DD3 vomiting for 3 weeks

Has anyone else’s toddler/child had this awful sick bug going around? It’s been 3 weeks 3yo has been vomiting now and I’ve just had a phone call back from drs ‘it’s just a viral infection, it will soon pass’
I’m concerned how long it’s lasting, in 21 days she’s had barely anything to eat (if she does eat it comes back up anyway), she looks so skinny and has practically been lifeless on the sofa either sleeping, vomiting or complaining that her tummy, legs and head hurt😞
Where do I go from here? Is A&E necessary? It’s extremely long wait times where I am but I’m not getting anywhere with the GP. Thank you!

Im sure you've already heard this, but what they do when my DD ends up in hospital is mix 50% diarolyte with 50% apple juice and syringe 5-10ml to her at 5-10minute intervals.

When she's bad I sometimes have to end up doing this for a week. It's a nightmare, but the little amounts stay down long enough and it all adds up over a day.

The symptoms my friends DD had were vomiting for weeks (more often than not in the morning), very lethargic, and things that you'd generally relate to dehydration from the endless vomiting. They went to a&e a couple of times and saw the gp too. They were told virus by everyone. All tests came back normal. In desperation they saw a private gp who did different tests. I really really hope it's not this for you but the main symptom was weeks of vomiting.

WithOneLook · 08/08/2022 20:49

I'd definitely be pushing for more tests and àssessment as there are some concerning symptoms which are ongoing. In terms of brain tumor it's unlikely but not impossible. Not suggesting it's necessary for this illness but I'd recommend looking at Sophies Legacy who are raising awareness of symptoms of childhood cancer symptoms in general.

Ah, well that’s slightly unnerving.
I'm going to watch her like a hawk until Wednesday when we get the blood results, absolutely any change and hospital it is. I hope no one feels I’m being neglectful as such but today she has had a pretty good day and really don’t think the drs in A&E would do anything if I were to take her up tonight. I just pray she continues to improve from here and doesn’t go backwards again.

Hi all! Still ongoing, she’s been sick every morning just after she wakes up, but no more for the rest of the day; just complains of headache, tummy ache or her legs hurting, I’ve been having to carry her up/down the stairs😞 DR should be phoning any minute with a time to go in to take bloods, I’m wondering if after he will actually send us up to hospital anyway as she just isn’t right at all, wants to sleep constantly and still not eating because of her tummy hurting! Will update when we’ve been seen x

My daughters condition started as you have desctibed. We had a significant number of mis diagnosis and many many Gp appointments .
I eventually saw a GP that belived it was tummy migraine which had gone on to trigger cyclical vomiting. Then refared to peads at local hospital and later on to specialist pain clinics.
We are further along now and although not tummy migraine she has a different type of migraine and the secondary condition of cyclical vomiting.

I don’t think you’re being neglectful at all. I agree you’d probably have a wasted journey tonight if you went to A&E and no doubt would be there all bloody night! That’s not going to help your DD at all. Could you afford to see someone privately? I’d be considering that if I could afford it. Consultant appointment are usually between £200-300 but there maybe be extra for tests, although they often can refer back into the NHS for testing.

Shoemadlady · 08/08/2022 23:41

Can I add, you know your DD better than anyone. The GO may be right that it's only reflux but you know she's not right so I'd take her to the Children's A&E anyway. You know what normal and not normal for her x

ShrewIcecream · 08/08/2022 23:43

I'm sorry you and your dd are going through this! I honestly wouldn't have thought this is reflux. Is there another gp at the practice that you can see?
Failing that, do you have a children's hospital nearby with an A&E department?

TheChildIsSickAgain · 09/08/2022 10:57

I’ve received a text this morning to expect a call at 4:25pm this evening with the blood results, am I overthinking the speed of these results and it’s just because they were put through as urgent and dr is off from Thursday they’ve got the results nice and quick? Or is it because they’ve found something!? I’m TRYING not to panic and failing!

