Hip thrusting at night keeps toddler up

tudorqueenie · 17/06/2024 06:46

I have a 2.5 year old daughter whose sleep has been heavily affected by what I’d describe as itchiness in her nappy. She does this hip thrusting motion at night (it does sometimes happen during the day but it is mostly at night), and it wakes her up and she is very uncomfortable. She says it is itchy and it burns. I have tried all the creams, I have tried one prescription one for fungal infections. I have tried six different types of nappy including a cloth one, in case it had to do with the material. It did not make a difference. We have tried laxatives as suggested by the pharmacist, it did not help. She has no redness and she does not actually itch anything with her hands. The only thing I can imagine is that maybe her pee is burning her at night and she feels it more because her pee is more concentrated then. my issue is that I cannot seem to be able to collect her wee - she will not pee in a potty even if I wait for two hours. I do not want to force her. I tried squishing the cloth nappy to see if the pee comes out but it does not. Any tips on doing this? Or any tips on what this could be? Thank you so much in advance!

Ah if she doesn’t go to nursery then where would she have caught them from? Unless you or your husband have them and don’t notice. Maybe it’s worth treating you all as a one off.

They can be caught from anywhere. A child scratches his bum and then goes on the park swing, your child goes on it next and holds the same rope, your child then eats a crisp before washing their hands. The eggs have gone from the child's bum to the swing rope, then to your child's fingers and then into their stomach from the crisp eating. Or it could have been from touching a toy at playgroup or a pedestrian crossing button. They're not just caught from child care or education settings.

Apparently one of the worst places to catch worms are sandpits.

Mumoftwo1316 · 23/06/2024 08:42

People can have them asymptomatically so you or your dh may have had them first, op! You could have caught it from work, public transport etc.

That's why you treat everyone in the house

Oh my goodness!

Yeah, OP, just treat everyone in case.

Mischance · 23/06/2024 09:19

Sandpits indeed are full of the eggs... and any soil. No need to tell pharmacist anything ... just ask for the stuff ... say your child has worms. Or get from online pharmacy ... see my link above.
Ours were always getting them ... especially the thumbscrews... the eggs are under their fingernails.
Little girls have more trouble with them cos they wriggle around their vulva and irritate like mad.
Get the jollop down NOW!!!

Thumbscrews!!! .... thumb suckers!!!

Thank you so much for all your comments, I really appreciate it! Just to answer a few questions: we do not have any pets and my daughter doesnt go to nursery. I will go back to the pharmacy today and ask. I have checked in the dark with a lamp and could not see anything. It is reassuring to know that Ovex doesnt do any harm so will go to another pharmacy and ask

They don't come from pets, they come from other people and can be caught anywhere other hands touch. The eggs are hugely resilient so can survive on surfaces for a long time until ingested. Horrid little things but far more common than people realise

I still can’t eat raspberry flavoured chocolate 😫

Heh I still get flashbacks if I even get a whiff of a similar smell Grin

The eggs are really sticky, they float in dust. They settle on touch points. You can pick up an egg anywhere. It's more likely in the house when borns scratch and then touch everywhere like.

Ovex takes a few days to work. Not like the stuff we had to drink that caused explosive diarrhea. Fun times.

My pet dog ( regularly wormed) passed a thrashing roundworm last year-

I was truly shocked as assumed that three monthly worming ( as advised by vet) was adequate.

Turns out that people and pets can pick them up from
the environment- cat poop contains loads of eggs , so soil &c.

Vet advised monthly worming to ensure no egg laying adults develop in a pet.

Children can develop “visceral larval migrans” from un- wormed pets. - rare but unpleasant.

Op check around vagina as well. My Dd had worms that went into the vagina.

She regularly was sore and itchy but as it was at the front I didn't consider worms until I actually saw one!

I would take the ovex as a precaution

MsouthLondon · 07/09/2024 09:07

Hi! Did you ever find out what it was? We are in a similar situation and nothing seems to fix it 🫠

Have you tried worming like has been suggested?

Positivenancy · 07/09/2024 09:49

Everyone should be treated for worms once a year! Why are people not doing this!??

Pharmacists seem to have had a bit of a crackdown on this. I always like to keep a box of Ovex in the house so I can treat worms immediately but the last time I went to the pharmacy they told me they could only sell them to me if I said I had seen worms. Seems like that was also OP's experience. In the end I just lied. They knew I was lying but sold it to me anyway.

liveforsummer · 07/09/2024 12:02

@lavenderlou they seem to be doing the same with a lot of things now. I used to be able to go and buy conjunctivitis cream easily (handy to have in first aid kit for horse and a tube doesn't last long on a huge animal 😆) now I have to jump through hoops and tell fibs. Maybe easier to get from an online pharmacy?
