My 4yo dd has been sick every evening apart from Friday since Tuesday does anyone no what this could be took her to go which suggested reflux? But she won’t take the gaviscon as that makes her heave so defeats the object got so worried took her to a&e last night they said obs were fine and sent us on our way pretty much.. just wondering if it could be anxiety/excitment due to the lead up for Christmas she is fine before and after being sick no pain or temp I remember when I was a child I use to be sick every year before my school Christmas party just wondering if anyone’s child has had anything like this as I’m worrying myself sick

Is there any commonality in what she has eaten at dinner time every day except the one where she wasn't sick?

Acid reflux usually has triggers so it could be that there is a food or style of cooking eg fried that's aggravating her more. It could be that she's developed and intolerance to a specific ingredient.

Nothing that I’ve noticed although I think I’m going to try keep a food diary from now

Dd had this a month back, couldn’t figure it out, she had a cold and cough at the time aswell, was fine during the day and only sick at night. Happened over 4 evenings. Shes still got the lingering cold.. still no idea what caused it.

Taciturn · 24/12/2023 22:07

Electrolyte imbalance? My DD had something similar at a similar age, following a cold bug. She was sick every evening after dinner, but fine rest of the time
Try coca cola (original full sugar) and see if things improve.

Worriedmumma92 · 25/12/2023 10:52

She has got a bit of a snotty nose but was sick twice last night I’m hoping it’s the excitement of Christmas and things will start to improve done the worst thing by googling and now thinking the worst 😩

She will not drink anything fizzy she looks so drained bless her but she’s fine in herself although not wanted to eat this morning unsure if it’s the fear of being sick 😩 and I think she looks a bit pasty as she keeps throwing up bless her

Worriedmumma92 · 25/12/2023 14:51

Oh really she’s just tried to eat a bit of dinner and I have given her a Lucozade sport so hoping she keeps something down

We also had this. Lasted about a week! Had it once before too. Very odd but try to extend the very plain food. And put towels on the bed and pillows!

whereaw · 25/12/2023 14:55

Should be BRAT diet, and things like plain biscuits and dry cereal. Could be an over sensitive tummy

Worriedmumma92 · 27/12/2023 05:46

Well she was fine all day Christmas Day let her have a orange lucozade sport as she was looking drained and she wasn’t sick at all thought we might of cracked it then last night (Boxing Day night) she puked again 😩 on day 8 now surely this isn’t normal??

We had something similar when DS was little, I can't completely remember the details though - it was something like he was sick 6 or 7x, each time separated by a precise number of hours, like 22 hours or something.

GeneCity · 27/12/2023 10:12

Hope your DD is better soon.

Worriedmumma92 · 27/12/2023 14:37

Update I have taken her to gp today they had no idea what is going on said to just give her food little and often they have done a referral to the paediatric team and said if she gets any worse to bring her back so just a waiting game for it to either pass or for her appointment 😩

I get this sometimes and it's reflux for me, but I wouldn't describe the symptoms as reflux if that makes sense. I was given a month of omeprazole and it sorted me out. Occasionally get it and again I take the omeprazole and it straightens me out.

Interestingly my dog did some thing similar, was being sick most days, often was bile, and the vet gave him omeprazole and that sorted him out too (absolutely not comparing your DD to a pet, but an example again of how it could be reflux).

Worriedmumma92 · 27/12/2023 16:21

Yeah do you think it might be worth getting her some omeprazole if it continues ?

Keep an eye on this op. Mu daughter had a cold which turned to vomiting at the same time each evening. Went on for a week then suddenly took a downward turn and long story short it was sepsis from strep pneumonia. Obviously this is an extreme scenario but anytime I hear a story similar I warn parents because we had no idea

When you say that sorted you out, you were able to take the medication for a month and then stop taking it, and felt ok for some time? Ds has been prescribed omeprazole but I'd really prefer he wasn't taking it every day, forever.

PieonaBarm · 27/12/2023 16:59

@Yesididntdothat yes, I took it for a month then was able to stop. I sometimes take it intermittently if I get a bit of reflux which my GP is fine with (my Mum had oesophageal cancer which was caused by constant reflux so I'm perhaps over anxious about reflux)

Yesididntdothat · 27/12/2023 17:02

Thank you, that's very helpful. And I'm sorry to hear about your mum.

It's maybe worth a try if she can't stomach gaviscon. Though I don't know what the prescribing guidelines are for children.

PieonaBarm · 27/12/2023 17:12

@Yesididntdothat thank you. Was some years ago now but nevertheless it makes me think to tell people not to dismiss reflux like she did.

bettynutkins · 27/12/2023 17:23

We had this, was a bug.

jannier · 27/12/2023 17:26

Does she have milk at bedtime? Sometimes after a bug milk triggers sickness

MissHoollie · 27/12/2023 17:29

Avoid cows milk protein for a few weeks . See if helps
