Hi
I wonder if anyone can help with with a bizarre thing . I have noticed these purple stains on my sons sheets now and seem to be new ones appearing every day
I am really worrying something is wrong .
He is 14 and has no idea where they came from
I seem to remember a while ago I noticed it as well and just thought it was a pen mark or something
I have googled it and others have seen similar but no one knows what it is .
My heart is beating so fast . I suffer from health anxiety too and struggle with things I can explain .
photo attached.
please help

Jeans stain?
You haven't washed these with say DH work clothes?
I wouldn't think these are coming out of him as he would also be marked.
Seems to be a clothing or washing issue.

BingeBitch · 19/06/2022 10:31

Does he have new purple pyjamas? Could be dye transfer.

Elliejane · 19/06/2022 10:33

Also I noticed some rare illness over sweating purple but he wears white shirts for school and nothing there .

New marks appear every night . It’s so worrying me.

I agree it looks like a dye transfer or similar. From the pictures it doesn't look like it's come from any sort of liquid.

HSKAT · 19/06/2022 10:35

What is he wearing for bed?

Elliejane · 19/06/2022 10:41

Different shorts think black last night

Could that be mold or mildew? Could be sheets were damp or where he's been sweating maybe? Mold was my first thought and Google brings up a few things.

Maybe wash it all again and clean and air the mattress and room.

liveforsummer · 19/06/2022 10:43

Probably the shorts or what colour is the mattress? Some dye from there?

Fkingfnaaarr · 19/06/2022 10:43

Could it be indigo dye transfer? Does he have newish jeans? The dye transfers onto the skin and then leaches out when he's sweating overnight. It's not really noticeable on the skin (until you get your legs waxed and realise that your legs area bluey purple where they haven't been waxed yet)

Elliejane · 19/06/2022 10:49

Never wears jeans . Thanks you all so much for posting . I just can’t figure it out .
my mind going into over drive that it’s some rare condition ….

RoseslnTheHospital · 19/06/2022 10:51

It isn't a rare condition. The marks clearly look like contact marks from fabric, so she transfer is likely especially if he has dark clothing at night. Just wash the sheets with whitening powder added and get him some pale pjs and see if it still happens.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 19/06/2022 10:57

Sudocreme leaves purple stains, if he uses that for anything.(it’s good fit more than just nappy rash!).

BeyondMyWits · 19/06/2022 11:00

Ribena?

LIZS · 19/06/2022 11:03

Black dye stains purple

Elliejane · 20/06/2022 08:24

In a total panic again . Way more of the marks this morning . Only slept in his pants last night . I changed bedding last night and worse today .
I am terrified something is wrong with him . I feel like I am going to be sick

Gently, OP, what is more likely? That it's just some sort of dye transfer or from rubbing/chafing against the sheet of excess detergent being brought to the surface or that your son is exuding some sort of mysterious purple goo from apparently all over his body while being perfectly well?

It's a laundry problem, not a health one.

Suddha · 20/06/2022 08:29

Sunscreen stains? Dye transfer from clothes? There is literally no illness that makes purple stains so stop panicking. Have you actually asked your son what he’s doing to make those stains? Maybe he’s having a wank with a purple cloth! You won’t know unless you ask.

Seeline · 20/06/2022 08:34

Where abouts on the bed are these stains located? That last picture looks like it's under the pillow?
Hair dye?
Transfer from clothes?
Food/drink in bed?
Mold/mildew?
Drawing in bed?
Schoolwork in bed?
What 14yo boys do in the privacy of their rooms?

Is your DS fit and well? Eating and drinking normally? Alert? It's unlikely to be a serious illness if yes to all these.

Elliejane · 20/06/2022 08:34

He does not know what it is . It’s so strange . It looks like dye but I don’t understand it.
I can’t cope i just in such a panic . Can’t stop crying

OP posts:
HSKAT · 20/06/2022 08:34

What colour were his pants?
This isn't a health problem op.

Elliejane · 20/06/2022 08:43

Light coloured .
I can think of any explanation other than it coming out of him . Shoujd I phone a doctor or I just don’t know ?
I sitting her in tears

OP, I think you should probably contact your GP over your anxiety, rather than over the purple stains. Your son is fine, but I think you need some support.

HSKAT · 20/06/2022 08:47

Does he wash before bed? What does he use?
No, it isn't a health issue. But it is worth ringing them for yourself.

User3568975431146 · 20/06/2022 08:48

Is it on the same part of the sheets every time it happens? If so what part of his body does it match with?

Is he using any particular type of body wash or shampo that has colouring it it?

If it was coming out of him if wouldn't be in this sort of pattern, it would be in more of a splodge!!

What colour is his mattress under the sheet? Could he be sweating since it's warmer weather and the moisture is leaving to colour leakage from a fabric.

I honestly don't think it's something to worry about. 💐
