DD3 vomiting for 3 weeks

Has anyone else’s toddler/child had this awful sick bug going around? It’s been 3 weeks 3yo has been vomiting now and I’ve just had a phone call back from drs ‘it’s just a viral infection, it will soon pass’
I’m concerned how long it’s lasting, in 21 days she’s had barely anything to eat (if she does eat it comes back up anyway), she looks so skinny and has practically been lifeless on the sofa either sleeping, vomiting or complaining that her tummy, legs and head hurt😞
Where do I go from here? Is A&E necessary? It’s extremely long wait times where I am but I’m not getting anywhere with the GP. Thank you!

Trust your gut. Don’t bother with 111, take her to a&e.
I took dd2 a couple of months ago after 6 days of vomiting/ unable to keep even spoonfuls of calpol down. She was seen and given anti sickness meds within an hour.
Honestly, even if it does turn out to be reflux, you would rather know you have done everything you can to be sure rather than palmed off by drs.

Hope the wait wasn’t / isn’t too long OP and you get the answer you need x

Just got home. They couldn’t find any blood results, done the initial assessment temp/reflexes/looked into ears, eyes and throat, said everything looks/seems normal. Explained background and said what has been going and he said to wait until we get called through to tell the doc. Finally got called through this morning all to be told her obs are all okay, we should be getting the blood results over the phone from Dr today and to continue with omeprazole and give them a chance. The rash had almost disappeared by time we got called through and they just said kids get rashes for all kinds of things and it’s never usually serious! Thank you all up until now! Going to get on the phone to the Drs again and see if these blood results are normal!

Oh also wasn’t worried about dehydration as she’s only going sick once in the morning (which made them think my gp dr is right saying it’s reflux) and taking fluids/dioralyte

OP, that’s good news! If there were any red flags they would act on them. Persist with doc today and make sure they call you back - mention you had to take her to A&E as you were so worried. My DC have had to both be under neurology due to headaches but the paeds team know what to look out for (usually headaches that start in morning associated with vomiting and it’s always a rapid decline). Your poor baby has really been through the mill! Hope she has a better day today 💐

NotaCoolMum · 10/08/2022 11:51

Hopefully you’ll get the results today!! 🌻

TheChildIsSickAgain · 10/08/2022 16:54

Well it’s good news🙌🏻 All blood test results are normal! She’s having a follow up appointment next Wednesday but can obviously ring in the meantime if she gets worse again. Praying she just gets better and better from here!

That's good OP! Is she feeling a bit better today?

That's good OP! Is she feeling a bit better today?

She’s actually slept most the day but we were up hospital all night and if I had the chance I would of slept all day too!! She’s managed food and drink and has perked up this evening coming to play out in the garden so onwards and upwards🤞🏻

That’s wonderful OP! Glad she’s ok - sometimes bugs can literally wipe out a child. It didn’t help with lockdown and the lack of common bugs as everyone’s immune systems went down. Hoping she’s on the mend

WestIsWest · 10/08/2022 18:16

Great news OP. Have they given her Omeprazole suspension or dissolvable tablets? The suspension is much better for kids to take.

BornBlonde · 11/08/2022 00:41

Good update! Hopefully she will have a strong immune system after that

juniorcakeoff · 11/08/2022 15:12

If she continues to be sick despite the reflux meds, please take her straight back to the GP and ask for MRI. My DC's brain tumour started with a tummy bug (d and v), then loss of appetite, tummy pain, nausea, feeling weak and tired. They only got a headache about 2 months in, and was only occasionally physically sick. GP did blood tests all clear, stool sample all clear, prescribed reflux meds didn't work. Consultant later said reflux meds not working should have been a red flag to the GP. In between all this DC continued to attend school, play sport, and intermittently gave us false hope my seeming to be a lot better!

RosiePosie27 · 11/08/2022 20:24

@juniorcakeoff that is so awful! I hope your DC is ok now. It’s awful when these things are misdiagnosed, especially in children

juniorcakeoff · 11/08/2022 21:31

Thanks RosiePosie27 DC is ok, to be fair I think most children have the classic signs of very painful headache and vomiting most days, and sometimes loss of balance or eyesight stuff, so GP must've been confused! I knew in my heart though, just kept trying to constantly rationalise myself out of it ☹️

RosiePosie27 · 17/08/2022 12:39

@TheChildIsSickAgain hope your LO is feeling much better x
