Spot on DD's Face

Hi. My DD has a spot on her cheek. it started off a small pimple but has now got quite large, for a while it looked like a bruise. it's been there for over 2 weeks now and she says it hurts. Should it be something to be concerned about, or is it just a spot 🤷‍♀️

Has she been trying to pop it? A spot can get inflamed and larger if you mess with it. If she hasn’t touched it and it’s grown, then I’d visit a pharmacist for advice on an OTC spot remedy.

Thewizardssleeve · 16/02/2023 18:13

thank you. she says not but she did have a bit of a guilty face! i'll take her to the pharmacy tomorrow.

If she hasn’t messed with it, she may be unlucky to have cystic acne. So that will mean a trip to GP to get prescription spot stuff. My DH had cystic acne and one of our DC inherited it..the GP stuff keep their skin clear which is a godsend because cystic acne can get very bad and cause scarring.

Hi again. the spot is still there! i went to the pharmacy over the weekend and the pharmacist said to keep and eye and if it gets bigger then off to the GP. It hasn't got bigger but not smaller either. She let me touch it and I could feel a lump under the skin, she still says it hurts 😞

Shall I go to the GP? Just mindful how pushed for resource they are and I don't want to waste their time.

Not been near lambs or sheep recently op? We are rural and orf is common in farming families, and it's lamb vacation in the adjoining farm. Last time my dad had it it was a single lump, however looked angry and purple. Most likely just a spot but thought I would mention it.

hello, revisiting this as the spot kind of went away and it now back with a vengeance. she says she isn't squeezing or picking as it hurts her. Pharmacist wasn't useful. Any ideas? i don't want to waste any GP's time. thanks

I would personally take to the gp, especially as it’s painful. Hope you get it sorted soon.

MrsMorton · 04/04/2023 20:09

Definitely take to GP. Is there anything inside her mouth or is it defo external? You can usually tell which side it's on (in or out!).

Errmmmmmmmmmmm · 04/04/2023 20:23

thanks, i am wondering if it is a boil? i'll take a look in her mouth in the morning.

davegrohll · 04/04/2023 20:26

I think it could be a boil

davegrohll · 04/04/2023 20:27

Suprised the pharmacist didn't recommend magnesium paste or something. Might need antibiotics though. Bless her, looks sore

Cityzen74 · 04/04/2023 20:31

My Mum had similar and it turned out to be a sebaceous cyst. It wasn’t serious and it went away but took ages. I would definitely go to the dr - you won’t be wasting their time. Hope it gets sorted and your daughter feels better soon 🌸

FictionalCharacter · 04/04/2023 20:50

Poor girl. Take her to the GP, she’s worth a few minutes of their time.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 04/04/2023 20:56

Go to the GP - don't leave it over the long weekend. If you fill in the online form and send that photo they may call you and tell you to pick up a prescription for an antibiotic. It looks like a boil and if they don't go and then get worse, antibiotics are indicated.

L3ThirtySeven · 04/04/2023 20:57

Take her to the GP. It looks nasty and infected.

monsteramunch · 04/04/2023 20:58

Not wasting the GPs time at all to get that seen too, I wouldn't leave it any longer. Poor little thing, hope they can sort it for her.

Errmmmmmmmmmmm · 04/04/2023 21:13

thanks, i'm going to call
first thing to try and get an appointment tomorrow.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 04/04/2023 21:15

monsteramunch · 05/04/2023 21:52

Oh phew OP well done. Poor little thing, I hope it clears up soon!

Errmmmmmmmmmmm · 05/04/2023 22:34

thank you.

Errmmmmmmmmmmm · 08/04/2023 17:43

So much better now after day 3 of meds!

Errmmmmmmmmmmm · 20/05/2023 17:43

Hi everyone

so the spot got diagnosed as an infected boil. DD took penicillin and it went down .

now it is a little pimple (how it begun) but with red around it.

not sure what to do as it isn't causing her any trouble, but has been there for an age. we all want it to go away! does she need more meds, she took her last dose about a month ago.

not sure what to do.
