I am brand new here, I have just found this website.

My daughter has suddenly started to complain tonight of belly pain all over. Has been on and off the loo but nothing is coming out. Has been fine and well all day went to gymnastics club no dramas. Since about 8pm has said she feels sick and cant settle. I have given her paracetamol at 9 when after the pain didnt pass. She also has a fever of 39.8. Im just stuck shes never had anything like this before and has gone from being fine to not rapidly.

I have called our local out of hours number waiting for them to call me back. I know there's lots going round any tips or tricks? My other daughter / her twin is absolutely fine

Call 111, could be appendicitis?

Report
nocoolnamesleft · 25/03/2024 23:23

That's quite a high fever for most tummy bugs in the UK. UTI might be possible, but I'd be wondering about the possibility of appendicitis. Daft sounding question: can she hop? Because if not I'd probably be heading for A&E.

I have called out out of hours they said they would call back by 12.

@nocoolnamesleft its defo not appendicitis she had that 2.5 years ago. With that she had sudden right lower belly pain but tonight its all over

How old is she? Makes sure you take off her pyjamas and leave her in just her knickers to get the air to her body. As hash as it sounds till her temperature comes down x

Sorry to hear this, sounds so uncomfortable for little one. If it was just the tummy pain, I’d think it could be some trapped wind as that can be very painful. Due to the temp, it may be some sort of Infection. Let us know how you get on with out of hours xx

Did anything happen at Gymnastics Club? Even a small slip or knock? If she says she doesn’t think so I’d still bring it up with the doctor that she’d just done a gymnastics class when it came on.

Unless she's had her appendix removed it could still be appendicitis - mine hurt all over my stomach not just one side.

How old is she? I'd go to a&e for this

Although my son was still going to the toilet, he had severely impacted colon. Dr's think for 2 months due to being unwell before xmas and on antibiotics. He was screaming our doubled over in pain whenever he moved, ate or drank. He had a temp, they put it all down to that and gave him laxatives which he is still taking 6 weeks on.

Ditto the hop. She won't be able to if appendix

She is 12. They both say nothing happened at gymnastics and she was fine. She came home and started to feel unwell around 6 ish. She didnt tell me for a little while had a bath then told me she was feeling worse till about 9. The GP is coming here in the next few minutes apparently they are in the area.

I have taken off her Pjs and left her with a light blanket she is feeling cold but I know thats fever related. Her hands and feet are freezing

There are glands in the abdominal area that get inflamed/enlarged when a temperature spikes.

They can cause horrible pain for young children/people .

Especially if temp spikes quite quickly I was told .

Had it with my son .

The out of hours doctor has just been she was really sweet. She checked her over and cant really find a cause currently and this its likely to be viral. She Mia vomited while they were here so they gave her an injection to hopefully stop the vomiting. Her belly is hard so they think it maybe constipation they have given us a letter if she gets worse overnight to go to hospital but also a prescription for lactulose and buscapan. She is also sending our own GP a message to see us tomorrow evening for review if we are no better but also no worse.

The GP has said to leave her as she is with just the blanket and watch her temp, once it goes below 37.7 she can have her pjs back but for now to keep her in her undies and light blanket.

Ohh I hope your dd settles for the night now and you all get a bit of a rest .

It is so worrying when these things happen late at night ....they always seem so much scarier.

Ps...you may have put your dd's name in the post ?

@bizzey thank you. It's always without fail either a weekend or a night time event isn't it. Thankfully it's now and not the bank holiday weekend I guess is the silver lining.

Ohh yes I have named her 🙈 I guess it's fine I'm sure nobody minds knowing her name. I feel we are in for a rough night she's vomiting still and her temp is still high but at least it's 38.9 now on the way down I hope

How’s your girl doing this morning, luv?

Report
QueenW · 26/03/2024 09:39

No change really. She's still got a temperature and everything hurts. Her belly pain is more in one place now instead of all over. We are seeing our own GP at 11

Has she started her periods yet?

Apologies for source of message Blush I've been watching classic Casualty whilst off work sick. One of the episodes had a girl around your dd's age with bad stomach pain/fever. She was embarrassed as friends were teasing her re not having started periods. Later in the episode was diagnosed with imperforate hymen - her hymen sealed vaginal opening shut, she was having periods but it was building up internally as blood couldn't get out.

Report
QueenW · 26/03/2024 10:18

@MassiveOvaryaction no, no periods yet. I would guess they can't be to far off though

We ended up in A&E last week with this as they suspected appendicitis. No evidence of it on examination and she was better in a couple of days. We also got told it might be constipation (it wasn't) but then it turned out DDs friend had exactly the same symptoms the week before. I think it's a strange bug that's going round

Thanks all. We are in hospital now. Just had an xray and loads of bloods. The GP is worried about a blockage in her belly or maybe an infection in her belly
