Hi
I wonder if anyone can help with with a bizarre thing . I have noticed these purple stains on my sons sheets now and seem to be new ones appearing every day
I am really worrying something is wrong .
He is 14 and has no idea where they came from
I seem to remember a while ago I noticed it as well and just thought it was a pen mark or something
I have googled it and others have seen similar but no one knows what it is .
My heart is beating so fast . I suffer from health anxiety too and struggle with things I can explain .
photo attached.
please help

Does he draw on his hands/ arms with biro at all? (Only asking because it's the kind of thing I did at that age!)
It does just look like ink transfer, really don't think it's anything to worry about

oh yes my teens always have somethign written on their hands!
Dd once woke up with writing on her face where she had slept on her hand!

Could it be that? The pen on his hand coming off?

Op you are NOT a fruit loop, you just need some help and support.
None of us think it is medical. But that doesn't stop you feeling anxious does it?

Elliejane · 20/06/2022 17:38

Update . My gp phoned me and asked to send photos . She also asked me to check his clothes and white shirt for school .
She said she not sure really but it either dye from that headband or a medical explanation is that sweat contains traces of iodine and salts etc and it could be a chemical reaction with the laundry detergent from sweat
She had discussed it with her colleagues and that’s what they think
I have a face to face appointment next week to discuss anxiety and options like ssri or hrt . I am at that age .
Thanks everyone today for being so helpful

Well hopefully that will put your mind at rest that your DS is absolutely fine.

No one thinks you are a fruit loop OP, just that your anxiety has taken over your rational mind. A lot of us get anxious especially about our kids but the trick is to try and keep it under control (easier said than done).
I wish you well at the GP and hope you can get some decent treatment Flowers

As a side note I really need to know what the marks are. Please conduct several experiments like PipeScatter suggests to narrow it down and find out what on earth it is Smile

BruisedSkies · 21/06/2022 07:24

Think I lost my previous post. But that’s a good outcome and I’m glad you’re seeing gp about anxiety.

Samarie123 · 21/06/2022 10:00

OP this looks like bedbug stains. I suggest having a close look around the mattress for anymore ink type stains as that is how they poop out the blood from biting the host.

Elliejane · 21/06/2022 18:10

It’s not bed bugs but thanks

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/06/2022 18:41

Looks nothing like bed bugs- fortunately!

Elliejane · 21/06/2022 20:33

@RichardOsmansXraySpecs thanks for your reply but I won’t be doing any experiments as it will just make me even more anxious and also will stress my son asking him to sleep in nude etc etc

I need to try to not worry now as my gp has assured me it not any serious and it’s either this head band marking it or a reaction with starch with his sweat somehow .

or it might never be explained. I am a person that always wants an explanation for something but maybe this never will know for sure . I have googled it and seems lots of people have similar and no real definite of what it was but eye masks

I not going to remove my son headband as he enjoys listening to that to get to sleep and I stressed him enough

Thanks to you all for all the suggestions and helping me rationalise it is not some rare illness

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 21/06/2022 21:10

Fair enough Op.
I hope you can find some peace now you know it’s nothing health related Flowers

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 22/06/2022 00:03

Pretty sure the pp was joking about experiments and didn't actually want you to do any, it's just it's very curious.😂

WorriedMillie · 22/06/2022 19:26

OH has similar on his pillow on occasion, when he has a sweaty head, I always assumed it was a reaction between a component of his sweat and something in the detergent. anyhow it’s been happening for the 26 years we’ve been together, so I’d definitely rule out anything sinister

I hope you can get some help for your anxiety soon, it’s incredibly hard to live with ❤️

itsgettingweird · 22/06/2022 20:07

Glad your getting support with your anxiety. It sounds like it's quite gripping for you atm.

There's a lot lately showing menopause can increase anxiety (or cause it) so 🤞 you can get some HRT.

And yes I'd go with dye or sweating.

When my ds was your ds age his t shirts use to have salt marks around the edges where he sweat once it dried out!!!!

Elliejane · 27/06/2022 13:54

Just update . 99% sure it’s the headband as today saw marks near side and then headband was lying pretty close it where mark was .

Thanks to everyone

Tomorrow have gp appt over my anxiety to discuss ssri or hrt or cbt etc as still feel on edge most of time

Ellie

That’s great to hear. Really hope you get something that works for your anxiety.

Lee26 · 08/06/2023 10:47

Hey I know this is an old post but did you ever find out what is was. This is happening to me and I'm freaking out, there's no clear answer on the internet

Elliejane · 08/06/2023 15:15

Hi
it was his headband for music . Swapped to a light coloured one and it stopped

I was in such a bad place that time over my mental health . Horrible

Thank you! It just dawned on me that it might be the exact same thing.

I hope you're in a much better mental state now. love and light

So pleased to hear you sounding calmer OP. Anxiety is a terrible thing, absolutely debilitating.

Did you end up on HRT? I was crippled with anxiety (mainly health) from my late 30s onwards. I thought I was going mad and was convinced I/DH/DCs were dying. It was horrific and I felt like my life was over by the time I was 40. A couple of years later, after coming off the pill and periods not returning, I had a blood test which revealed I was in early menopause. I'd very much likely been through premature menopause from my late 30s. I was put on HRT and within a couple of months pretty much all of my health anxieties disappeared.

I hope you've had equally good results if this was the cause 💐

Elliejane · 08/06/2023 20:38

@Lee26 do you use headband too ?

OP posts:
Elliejane · 08/06/2023 20:41

@Peachmangolemon hi no I did not go on hrt .I went on escitalopram instead which has helped . I am on 10mg but might increase slowly . I have not ruled out hrt though but I do have a condition that hrt would not help with so need to balance our pro and cons .
I have suffered from health anxiety for king time but last summer was the worse ever so has to do something and went on ssri

OP posts:
Peachmangolemon · 09/06/2023 10:14

Ah, well, whatever works, I'm glad it's working for you!

Anxiety is debilitating. I've had periods of my life when it's been worse than others, but when it's really bad you can't explain to others how you feel, and why you feel this way. Logic goes completely out of the window, even if you know deep inside what you're thinking isn't sensible. If only it was as easy as 'calm down', 'see a doctor ', 'you don't need to stress', we'd be sorted!

All the best to you xx

Elliejane · 09/06/2023 10:34

Thanks very much for your kind reply . Yes I totally agree it is the worst feeling just takes over your life x
