DLA Mandatory Reconsideration 2023

Hi, I’ve been following the DLA wait times thread since I applied for my 7 year old son in October. We had the decision yesterday and it was declined 😭 I was absolutely devastated.

We applied because my son was involved in a serious RTC (we were going on holiday with our friends, he wanted to travel in their car following us, a car came round a bend missed us but hit them head on) understandably he struggles with the fact he was the only one in the car and blames us for letting him in there). He was the only one awake and conscious in the vehicle, he has chronic flashbacks, normal everyday life things (sirens, bangs, travelling, weather conditions and so on are triggers) they send him into a state of survival and all his rational thinking is gone. Nights are horrendous for him, he lives like his life is in constant threat, he fights sleep and often gets dressed in the middle of the night so he’s ready should anything bad happen. Flashbacks are more prominent through the night.

school are aware of his issues. Now he’s under CAMHS school have been asked to stop any mental health interventions as this could interrupt the trauma therapy. hes happy at school because of the structure and routine, no real unpredictability etc.

anyway I’ve done this tread for anyone going through MR and hope we can all support each other through the process!

xxx

I have been following the thread as applied for MR after being turned down in Feb. hadn't heard anything for weeks and woke up to a DLA payment in my account. I'm still in shock I think.

Glad you got awarded. What date did you do your mr?

Mummytomarley11 · 05/06/2024 17:29

I called today.. I’m at 12 weeks on Thursday and they said my sons MR will be with DM very soon and to call back by the 27th if I haven’t heard anything

Nonamenoplacetogo · 05/06/2024 18:01

I need to check the paperwork but I think I was around week 14 for mr if that helps. I'll look later once home and update

jellycat12 · 05/06/2024 18:07

Are MR took 13 and half weeks in total if that helps

Girlmumm123 · 05/06/2024 21:05

I rang got told they can't tell me over the phone and wait for letter makes me think it's another decline

Beckylouise000 · 05/06/2024 23:54

@Girlmumm123 i believe someone on here previously was told the same thing but was awarded, I think it just depends on who you get through to on whether they want to tell you or not, don’t give up!

Sarahdestiny · 06/06/2024 14:33

Got my decision turned over from middle to high care from a MR on 13th May and still waiting on UC to update claim and decide if entitled to back pay absaloutly taking the p**s. Now they never reply and just taking the mick..
Also going through tribunal process with my other claim currently still sending every evidance and new evidance into dla and tribunal as so many appointments and much more has happened since fingers 🤞 dla change there mind so don't have to wait a year for a date for tribunal absloutly draining. Before you no it ..will be time to renew claims as only got awarded til 2025 ffs anyway Good luck everyone with there MRs & appeals hopefully we get some good outcomes

I rang this morning for a update and they said a decision was made yesterday and a letter is on its way but they wouldn’t tell me over the phone what the outcome was, said they couldn’t access it 🤦🏻‍♀️ just wondering if the decision was made in my favour would I receive the back payment in my account in the next few days or would it take longer? As he said the letter could take up to 2 weeks to get to me. Thanks in advance

If you ring back and ask to be put through to someone that can tell you the outcome they should do that.. What was your scan date?

Hi I did ask to be put through to someone who could tell me but he said they couldn’t access it and I have to just wait for the letter. He said hopefully I’m happy with the decision but if I’m not there’s information on the back of the letter that will tell me what I can do, so don’t understand 🥲 my mr scan date was 8th March

Nonamenoplacetogo · 09/06/2024 09:31

I have checked the dates, my MR request was end of Feb, and award letter is dated beginning of June, so it was almost 15 weeks.

Beckylouise000 · 10/06/2024 09:25

Week 13 hoping to hear something soon, people that got awarded after the mr process did you receive the money in your account first or the letter?

Hiya just wondering if you have received the letter yet? They told me the same and I’m thinking it’s also a decline. Don’t understand why they won’t tell us over the phone now 🤦🏻‍♀️

So I rang up again and asked to be put through to a case manager as I just wanted to know the decision and the letter could take ages. The case manager said my daughter has been awarded hrc and hrm until 2031. The back payment should be in my account by Wednesday. So happy it’s done and I really hope all your little ones get what they deserve as this has been so stressful xx

Hi, if this is too personal then I completely understand but how old is your daughter? My son already has hrc so I am just challenging the mobility side of things but he is 4 in a couple of weeks so as soon as I started this process I was expecting it to be declined again. His scan date was the 14th of march so we aren’t far behind you, just looking for a glimmer of hope as the waiting is driving me mad! To top it off my car has just broken so the mobility couldn’t come at a better time due to having to get him to his SEN school in September x
