adults we never had it bad and permethrin worked. I also found mixing a bit of tea tree oil with a soothing lotion helped to calm the skin. All the best to you!

Sorry to hear this@Limmers14

My son found this helped relieve symptoms a bit - it isn’t a cure though. He needed three rounds of tablets and cream from a consultant to manage that

Thank you for sharing! Does anyone have advice for cleaning chairs? I know to hoover them but are there any cleaning sprays?

Hi, I’m almost 3 months into my scabies journey, which so far seems to be a downward spiral including gaslighting by arrogant dermatologist, lovely GP trying to convince me it’s gone to help my anxiety and it’s what he genuinely believes, despite lesions popping up here, there and everywhere -oh and rashes.
I’ve annoyed a few readers on here by posting a lot with questions about scabies, but I honestly feel so wretched, I’m desperate and have lost hope and my dignity.
Did you finally clear scabies in your household?
Any top tips ?
How long did it finally take?

seeing a new dermo on a few weeks.

Thanks in advance for any help.🙏

Hang in there Snoopypie , it will go eventually. I thought I was going to have it for life but it eventually went. Keep up hot salty baths , putting emollient on , changing bedding , clothes etc as much as you can.

Hi ladies,
Reddit/facebook group seem to panic and depress me even more than I am already, so I often come back on here to read through your thread as it remains so level headed and is so relatable.

I took your tip of spot treating, plus treat my hands and feet daily regardless!

off to see an infectious diseases doctor tomorrow at my request and have got Derbac M shipped over from uk ….and I’ve bought a dryer now.

Whilst the financial cost is really mounting up, and my mental health continues to be hugely impacted what worries me most is passing this on.

So far I’ve had it (the week of initial rash outbreak) 5 months now, I’ve been careful and have been avoiding going to people’s houses or accepting lifts of anyone . Furthermore we’ve got relatives coming over from the UK staying with us in October (they’ll have a separate bathroom and separate bed linen ,unused bed) who will also be using one of our cars.

Did you find that you spread it and were as contagious as all articles suggest?

Did you finally clear it?

I had 6 psychology sessions, didn’t really help - I feel there was me before scabies and the after scabies me-I took so much for granted eg arranging theatre trips with female friends, hugging my dog and feeling relaxed when I hopped into bed at night…the list is endless - my joys in life are now really basic like I watched a great tv programme, I didn’t get a new bump appear at work or listening to the birds sing.

I completely understand your concerns and I really feel for you, it’s honestly such a horrible thing to go through.
My family and I are finally scabies-free now after months of dealing with it. At one point, I genuinely thought it would never end, but after about 7–8 months it cleared, and we haven’t had any issues since.
Have you been offered ivermectin tablets at all? My grandmother unfortunately caught it from us, and her doctor prescribed them a couple of times until her symptoms fully settled. I ended up asking my doctor for them too, and I do think that was a real turning point for us. It’s not an instant fix, the itching can still linger for a while as your skin heals but it’s definitely worth discussing with your doctor.
I know how isolating and draining it can feel, but from experience, it does get better and you will get through it!!!

@Stickytoffee21thank you for your lovely message of hope , and I’m so glad you and your family are clear.

Yes, I’ve had 4 weekly treatments of Ivermectin tablets and a 2 x doses a month prior to that.

Keel getting red marks, bumps (some itchy/some not) but have been cleared 6 times since January, saw Infectious Diseases doc today and whilst she’s not reached any conclusions yet she doesn’t think it’s scabies, but I’m having bloods and going back next week.
I went armed with loads of photos again , showed her a couple of bumps but dismissed. I think she thinks I’ve got some sort of phobia where you imagine you are infected by parasites.

I need to have the confidence to stop treating , but I can’t risk another big infestation.

The doctor was lovely and I haven’t finished my consults with her yet.

My GP did see a burrow back in November when I was first diagnosed.

That is so wrong Snoopypie . Gaslighting you. I had same problem with drs not taking me seriously. In fact something as simple as scabies has made me realise how bad some drs can be .
DS with a stress rash by his dr . Took months to get the correct diagnosis by DS himself when we had by that time already caught it ! Poor DS suffered for months with it undiagnosed.
My drs didn’t believe me when I said mine hadn’t gone and it was only a consultant rheumatologist who was the only one who said yes I had them still . She was female . I honestly think a lot of Asian male drs are not taking women’s concerns seriously. One of them had never heard of Ivermectin . Got his medical book out. They had trained and qualified in Pakistan.

Thank you for your reply and understanding @Kerstina,I really do feel like there is a lot of gaslighting , but not intentional! The world needs to invest in scabies research a lot more so that a vaccine and blood test can be developed.
The impact on mental health is huge!
