Hip thrusting at night keeps toddler up

tudorqueenie · 17/06/2024 06:46

I have a 2.5 year old daughter whose sleep has been heavily affected by what I’d describe as itchiness in her nappy. She does this hip thrusting motion at night (it does sometimes happen during the day but it is mostly at night), and it wakes her up and she is very uncomfortable. She says it is itchy and it burns. I have tried all the creams, I have tried one prescription one for fungal infections. I have tried six different types of nappy including a cloth one, in case it had to do with the material. It did not make a difference. We have tried laxatives as suggested by the pharmacist, it did not help. She has no redness and she does not actually itch anything with her hands. The only thing I can imagine is that maybe her pee is burning her at night and she feels it more because her pee is more concentrated then. my issue is that I cannot seem to be able to collect her wee - she will not pee in a potty even if I wait for two hours. I do not want to force her. I tried squishing the cloth nappy to see if the pee comes out but it does not. Any tips on doing this? Or any tips on what this could be? Thank you so much in advance!

Have you checked for worms? They can be worse at night

Marblessolveeverything · 17/06/2024 06:59

There is a specific disposable device that you pop on under her nappy. I would ask at the pharmacy, pediatric urine sample bag.

Suspiciousmind1 · 17/06/2024 23:03

My guess would be works too. My 4 year old has very disturbed sleep and would wake up crying. Check now with a torch while she’s sleeping

Suspiciousmind1 · 17/06/2024 23:03

*Worms

HousedInMySoul · 17/06/2024 23:08

Worms. I saw one wriggling out of dc's bumhole when he had them. Ovex all round! 🤮

lovemycbf · 17/06/2024 23:30

Yeah I'd say worms too
Speak to a pharmacist ovex is a brand you'd have to check because of her young age. Treat the whole family and hot wash all bedding, underwear and towels

tudorqueenie · 22/06/2024 06:43

Thanks so much for all your replies. I have spoken to a pharmacist, a GP and a nurse. I showed them my daughter’s poo and they don’t think it’s worms. They gave us some antibiotics - this didnt work either. She keeps doing this and she cant sleep properly :(( will submit a urine sample on Monday if I can

Worms often aren't visible in poo. You need to actually check her bottom while she's doing the movement. It sounds very typical of works tbh

AnotherCountryMummy · 22/06/2024 07:12

Treat her for worms! It won't harm her if she doesn't have them, but could quickly solve the problem! Speak to your pharmacist about the right tablets.

Cantfindthewordsddstruggling · 22/06/2024 07:15

Another poster saying treat the whole family for worms. Easy to treat and then rule out as being a contributing factor.

SD1978 · 22/06/2024 07:31

How long has it been happening? I agree with those saying treat for worms anyway- as it wouldn't do any harm. Best way to look for them is in a dark room, and aim a torch (phone light works) at the genital area, and you'll see them head towards the light. Both fascinating and disgusting.......

liveforsummer · 22/06/2024 07:34

You won't see thread worms in poo unless they are really really bad. Just treat her on the off chance, or won't do any harm. My dd had very similar symptoms age 3 and thats what it turned out to be

ApertureFraperture · 22/06/2024 07:39

Another vote for worms! Having gotten them from my child I can confirm they are far worse at night! After the first time we kept ovex in the cupboard and then treated everyone at the first sign of itching at night. It has always done the trick.

HouseFullOfChaos · 22/06/2024 07:41

Treat for worms today, they're very common. I'd rather treat for worms than give antibiotics again. The medicine needs to be used by everyone in the household and can be bought from any pharmacy, Boots even do their own version. Wash all towels in bio detergent - including hand towels, then wash all bedding too. All the symptoms scream that she has worms so it'd be very silly not to treat her for them.

Omg worms??? Really? That's gross

Worms are very common in children. Bore off.

That. You've done a million things, but not the one thing that's ridiculously obvious and the simplest of all to address. One dose of over the counter Ovex and she'd be free of the discomfort within 24 hours.

If it works, then yes, treat the whole family.

Grow up 🙄

It does sound like worms. Very easy to treat.

lavenderlou · 22/06/2024 08:10

My DC had worms several times and it does sound similar. They both felt pain in their vaginas rather than itching from the anus.

RosieposiePuddingandPi · 22/06/2024 08:10

I'd agree with treating for worms, DD had them at around the same age and it took ages for us to realise that's what it was. Similar thing of her telling me it was itchy or burning but couldn't see anything until I took her nappy off one night and she had loads of them crawling around.
One round of Ovex for the whole family and a lot of washing and they vanished! She picked it up at nursery.

lavenderlou · 22/06/2024 08:11

You don't always see worms but the symptoms will go within 48 hours when treated. You may need a follow up dose after two weeks.

ShipshapeShore · 22/06/2024 08:12

I had the similat, GP said it definitely wouldn't be worms. It was, and a dose of ovex solved the problem.

That is revolting. Why are kids getting worms?

Cheeesus · 22/06/2024 08:14

No harm in treating for worms. Do a second dose after ten days to break the life cycle and catch new hatchlings.

Same as nits. They’re just a thing.
