DD3 vomiting for 3 weeks

Has anyone else’s toddler/child had this awful sick bug going around? It’s been 3 weeks 3yo has been vomiting now and I’ve just had a phone call back from drs ‘it’s just a viral infection, it will soon pass’
I’m concerned how long it’s lasting, in 21 days she’s had barely anything to eat (if she does eat it comes back up anyway), she looks so skinny and has practically been lifeless on the sofa either sleeping, vomiting or complaining that her tummy, legs and head hurt😞
Where do I go from here? Is A&E necessary? It’s extremely long wait times where I am but I’m not getting anywhere with the GP. Thank you!

Put a clear glass on it - does in Blanche? If not go straight to A&E. it looks like an allergy rash though - is it bumpy or smooth?

It’s bumpy- like prickly heat rash is what I would assume normally if she wasn’t already poorly. She hasn’t got a temp though, fades when glass is pressed on it, and I keep disturbing her with checking her back/belly/legs but they’re clear

Due to the risk of dehydration, you may wish to seek a second opinion fron a doctor at a walk in clinic as it is always best to be safe than sorry with small children.

RosiePosie27 · 09/08/2022 21:33

I agree - take her in to A&E and give them full background of what’s happened. They may be able to see her blood results too and advise.

I hope the poor dear feels better soon x

RosiePosie27 · 09/08/2022 21:34

If you were at the beach the sand may have irritated her face? My son used to get petechia all the time and they do not fade. Any petechial rash on a child needs urgent attention but if it’s bumpy and fades then that’s more along the lines of skin irritation / allergy. I would suggest just getting her checked out for your own peace of mind x

Unfortunately we literally only have 1 hospital with an A&E that has horrendous waiting times. Apart from vomiting this morning, she’s had a good amount to drink today and kept it down along with dioralyte in it. I just have a horrible niggling in the back of my head

Honestly OP, I'd take her to A&E. My first thought when I read your post was meningitis and the emergence of a rash is ringing alarm bells.

The morning vomit is classic reflux but the other symptoms don't fit. Omeprazol was worth a try but I think this is becoming an A&E situation.

gab254 · 09/08/2022 21:38

It sounds like you've had a really difficult time with your daughter.
Always follow your gut, you know her best and sounds like you're doing a great job at pursuing this.

My DD has had some worrying things going on with her lately and the GPs aren't great at listening or taking things seriously in my experience. We have a consultant appointment soon so hopefully we'll get some answers but I share your frustration and worry.

Keep taking on here, it will help. I've been keeping a diary of my DDs symptoms, can you do that too perhaps?

HSKAT · 09/08/2022 21:39

I just have a horrible niggling in the back of my head

Trust your gut.
She is not well and hasn't been for weeks, get her seen.

Shoemadlady · 09/08/2022 21:40

She's been poorly for 3 weeks and has now developed a rash which you can't identify.
I'm at a loss as to why you're still posting on here asking for advice when none of us are drs instead of taking her to A&E to see a professional. You keep saying something bad is niggling you yet you've still not taken her. I just don't understand sorry

3luckystars · 09/08/2022 21:41

Reflux would not give her sore legs or a rash. You need to get her to a hospital now. If the one near you is no good then go further away. She needs to be seen by a doctor. All the best.

RosiePosie27 · 09/08/2022 21:42

OP, the ED will prioritise children if they are very unwell (I work in an ED setting). Wrap her up warm, take a coffee in a travel mug and a book and take her in. Looking at the rash, I highly doubt it is meningitis as if it’s bumpy and disappears then it’s more allergy / skin irritation. But I think you have been patient long enough and you are the advocate for your daughter. Take her in and just say she is really unwell with her symptoms that have lasted much longer than usual and could she be dehydrated etc

WestIsWest · 09/08/2022 21:43

In my area if I rung 111 I suspect they’d make an appointment for me to see an out of hours GP at a clinic next to A&E. At least then you wouldn’t be waiting for hours. If the GP was worried locally they’d send us to the Children’s ward not via A&E. Might be worth a try?

QuebecBagnet · 09/08/2022 21:45

If she does have coeliac disease she will be anemic which will explain the exhaustion and being pale. Also likely to have associated vit d deficiency (her gut won’t be absorbing) and that would explain random ache and pains. You can also get a rash with coeliac.

but yes if you have a bad feeling take her to hospital.

imshapedlikeatoenail · 09/08/2022 21:47

That niggling is mothers instinct. Trust it.
I hope she’s on the mend soon.

Sodie · 09/08/2022 21:54

Go with your instinct. Honestly my daughter was unwell last year with covid. It took weeks of me taking her to gp, a&e, pacu. Long story short, she spent weeks in and out of our local children's ward (also 40 mins away). Nobody took us serious until she was ventilated and sent to intensive care. She had a brain infection. She lost the ability to walk, didn't eat for 3 months.

This to be honest. OP, a night hanging around in A&E is nothing compared to your daughter’s health. She has been unwell for weeks and rather than push for answers you’ve been repeatedly posting on here looking for justification not to take her to A&E. Please just take her, she probably feels awful at this point.

N4ish · 09/08/2022 22:10

You really should take her to A&E tonight, this has been going on for far too long. There probably will be a long wait but a very sick child will be prioritised and you’ll be seen eventually.

Hm2020 · 09/08/2022 22:16

Wow op this sounds quite serious my ds has had reflux all his life and he is 8 but never this severe with the vomiting I hope you get some answers and she carry’s on improving.

allboysherebutme · 09/08/2022 22:23

I would definitely go to a and e to be on the safe side. X

kenadams86 · 09/08/2022 22:38

My daughter had similar symptoms as you describe a couple of years ago. She was vomiting for at least a month - usually at night. Some days were ok then it would start agajn. She lost loads of weight. We ended up in hospital for a couple of days. I don't think they believe me in the hospital but when she was sick at 5am on the first night of our stay they started to take us more seriously. They did bloods and monitoring and checked her for coeliac disease and when we were discharged we had open access back to the ward if anything changed. It did just stop on its own. They said it was likely to be mesenteric adenitis.

Petcarb · 09/08/2022 22:39

My DD at 5 did have something that caused vomitting and diarrhoea for about 3 weeks. We'd keep thinking she was better and then she'd be sick again. Usually only once a day or even less but proper projectile vomitting. GP was going to run some tests but then it just cleared up . No idea what it was, can only assume it was some sort of long-running virus

allboysherebutme · 09/08/2022 22:39

Could it be henoch schonlein pupura. ? X

allboysherebutme · 09/08/2022 22:40

Ask the dr or a and e if it could be HSP. X

BornBlonde · 09/08/2022 22:49

I would call 111 tonight and seek advice

smine1 · 09/08/2022 22:51

Having read your posts it reminded me of my dd many years ago. She too had been vomiting for weeks , back and forth to the GP weight loss, fatigue, little output. I took her to a&e the reg came after many hours after seeing the duty gp, she was so rude 'children get sick bugs' I dug my heels in I told her I knew my child and I was not happy to leave and sickness for three weeks and the weight loss was not normal. She was admitted, was placed on a drip and was seen the next day by the consultant. Blood tests came back with raised infection markers, stool clear , they started her on domperidone and after about a week she picked up. Never knew what it was but that medication really helped. Sending love 💕 I hope you get the support you need bless her
