DLA Mandatory Reconsideration 2023

Hi, I’ve been following the DLA wait times thread since I applied for my 7 year old son in October. We had the decision yesterday and it was declined 😭 I was absolutely devastated.

We applied because my son was involved in a serious RTC (we were going on holiday with our friends, he wanted to travel in their car following us, a car came round a bend missed us but hit them head on) understandably he struggles with the fact he was the only one in the car and blames us for letting him in there). He was the only one awake and conscious in the vehicle, he has chronic flashbacks, normal everyday life things (sirens, bangs, travelling, weather conditions and so on are triggers) they send him into a state of survival and all his rational thinking is gone. Nights are horrendous for him, he lives like his life is in constant threat, he fights sleep and often gets dressed in the middle of the night so he’s ready should anything bad happen. Flashbacks are more prominent through the night.

school are aware of his issues. Now he’s under CAMHS school have been asked to stop any mental health interventions as this could interrupt the trauma therapy. hes happy at school because of the structure and routine, no real unpredictability etc.

anyway I’ve done this tread for anyone going through MR and hope we can all support each other through the process!

xxx

For those that are awaiting the appeal tribunal, how long has it been? My DLA claim was unsuccessful in October and know it can take months and months to get a date!

jellycat12 · 11/04/2024 11:38

So I rang for an update on the MR was told the turn around is 9 weeks, she then had a look and said you should have a decision by the 20th and if you haven't had a letter ring back after the 20th as it may be on our system and letter still in the post she did say there was currently no decision.

Now it’s been 9 weeks they can actually send them a email for it to be looked at quicker and they do do this they did it twice for me.

Beckylouise000 · 13/04/2024 08:09

Hi anyone that has put in for an mr did you receive a letter back from them stating when they received it and scanned it in on there side? I sent everything off 11th march and still haven’t heard back yet thanks.

Sarahdestiny · 13/04/2024 11:35

@Beckylouise000 I recieved 1 letter for 1 MR but nothing for the 2nd MR so they are not consistent your better off ringing to confirm it x

Beckylouise000 · 17/04/2024 10:39

Has anyone had any positive outcomes recently? Week 5 of waiting for mr now first claim was 18 weeks wait before decline

jellycat12 · 17/04/2024 11:07

@Beckylouise000 are mr was 9 weeks on Monday still haven't heard anything so not feeling hopeful at all and original rejection was 21 weeks from scan date. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you

Beckylouise000 · 17/04/2024 13:35

@jellycat12 have you rang up at all? Seems to be so all over the place with how long things are taking! I’m not very hopeful as we’re still going down the route of paediatrician appointments for diagnosis so only have gp and school to help back so far!

Sarahdestiny · 17/04/2024 13:49

Week 9 been told will hear back In June still in a holding que n taking 11 to 15 weeks 😳 hope it doesn't

Beckylouise000 · 17/04/2024 13:51

@Sarahdestiny crazy how in the space of 6 days it’s gone from 9 week turn around to 15!!

Sarahdestiny · 17/04/2024 13:55

@Beckylouise000 I no it is getting ridiculous especially when we all had to wait originally up to 15 to 20 weeks then now another 15 takes the mick x

jellycat12 · 17/04/2024 14:15

I rang last week and was told I should have a decision by the 20th of April, when I first put in for MR was told 7 weeks then had a text at week two saying I'd have a decision in 4 weeks then got a letter a week later saying 11 weeks and last week I got a letter apologising for it taking so long but could be 15 weeks 🤦🏼‍♀️ it's a nightmare I don't think anyone there genuinely knows how long it's going to be

I got a decision in week 9 x also I want to add that they don’t really read through all the claim even for mr, I sent in all info and the reasons to not give it wasn’t really owt to do with my claim, I out a complaint in and got a call back that same day with good news and they apologised for confusion. It was obvious they didn’t read it and it was rushed x

jellycat12 · 18/04/2024 10:52

@Homesweethome93 yeah she said it's taking 9 weeks and I went it's 9 weeks Monday and she then said you should have a decision by the 20th but I've not heard anything I sent in his full asd/adhd report therapist letter letters from Ent chams family support worker and personal statements but don't feel like there look at all of it 😞

82cem · 18/04/2024 14:24

Apologies if this isn't the right place for this question, my MR was refused again telling me she needs no extra support and is like any other her age, so it is going to tribunal but since then my daughter is needing much more support with school refusal, food refusal, meltdowns, emotional support, plus more, she has been referred to the emotional health team , do I need to tell dwp this or do I put it all in my reply to the dwp bundle for the tribunal to read, I don't want to jeopardise the tribunal in anyway.
Many thanks.

Sarahdestiny · 18/04/2024 14:36

I rang today to add a new diagnosis on to 1 of the MRs n they didn't tell me anything just asked if I can send reports in I said yes but won't get them for 2 weeks and now because am on week 9 they transfer you over to the decision maker that are going to be dealing with it for some reason. Both times now & they don't like to tell you anything sound very arsed to lol

Beckylouise000 · 20/04/2024 14:44

@jellycat12 have you heard any news at all with it being the 20th now?

jellycat12 · 20/04/2024 17:03

@Beckylouise000 nope not heard anything, will probably ring them next week have a feeling it's a rejection again

Sarahdestiny · 22/04/2024 10:24

Fingers crossed we get answers this week either way 🙏

jellycat12 · 22/04/2024 11:26

@Sarahdestiny fingers crossed for you

user1497874196 · 22/04/2024 11:42

I did an MR for my son on 1st march - sent his cahms report and Early help report. I was told when i did it it would take about 7 weeks which took us up until 19th April. I spoke to them Friday which was 19th they said its taking about 8 weeks so i should hear by the end of this week so 26th April but then i received a letter Saturday 20th saying it can take up to 15 weeks this was dated 11th april 🤔. I have a feeling its going to be another rejection but i dont get why the time frames change so much. Its all so stressful xx

Sarahdestiny · 22/04/2024 11:45

@jellycat12 1 of mine are now being looked at the other 1 they said ring back in 3 to 4 weeks even tho it's the same scan date lol x

Beckylouise000 · 22/04/2024 12:44

@Sarahdestiny how long have you been waiting xx

Sarahdestiny · 22/04/2024 12:49

jellycat12 · 22/04/2024 13:19
