DLA Mandatory Reconsideration 2023

Hi, I’ve been following the DLA wait times thread since I applied for my 7 year old son in October. We had the decision yesterday and it was declined 😭 I was absolutely devastated.

We applied because my son was involved in a serious RTC (we were going on holiday with our friends, he wanted to travel in their car following us, a car came round a bend missed us but hit them head on) understandably he struggles with the fact he was the only one in the car and blames us for letting him in there). He was the only one awake and conscious in the vehicle, he has chronic flashbacks, normal everyday life things (sirens, bangs, travelling, weather conditions and so on are triggers) they send him into a state of survival and all his rational thinking is gone. Nights are horrendous for him, he lives like his life is in constant threat, he fights sleep and often gets dressed in the middle of the night so he’s ready should anything bad happen. Flashbacks are more prominent through the night.

school are aware of his issues. Now he’s under CAMHS school have been asked to stop any mental health interventions as this could interrupt the trauma therapy. hes happy at school because of the structure and routine, no real unpredictability etc.

anyway I’ve done this tread for anyone going through MR and hope we can all support each other through the process!

xxx

@Madmummy2016 sorry for all the questions, I’m just waiting in what feels like a lifetime, but what was your original date for MR?

Sorry totally read that wrong MR was done on 11th December!

Lou84lou · 09/03/2024 16:30

@Madmummy2016 can I asked what evidence you sent? I had nothing to send the first time but for MR I sent the referral latter from the social worker, the acceptance letter to say she is now on the pathway for assessment, a personal letter from the head of year in school detailing how she finds my daughter, her difficulties in school and the things they have in place for her, a time line of how she wakes during the night, and a detailed note from myself about diet, sleeping, routine etc. do you think this is enough to send?

well done on your outcome by the way ❤️

When I first applied, I had no evidence. Luckily whilst we was waiting my child had a letter saying she's on the waiting list for ADOS assesment as in that time the first part of assesment was done, then we had a hearing test done finding glue ear, and we had a copy of the school refferal to speech and language stating her needs there so I added that. Hope this helps, sounds like you have similar evidence to add! Good luck! And thank you!

Lou84lou · 12/03/2024 17:17

I don’t know if this will help anyone but I’m in Northern Ireland, waiting on MR decision, asked for and registered for MR on 3rd January, still hasn’t even been picked up by a DM yet

Lulakate84 · 13/03/2024 13:11

How long are they taking currently? An was anyone declined on original application an was successful on MR? Wait is killing me weeks 7 Friday x

Homesweethome93 · 13/03/2024 13:37

I’ve called them this morning, I’m on week six said to call back in a few weeks 😒

Lulakate84 · 13/03/2024 13:40

It's crap I have had no letters, I only found it was a decline from calling. I put in for MR over the phone an then sent extra info 2nd week of Feb. I called to make sure they had received them but nothing from them

Lou84lou · 13/03/2024 16:00

@Lulakate84 aparently in Northern Ireland MRs are taking up to 15 weeks

Lou84lou · 13/03/2024 16:12

Such a random question, just curious…. See anyone that was awarded DLA, has their payments only went in on a Tuesday, or has anyone’s backdated money gone in on a different day?

Ll333 · 13/03/2024 16:15

@Lou84lou I had my back payment on a different day it was a Wednesday.

Lou84lou · 13/03/2024 17:13

I think it’s all a joke, and so very badly organised

Lou84lou · 15/03/2024 14:57

My claim was picked up by a decision maker this morning. Does this mean it’s another few weeks before they even make a decision or is it fast now?

I’d call back Monday /Tuesday more than likely have a decision, I got told a few weeks for mine when it was with the DM but a decision was made same day x

Hi - any one having trouble with universal credit back pay - I notified them 2nd February, they requested i filled in a change of payment section on the 8th February - Ive been awarded the higher rate for disability going forward but im still waiting on the back pay back to the 4th October, keep being told its with the decision maker - I was told it shouldn't be more than 2 weeks ? I spoke to Contact (benefits advice charity) and they gave me a letter to send them if they refuse to give the full back pay as by law they should.

hello id put in a complaint to dwp, they get on with it pretty quickly then, I just kept adding stuff to my journal all the time asking them, if you don’t pester them you don’t get I’m afraid, or either you do but takes ages. Xx

Ll333 · 04/04/2024 10:29

Called yesterday they said 8 weeks from scan date

jellycat12 · 04/04/2024 12:26

I've received a letter today dates the 24th of March apologising that I haven't had a decision on the MR and saying it could take up to 15 weeks and not to contact them were week 8 on Tuesday 😅

Honestly I think they just say what ever to get you off the phone 😅

Homesweethome93 · 05/04/2024 11:10

Hi I got a decision today (9 weeks) my sons rewards had changed from hrc and lrm to hrc and hrm but they’ve changed the years before he was awarded it until 2030 and they’ve taken it down to 2025. I will be taking this to tribunal. Ridiculous. The forms are awful to fill in and the waiting is absolutely nerve wracking.

Homesweethome93 · 05/04/2024 19:05

Turns out I can’t do anything about the timing period of the award so that sucks tbh. I feel like someone who has no idea has done this, they haven’t even backdated it properly.
