Dent in 6 month olds head?

sasscass · 15/01/2023 20:46

My baby fell forwards from sitting earlier and banged her head on a veneer panel at the bottom of the bed. She hit it where her soft spot is, but on the left side. She cried for about 5 seconds and she had a nap, she woke up within 20 minutes for her food. Her skin was red where she hit it, it was red for about 30 minutes but gradually faded. She drank all of it (11 ounces!!!) and she seemed normal as can be. She played a bit and we both lay in bed together and slept another 45 minutes. She has had another feed and she’s been playing since. Nothing seems different about her.

there’s no bruising or lump. I am probably obsessing over it and there’s nothing there . I can’t see anything but I can feel her head dip a bit on the side where she hit it and it’s not on the other side. But I’m thinking maybe it’s just the shape of her head? I would attach a picture but there’s no point because there’s not a visible indentation at all

Any bumps on the head at that age need to be seen to be a professional. It probably nothing but you have to take her to your nearest children's A&E or call 111 at least x

sasscass · 15/01/2023 20:48

I forgot to add, I touch where she hit it and she has no reaction whatsoever. If there was a dent I’m sure there would be an injury and it would hurt her?

Shoemadlady · 15/01/2023 20:51

Yes it's probably nothing but it really needs to be checked. Their skulls are so soft at that age but there can be underlying damage underneath.
Better to be safe than sorry isn't it surely? Hope little one is ok xx

sasscass · 15/01/2023 20:55

@Shoemadlady how will the doctors at A&E know there was underlying damage though unless they referred her for some scans or tests?

something similar happened before, not as drastic but I took her in when she bumped her head after rolling over and they just felt her head and let us go. We were waiting about 5 hours with everyone coughing around us only for them to basically dismiss it. I’ll take her in tomorrow. There’s no way of me getting up there tonight and she’s asleep for the night anyway I wouldn’t want to disturb her x

Any responsible person is going to advise you to have such a young baby looked at for a bang on the head.

sasscass · 15/01/2023 21:02

@kwiss okay? I never said they wouldn’t. I don’t understand your point

UnaVaca · 15/01/2023 21:08

Why are you messing around on mumsnet? Go and get the baby seen.

sasscass · 15/01/2023 21:09

@UnaVaca oh dead. If only you could read my other comments.

You seem reluctant to seek proper medical advice.

UnaVaca · 15/01/2023 21:12

I don’t get why you posted. You’ve clearly made up your mind that nothing is wrong. But everyone on here will tell you that it’s better to be safe than sorry.

sasscass · 15/01/2023 21:13

@kwiss you clearly didn’t read my comment.

i was just asking what they’d do in A&E to determine whether or not there’s underlying damage since last time we went they didn’t do jack!!!

I've been to A&E twice with headbumps when mine was under 1. I'd never hesitate to go.

I don't understand why you're even questioning this. You should already be there. Get off your phone and go.

sasscass · 15/01/2023 21:14

@whatsdiswhatsdat Jesus Christ . Have you not read my replies? I can’t go tonight. I will go tomorrow

sasscass · 15/01/2023 21:15

@whatsdiswhatsdat so, other mothers post that their 5 month olds have their heads bumped and they get replies like “babies bump their heads all the time, if they’re acting fine don’t worry, just wait and see if there’s any behaviour changes over the next 24 hours” or “go and get your baby seen hun” but I get “why you messing around on mumsnet for” 🥴 if you can’t be supportive then don’t comment please

I didn’t get her checked out earlier because she seems fine. And online it says to look out for certain signs and if they seem fine then to wait it out for signs of concussion. Which I have done so far and she seems perfectly fine. I said I’d take her up tomorrow.

So what happened last time? You sat in the waiting room for hours until finally someone said "we're not going to look at your baby, to home"

Hmm

Or did they actually check her over, ask you questions, and make sure she's ok?

They're not going to send every infant with a head bump for a scan OP ffs.

Get her to A&E to get checked over.

Right. But what's the point of posting then?

It might be too late by tomorrow.

atteatimeeverybodyagrees · 15/01/2023 21:17

No one here can tell you your baby is fine

whatsdiswhatsdat · 15/01/2023 21:17

Your baby has a dent near her soft spot.

That's all I need to say in answer to your post.

Why are you posting on MN if you're not concerned?

M340 · 15/01/2023 21:17

Why have you bothered posting?
If you had no intention of taking her tonight because you 'can't' then you've already made up your mind. I guess you were just looking for validation which you clearly haven't got here and it's rubbed you up the wrong way.

You absolutely do need to get her checked for what it's worth, especially at her age. But you've already said you 'can't' take her. So don't bother.

But you're really silly not to take her. What happens if you had an emergency. You should really do the right thing by your child here and get her checked out due to her age.

I have read all your replies. I don't know what they will do because I'm not a medical professional, which is who you should be speaking to.

No responsible person is going to come on here and tell you it's ok to not seek medical advice for a head injury in such a young baby. I feel like that is what you are looking for, validation for the irresponsible choice you are making. Your replies are getting unpleasant because people aren't doing that.

whatsdiswhatsdat · 15/01/2023 21:18

You can't go tonight?

I literally don't know what that means.

Go. To. A&E.

If she has an actual dent in her skull she could take a bleed to the brain or god knows what. I cannot for the life of me fathom why you're not going.

sasscass · 15/01/2023 21:19

@whatsdiswhatsdat I can’t confirm whether she does or not. I can’t tell. Seems like the normal contour to her skull, I was concerned of course but I’m overthinking .

that’s why I said I’ll take her to A&E tomorrow.

and what they did in A&E was examine her head and asked me how it happened. Then told me these things happen and sent me on my way.

@kwiss i said I’d take her in?! How is that irresponsible?

how am I being unpleasant? People aren’t wording things very nice are they