OP posts:
TheChildIsSickAgain · 09/08/2022 10:59

Also we don’t have a childrens hospital/A&E, we live quite rural and the only hospital is 40 minutes away, where people are waiting for up to 20 hours to be seen😞

OP posts:
octoberfarm · 09/08/2022 12:12

They probably just flagged it as urgent and got it through quickly. I've had that happen to me before, and I panicked as well! Thinking of you both and hoping the results are all looking good when you get them Flowers

PeanutButterFalcon · 09/08/2022 13:50

@TheChildIsSickAgain having a phone call also means if the bloods come back normal you can create an action plan with the GP on what to do next. Have some ideas on what you would like to happen ready to ask.

RosiePosie27 · 09/08/2022 13:56

My DD had a horrendous bug that lasted about 2 weeks last year. She had awful headaches, general pains and a couple episodes of vomiting. I think though, based on the fact that she is vomiting in the morning and still has headaches, that she will be referred soonish to the paeds team at your local hospital. I’m surprised he thinks it’s reflux! Mind you, the GP thought my DD’s issues were due to reflux too - despite only being sick twice. Thinking of you and hoping all goes ok!

RosiePosie27 · 09/08/2022 14:03

Also - for what it’s worth - I had 2 ED visits with my DD due to the constant headaches and pains (she was sooo poorly). I eventually called the childrens ward and spoke to a nurse who told me to take her to ED (this was the second visit). Again, told kids have headaches and she was an unlucky one to get them so often.

for me, the red flag would be vomiting every morning. IMO, change your GP as soon as you have the bloods results!!

Turquoisa80 · 05/08/2022 13:03

She might have reflux and be sensitive to certain foods, she might have a gut infection like hpylori.. She needs a stool sample to establish.. She might be celiac, push for a blood test. It can be anything.. Please see the doctor

Sorry I’ve just seen your message and it reminded me that my DDs symptoms were similars to OPs and my daughter was celiac! So yes stomach issues can cause sooo many symptoms!!

RosiePosie27 · 09/08/2022 17:34

OP, I hope the call with the GP was positive and nothing to worry about 💐

RubyandPearl · 09/08/2022 17:39

Any news OP? Am thinking of you x

TheChildIsSickAgain · 09/08/2022 19:37

Well I never received the phone call!! I was ringing the reception on a different phone so I didn’t miss them ringing me but it just continued to ring until they shut at 5😩
I want to say no news is good news though🤞🏻 She managed a few hours at the beach today which was lovely, but only wanted to sit down on the sand and make sand castles and still as pale as ever. Been complaining of sore legs and tummy hurting/feeling sick since being home. (Sorry, im keeping this as my little diary now so I’ve got everything in one place for future should I need it!)

Poor little thing! My DS had numerous blood tests when he was small as they thought he had leukaemia (several times over several years!). His GP would always contact me if this result came back to him (otherwise we would be in hospital when we got the results). If it was something very, very urgent I am inclined to say another doc would’ve phoned you with the results and you would find that things would be rushed.

could you go to the GP surgery tomorrow and ask for them to speak with you since you cannot speak with them over the phone?

QuebecBagnet · 09/08/2022 20:04

Also sounds like my dd before her coeliac diagnosis.

Ditto. My DD had a really awful vomiting bug and the headaches and pains lasted ages then turned into heartburn. She was tired, bug tummy and would cry every night and say “do you want to hear about my pains”. GP said it was in her head. After a year of heartburn I insisted on blood test and she is coeliac. Gluten can cause so many issues and people aren’t aware of it.

ThickCutSteakChips · 09/08/2022 20:15

I really hope that you get some answers soon OP.

TheChildIsSickAgain · 09/08/2022 21:17

She’s developed a rash around her mouth before going to bed- I can’t add an image unless it’s her whole face as zoomed in is too much MB to upload! She’s sound asleep I don’t know if I’d be unreasonable scooping her up to sit in A&E for infinite hours, this alone I wouldn’t give it a second thought but what on earth is going on with my poor baby😩

Put a clear glass on it - does in Blanche? If not go straight to A&E. it looks like an allergy rash though - is it bumpy or smooth?
