DD bringing up sick in her mouth constantly

What do you think this could be? Since last night my 8 year old was being sick in her mouth small amounts and then spitting it out into the toilet. It happened around 20 times and I called 111, they told us to go to the out of hours at the hospital which we did. Saw the GP who said it looks viral. She’s absolutely fine in herself and isn’t showing any other signs of a bug? I’ve given her lunch today and she’s started again with the sick in her mouth and having to spit it out. Does this seem like a normal viral infection? I always thought sickness bugs were full on vomiting ect. Has anyone else experienced this?

Anyone?:(

Dozer · 23/12/2021 19:56

My DC had similar symptoms last week and it was covid.

TheVolturi · 23/12/2021 19:57

Sounds more like acid reflux 🤔

Dozer · 23/12/2021 19:57

Had the sick in mouth thing for 2 days, then symptoms changed to temperature/headache/sore throat.

ACCx · 23/12/2021 20:12

Thanks for being reassuring! I suffer with health anxiety myself so this is worrying for me. I’ve been giving her bland food today and it’s just started again. I know the gp said viral but it just doesn’t seem like a sickness bug at all as she’s fine in herself.

Sounds like reflux

ACCx · 23/12/2021 20:17

I thought so to but wasn’t sure if it’s normal for an 8 year old. Is there anything that I can do for reflux?

OP posts:
ACCx · 23/12/2021 20:35

Just done a lat flow and it’s negative, although I know they’re not the best.

Becles · 23/12/2021 20:42

Make sure she rinses her mouth regularly to stop thr stomach acid damaging her mouth.

Could she have food poisoning?

ACCx · 23/12/2021 20:44

@Becles No i wouldn’t have thought so
I don’t think she’s eaten anything that would’ve given her food poisoning. Like I say it’s not as if she’s vomiting she just gets little bits of sick in her mouth. So strange x

Yes, the cough/ vomits have been around here. DD is easing off now, thank goodness. Took her to the doctor and her friend from school was also there! Not covid. G.P said hold off all dairy for five days
Hope your DD feels better soon.

Suzi888 · 23/12/2021 20:53
  • Should say not full on throwing up, a mouthful or two. DD has had it on and off for ten days, otherwise fine in herself.
ACCx · 23/12/2021 21:00

@Suzi888 oh really that is reassuring. She seems to get a lot of mouthfuls which is odd. I think I’ll definitely keep her off dairy for a bit though!

This is still happening and starting to worry me :( back at the out of hours doctors and just hoping they help or give her something instead of saying it is viral. Any advice?

Vicky1989x · 27/12/2021 22:47

Sounds like acid reflux to me. How did you get on
at the doctors?

ACCx · 27/12/2021 23:05

Hey, so I told them that I didn’t think it was a viral like the last dr said and the most recent dr agreed with me and said acid reflux. He gave us a prescription:)

My 8 year old son gets this, he was diagnosed with rumination syndrome aged 6.

itwasntaparty · 01/01/2022 02:43

Sounds like reflux, I'm in the same boat!

ACCx · 01/01/2022 17:48

@itwasntaparty it’s a nightmare isn’t it!

Need to get the bottom of what is causing the acid reflux. If this is a new thing? GPs are good at fobbing off with meds for reflux when tackling the cause is needed alongside.

If it was my child and we reached the 2 week mark of these symptoms I'd want full blood work up (I have hashimotos hypothyroidism and acid reflux is a little known symptom and I'm Paranoid about my kids developing this auto immune condition as mine was under treated for so many years).

Also keep a food / drink / activity /
Sleep diary to see if a trigger can be identified that way. And ask her to note down her moods and thoughts (if she will) in case it is anxiety induced.

Oh. And PCR test to rule out Covid!

Good luck. Hope it resolves soon.

WhatTHEactualWHAT · 02/01/2022 23:30

@ACCx how is your daughter doing? I hope it has all settled down following the prescription for acid reflux.
DS is currently suffering with acid reflux and also with stomach pain. Have been told by GP to provide a poop sample to rule out H.Pylori infection. Gaviscon does not seem to be helping much

Ormally · 02/01/2022 23:35

Hope she is ok.
I also had this with Covid, constant reflux even with water. Didn't connect it to being part of the package at all, and was given omeprazole for a while afterwards but I didn't feel better on it, then didn't need it after about a week.

BeagleBum2001 · 02/01/2022 23:36

DD had this and it was H pylori causing reflux.

ACCx · 02/01/2022 23:41

Hi @WhatTHEactualWHAT the dr gave us buscapan in tablets and gavison. (I think that’s what it was) and it has settled. Today was her last day on the medication so we will see if it continues without x

Check for fecal impaction. It can present different to how you may think. X
