Blood after a poo (gross I know)

ShaunaM · 08/09/2023 21:38

My daughter (just 12 last week) had bright red blood after she wiped this evening. I tired to call the GP but it was near 5pm and they were not keen to see her. They just said call back on Monday.

I have been googling all night and found this website. I have put sudercream on to see him that helps i couldn't seen anything hanging out so i am guessing its not hemorides.

Has she been constipated ? It could be an anal fissure, where the rectum tears .

ShaunaM · 08/09/2023 21:42

she has been yes in for the last week. i think it was anxiety about starting in a new school

Hi op wouldn't worry to much, she may have had a little constipation and tore her rectum slightly.

Hemorrhoids are not only in the outside but you could also have them on the inside. Shmee how she goes..

Is it still bleeding?? How much blood?

you can get fungal infection (basically athletes foot) at the top of your bum crack) that can bleed but its tiny amounts and stops quickly
she could have caught the area with a finger nail?

HRHTheDuchessOfBotox · 08/09/2023 21:44

straining too hard.

ShaunaM · 08/09/2023 22:01

No she is not bleeding at the moment it was twice after a poo. The tissue had about 5cmx5cm covered in mucus and blood. The blood is deffo coming from her anal passage not anywhere else. I guess it could be a fissure it did sting and hurt when I put the cream on

Extreme heat and dehydration along with anxiety causes constipation

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 08/09/2023 22:20

She passed mucus too? Did she / you tell the GP that?

Might be nothing, but might be a sign of IBS / IBD. I wouldn't worry too much right now, but I'd definitely want her to be checked over, and would ask them to please do a faecal calprotection test - she'd need to give a poo sample - to check for things like crohns or colitis.

Might well just be a little tear and nothing worry about at all, but if it is IBD then the sooner it gets investigated the better, it can be a bit tricky for girls to be taken seriously and get a diagnosis, so if you can get it in a Dr's mind for consideration at an early stage then I would do so. Best to rule it out early!

ShaunaM · 08/09/2023 22:31

Thank you @GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut yes it was very sticky blood on the tissue. she did show me she called when she got a shock there was blood. i will mention it to the GP. I said it today but they weren't interested

Constipated poo frequently has mucous on it. I suppose natures way of helping it out. I wouldn’t be concerned if it doesn’t happen when she’s not constipated.

ShaunaM · 09/09/2023 09:01

She’s had another poo this morning k wouldn’t say she is straining seems normal. She’s had again maybe 5cm of bright blood twice after a wipe mainly blood no poo. She’s got football training so I’m going to pop to the pharmacy and see if I can get something for her. She said she was very itchy there overnight.

How is she doing? My daughter has IBS she is also 12. She often had blood when she is constipated. She’s on stool softener now daily and the blood is very little. She still has days her poo is rock hard but otherwise okay. We use Preperation H gel on her bum after she has a poo, in the mornings getting dressed, after a shower and at night before bed. When it’s been bleeding it can get itchy like you mentioned and irritated. We encourage baths to leave it soak for a little while and keep it as clean as possible. I hope that helps

ShaunaM · 09/09/2023 22:28

Thank you we are in A&E since this afternoon. She had two massive amounts of bloody diarrhoea. There was so much blood it scared us. She also has really bad cramps

Oh no @ShaunaM hopefully it's not too much longer a wait to be seen? Or are you waiting for a proper bed on a ward? Wishing you and DD all the best, you both must be quite anxious, you're in the right place and hopefully can have your mind put to rest. Flowers

ShaunaM · 09/09/2023 22:52

Thank you we have had a CT and ultrasound scan. We are waiting on an ambulance to take up to a children's hospital for surgical review. She is currently asleep but feels terrible they have given her something for the pain. Its scary they have no idea what has caused it but they can just say there is a bleed somewhere in her tummy

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 09/09/2023 22:55

I'm so sorry it that sounds like she's quite poorly, but also glad you've not been fobbed off and sent home.

Everything crossed that it's something easily treated Flowers

pepino · 09/09/2023 23:32

Glad you're being seen to! I was going to suggest that it could be a type of IBD due to the mucus, but the blood isn't usually bright red. But it depends on where the blood is coming from... if it was a fissure then it would be bright red, but not much iyswim? And on the actual poo you'd see it on the surface, not mixed in.

I hope you get some answers soon. Poor thing! Anxiety can cause all sorts of digestive issues as the brain and gut are linked.

Panda8383 · 09/09/2023 23:48

Hope your daughter is ok, she’s in the best place x

Gothambutnotahamster · 10/09/2023 04:04

Hope your DD is ok @ShaunaM - have they got to the cause of the issue yet?

rainbowstardrops · 10/09/2023 05:43

Oh your poor daughter! At least it's being investigated and hopefully you'll get some answers - and some rest - soon!

ShaunaM · 10/09/2023 12:45

Thank you she’s in surgery at the moment we don’t really know much.

OP posts:
Songbird74 · 10/09/2023 13:35

Please let us know how she gets on, OP. I would also complain to your GP, as they didn’t seem to care. Hope she’s on the mend soon x

Gothambutnotahamster · 10/09/2023 17:09

Sending hugs to you & your DD.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 10/09/2023 21:14

Hi OP, I hope everything has gone OK, that DD is awake and that you're with her, and you've had some answers now.
Thinking of you both Flowers

pepino · 10/09/2023 21:15

I hope everything goes well for your daughter Flowers
