Persistent limp, night pain and now rash

Hi I posted a previous thread explaining my child has a persistent limp which I'm told is irritable hip recurring. He is now having leg pain at night and also a few different rashes this past month. I'm thinking these rashes are viral but was not sure? The one on his stomach he had for a week which then went and now he has this rash over just the tops of his legs and a few on his face. Any ideas?

@crumblebug

That is a big tum!

Can you list all his symptoms- you mentioned constipation too?

I don't even know where to start. irritable hip weakness in leg Upper respiratory infections for 3 months weekly fevers as high as 40 lasting for 3+days. Constipation Weight loss Very pale. Frequent night time waking- saying ouch holding leg. Rashes and unexplained recurring bruising around his mouth. Cough for 6 months plus- which they said could be asthma so he is on two inhalers for this.

Just seems the last three months he has got worse. Just not himself at all xx

Poor baby. I'm shocked this hasn't been taken seriously

Does he have any bruising under his eyes (a very specific question!)

Gosh, good luck OP. The weight loss alone needs further investigation, hope you get sorted. I do still think its worth a visit to A&E with that list of symptoms. Sometimes you do need to attend a few times to get that right Dr that pieces it all together. Good that you have contacted a well known paediatrician too. He needs to be seen this week

foxgoosefinch · 22/10/2021 21:04

With rash and joint pain you need a set of bloods done, OP - I would chase up the GP or have them done privately if no luck at the GP. Rash, night waking, pale, cough - I would be asking for them to check lymphatic system, white blood cell count and inflammatory markers for autoimmune conditions. Hope you get some answers soon!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the paediatrician I have contacted this evening will see us asap. No doctor seems to be looking at all the problems as a whole so it's very stressful. They will only discuss one issue per appointment which is so silly! Will keep you posted thank you xxx

You need to go back to A and E

I think he needs blood tests and a CT scan of his tummy

I don't want to scare you at all. I'd be fairly concerned for something nasty with those symptoms and such a big tummy

Please take him back to children's A and E

I requested blood tests four weeks ago to my GP who said they didn't think he needed them but referred us anyway but it was a 12 week wait I looked at paying private but the clinic I was referred too do the blood tests but don't tell you what the results mean and my doctor said they wouldn't look at them unless done by an nhs clinic. I've emailed a paediatrician this evening so hopefully can pay to go private and get this sorted asap xx

We took him to A&E 4 weeks ago where we were told he has irritable hip again after a virus and wait for the referral to a paediatrician as A&E was for accidents and emergencies and this was neither of them. They were quite annoyed that we had taken him there to be honest xx

I'm so sorry you haven't been listened to, it's completely inexcusable

I think it's very concerning for a malignancy but I do hope I'm wrong

Runforthehillocks · 22/10/2021 21:15

I am going to second @crumblebug and tell you to go to A&E with that list of symptoms. He needs exactly what she says and blood tests without delay. You seem like such a lovely person - really hope you can get him to A&E if not tonight then first thing tomorrow. Xxx

lovelychops · 22/10/2021 21:36

You've had some great advice on here and I know you won't give up.
I think you need to list all his symptoms and demand a blood test.
Trust your instincts that something isn't right and the professionals need to look at the bigger picture.
I'd seriously consider the children's hospital in brum if you don't get anywhere this weekend with your emails regarding going private.
Sending love

When I queried this with the doctor they said he would be a lot more poorly then he is. They made me feel like I was stupid to even suggest it xx

If I wasn't so worried about the fact A&E previously sent me away saying it was irritable hip than I would. I think they think I'm a neurotic parent. If I have no luck from the paediatrician tomorrow I will take him back. Thank you Smile xx

My sons tummy was like that - he had coeliac disease. Can you start keeping g a food diary along with symptoms to see if there's a pattern . Hopefully the private doctor comes back to you and can help

countrygirl171 · 22/10/2021 23:28

It might be henoch schonlein purpura

careerchangeperhaps · 23/10/2021 06:16

The purple eyes, constipation, weight loss, possible anaemia and bloated tummy could definitely indicate coeliac disease and would be worth ruling it out.

PesosBandage · 25/10/2021 13:35

Any success yet, OP? We're in our own private vs NHS battle, so I've been thinking of you. Hope you've managed to get him seen by someone who'll actually listen.

I started a different thread before this one and a few moms recommended to take him to A&E I called 111 who told us to go to A&E if we are concerned. They checked him over said his observations were okay. I wanted a second opinion after the nurse agreed there could be something underlying. The consultant agreed for us to go for blood tests on Thursday! I was so relieved. I'm still seeing a private paediatrician on the 4th November as I still want other things checked. What are your little ones symptoms xx

Runforthehillocks · 27/10/2021 21:43

So glad they're doing some blood tests tomorrow. Fingers crossed they get to the bottom of it. Well done you for pursuing it with such courage.

Toddlerteaplease · 27/10/2021 22:38

@Runforthehillocks

Ask them to check for auto immune system things, like Kawasaki disease. I'm not suggesting it is that, but auto immune things are often missed because each symptom seems separate but actually they're all linked.
Kawasaki would make him very unwell and it's an acute thing rather than chronic.
