DLA Mandatory Reconsideration 2023

Mumofboysteamginge · 11/02/2023 10:58

Hi, I’ve been following the DLA wait times thread since I applied for my 7 year old son in October. We had the decision yesterday and it was declined 😭 I was absolutely devastated.

We applied because my son was involved in a serious RTC (we were going on holiday with our friends, he wanted to travel in their car following us, a car came round a bend missed us but hit them head on) understandably he struggles with the fact he was the only one in the car and blames us for letting him in there). He was the only one awake and conscious in the vehicle, he has chronic flashbacks, normal everyday life things (sirens, bangs, travelling, weather conditions and so on are triggers) they send him into a state of survival and all his rational thinking is gone. Nights are horrendous for him, he lives like his life is in constant threat, he fights sleep and often gets dressed in the middle of the night so he’s ready should anything bad happen. Flashbacks are more prominent through the night.

school are aware of his issues. Now he’s under CAMHS school have been asked to stop any mental health interventions as this could interrupt the trauma therapy. hes happy at school because of the structure and routine, no real unpredictability etc.

anyway I’ve done this tread for anyone going through MR and hope we can all support each other through the process!

xxx

No and the amount of times I had to ring yesterday and still got told 3 different things . 1st one as decision made I was a nervous wreck and needing to know rates so rang general enquiries to be told it was still in a holding que and no decision made so I obviously rang back the MR bit stated what had happened and he said it’s with a dicision maker but couple of weeks for dicision but said I could contact in the next couple of days as there on the back end of April. I was curious and rang today to be told 25 weeks wait blah blah .. the script u can blaintantly tell there reading from . X

So do you believe it’s actually been assigned? Sometimes I wonder if they’re actually even seeing if it’s been assigned or just reading off a script. So exhausting and stressful waiting this long just to probably be rejected again

I feel that the guy I spoke to last yesterday who said it was with decision maker was the most genuine so the call I made today was just off a script she didn’t look at anything . It really depends who you speak to wich is crap x

Mummyof3safire · 10/09/2024 17:12

They said I shouldn’t of been told a decision was made that morning either and was going to listen to the call and flag it with the manager so he seemed really good x

Aurorastyles · 12/09/2024 17:29

Anyone from the end April heard back yet please?

Aurorastyles · 17/09/2024 10:52

Called today, we are the 3rd May and at 19 weeks now for an MR. I was advised that it still hasn’t been handed to a case manager yet. Has anyone else heard anything please?

MyAmberWasp · 25/09/2024 16:27

Has anyone had a phone call from a DM and still be turned down?

Redwineandcheeseplease01 · 26/09/2024 12:03

Hi, do you think the risk assessment my son’s school have written would count as additional evidence for my son’s DLA mandatory reconsideration? It details how he has impulsively left classrooms, climbed, needs 1:1 supervision and staff have to be trained in positive touch training as they are likely to have to restrain him at times to keep him safe?

Hiya , thanks for this thread , think it’s will come in handy for us waiting for MR decisions , aww bless your son it must of been so terrifying for him 😞…..my 12 year old suffers from vasculitis (HSP) he got refused DLA back in November, I wasn’t going to fight it but his condition is just getting so much worse he dosnt go a week now without flare ups (his blood vessels leak through his body attacking his organs causing rashes , swelling , bruises and lots of pain to the point he can’t even walk! …..anyway he’s under peaditrician , rheumatology , kidney specialist, vasculitis specialist and now been referred to a child psychologist but it’s affecting his mental health ….I am not giving up without a fight now! ….I applied for his MR jan 16th , spoke to a lady last week that said they are taking 5-6 weeks , although the letter i received says don’t contact until 11 weeks ….fingers crossed we get the help our boys deserve! Good luck x

Have you had a response yet?

TashaxJ · 10/06/2025 11:22

Currently awaiting MR was declined on 29/05 so I am now going through the MR route. My letter currently states 11 weeks tho is this incorrect ? Xx
