Anyone on here not vaccinate their children?
anyone on here do vaccinate ?
what are your reasons for both ?

did anyone lose trust in the NHS during covid after the vaccine roll out?

just an open chat!

Mine are vaccinated because I grew up in a country where polio, measles, rubella etc still kill and maim hundreds (thousands?) of children every year. I've seen too many people begging on the street due to the effects of polio rendering them unable to work, to be vaccine-hesitant (or "a vintage disease enthusiast" as my DSis calls them 🤣)

The only person I know who is an anti-vaxxer also just brushes her daughter's teeth with water and not toothpaste 'because fluoride is a chemical' 😳that's the level of stupidity and neglect it can get to once you choose Facebook etc over medical professionals.

I think its important that those who chose not to vaccinate recognise that the reason they have that luxury is that the majority of people do vaccinate.

This, they are lucky enough that the sense of most people means their daft decision most likely won’t cause them harm, however if not wnough vaccinate we have a major problem. It’s also incredibly selfish to put vulnerable children who have leukaemia etc at risk. How would you feel if it was your child, hoping all their friends were protecting them?

LoveSandbanks · 04/05/2024 20:14

My oldest is 22. He was born during the anti vaccine days. I was initially not going to give the mmr and went off to find research to back up my views.

I couldn’t find anything credible so they had all vaccines.

2 out of 3 of our children have autism, I probably have autism and dh has several cousins who have autistic children. It’s fuck all to do with vaccines and everything to do with genetics.

we do laugh tho’ when we get a flu or Covid vaccine we call it the autism upgrade 🤣

bakewellbride · 04/05/2024 20:14

@Italianita what are the odds of that happening?

I wonder what's statistically more likely to happen 'vaccine damage' or contracting a disease like measles.

We have to weigh up the odds and act responsibly I.e vaccinate.

My cousin is severely brain damaged because of measles.

leaflywren · 04/05/2024 20:15

I was nervous beforehand, but thank goodness my kid's dad was very pro vaccine and convinced me. He lived in many countries where he saw kids dying and made disabled from preventable diseases. He saw what these diseases do and was adamantly pro vaccine, which helped me overcome my hesitancy. I am now very pro vaccine.

welshycake · 04/05/2024 20:16

Vaccinated so they don't die

DancefloorAcrobatics · 04/05/2024 20:17

My DC have all vacancies up to date.

The benefits outweigh the risks a gazillion to one!

🍪

MonsteraMama · 04/05/2024 20:17

Yes I did because I didn't want my child to die of a completely preventable disease. HTH.

That does not make any sense at all.

BigcatofBodmin · 04/05/2024 20:19

Mine are vaccinated for the usual things OP but none of us are vaccinated against covid. I didn't see the need to.

Had I thought we were at serious risk from covid I may have changed my mind but now I'm very glad we didn't.

The fact that you don’t seem to comprehend that is a very unlikely occurance (if it’s even true) and instead have put your child at risk of catching a lot of hideous medieval diseases. Until now your child has been protected by children like mine, but unfortunately stupidity is almost as infectious as polio, measles, mumps and rubella and more and more people aren’t vaccinating

sawnotseen · 04/05/2024 20:20

My children had separate vaccines for mmr when they were babies, privately. . They had the combined one when they were older. We all had our Covid vac

LadySlipper · 04/05/2024 20:21

My kids were vaccinated and my adult son got mumps and ended up spending 3 days in hospital. He's teacher and I suspect he got it from an unvaccinated student. I dread to think how bad he would have had it or after affects he might have suffered if he hadn't been vaccinated.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 04/05/2024 20:22

She's fully vaccinated with all the usual vaccines plus extras such as travel vaccines and chicken pox vaccine

Umbongowasyuk · 04/05/2024 20:27

Everything but covid. I even paid for the meningitis one. The covid one seemed a bit rushed to me

sheoaouhra · 04/05/2024 20:30

covid is still killing and maiming. I get every covid jab I am offered

VeraForever · 04/05/2024 20:36

Polio is still in my mind after decades, as well as TB ( prevalent in my part of the midlands where I grew up.)

We get complacent after a number of years and we do start to wonder but vaccinations are there to protect not just our children, but society as a whole.

Paul Alexander comes to mind when people mention Polio. There’s a documentary about him. Hasn’t been able to breathe on his own since getting it. Lived his entire life in a metal tube that breathes for him. He’s made a life despite this but no one wants that for our kids.

sleepyscientist · 04/05/2024 20:45

DS is 10 so a a lot of years ago but he had individual vaccines (private) vs the MMR jab as ITP runs in the family. He also had chicken pox and covid vaccines, we are 100% provaccine just not MMR wish they would license the individual vaccines again.

VeraForever · 04/05/2024 20:46

It’s so very , very sad yet so many of todays parents seem to be pushing against vaccinations as though it’s some kind of conspiracy.

I never want to go back to those days.

JuicyOrange01 · 04/05/2024 20:56

Mine are vaccinated HOWEVER…

i Did witness myself something that made me realise vaccine damage is real and I know this will probably get deleted and I’ll be shot down but whatever.

My gorgeous intelligent friend who is a mum of 4 took her DD3 to get the mmr as she did her other kids. Her DD was walking, talking and your average toddler. I’d seen her at a toddler group the previous week. Honestly your average toddler.

Her DD got the vaccine and screamed holy hell as a lot of babies/toddler do. However she did not stop screaming. She screamed all the way home, after calpol, after cuddles, after everything. I remember this clearly because my DF put in the mum WhatsApp group about her DD screaming and asking if anytime else had experienced this and any tips.
Her DD eventually stopped screaming that night and just cried whilst rocking herself back and fourth to self soothe. That night her DD kept sobbing now again whilst rocking herself.
The next morning her DD had stopped crying but sstill continued to rock.
She stopped saying ‘mama’ but kept saying ‘juice’ which was odd to DF but she continued to give calpol and stayed in the house the day to let her rest.
72 hours later and her DD was still rocking back and fourth and was speaking less and less words other than ‘juice’.

DF took her DD to the GP within a few days as so worried. The GP was dismissive about how it couldn’t be related to the vaccine etc and must be a developmental leap or something to that nature.
DF couldn’t wrap her head around WTF was going on.
2 weeks later and her DD was entirely non-verbal and CONSTANTLY rocking back and fourth. She ended up going back to the GP and breaking down. Took in videos and everything of her DD literally hours and days before the vaccine.
The GP finally took her seriously and sent her to paediatrics for scans and tests and all sorts etc.

Needless to say DF DD is now almost entirely non-verbal and stims constantly back and fourth. She is severely autistic.

I wouldn’t have believed it myself but I saw her DD at playgroup the week before with my own eyes and saw her a few weeks later. She is a completely different child.

You can’t tell me that the little girl who was dancing around in a Cinderella dress to frozen at playgroup, turned severely disabled practically overnight and the mmr had NOTHING to do with it?!! Then wtf was it?!

My very intelligent, funny, kind and educated friend has been gaslit by medical professionals and it was horrendous.

She is no ‘conspiracy’ theorist. Her previous kids were vaccinated hence why she got her third vaccinated. Shes in fact very strait laced, no nonsense.

I know people don’t like to hear it on mumsnet and prior to this first hand experience I would’ve commented the same. But I know what I saw.

Therefore I honestly think these discussions need to be had and not automatically shot down as crazy conspiracy theories. It does a disservice to people like my dear friend who are then left isolated and thinking their going crazy when shit happens.
