Persistent limp, night pain and now rash

Hi I posted a previous thread explaining my child has a persistent limp which I'm told is irritable hip recurring. He is now having leg pain at night and also a few different rashes this past month. I'm thinking these rashes are viral but was not sure? The one on his stomach he had for a week which then went and now he has this rash over just the tops of his legs and a few on his face. Any ideas?

Has anyone mentioned Perthes Disease? It's a degenerative hip condition my dd2 had/has which can cause pain, limping and inability to weight bear. Easily diagnosed on X-ray and there are a variety of treatments.

Doesn't fit with the rash, but would really explain the hip symptoms, they sound very much like what dd went through, she's now 17 and waiting for a hip replacement.

It might make them sit up and take notice if you say you'd like Kawasaki to be ruled out. Poor you - limping since March is not right, nor is losing weight. You just need someone to link it all. Go back to your GP as well.

Really hope you get some answers soon and your poor little boy starts to get better. Totally rooting for you.

I don't think it will Confused Kawasaki Disease has many symptoms and a rash and joint pain are only two. It will just confuse things to ask for something to be ruled out just to make people 'sit up'.

Having said that, I absolutely think you need to get further advice. Did he ever have a hip x-ray?

Suzi888 · 22/10/2021 19:59

A&E or private. I’d insist on proper diagnosis. That’s a hell of a long time to be limping. Sad

We queried perthes disease when it first started but apart from some constipation the hip X-ray was clear. Hope your daughter is doing okay xx

He had an X-ray on his hip back in March but apart from constipation seen on the X-ray they said it was clear xx

We have emailed a paediatrician this evening so hopefully can start the ball rolling with going privately. His limping has been on and off since March but he has a noticeable weakness on his left side, the knee constantly gives way resulting in him falling over xx

Coeliac disease? Joint pains and severe anaemia were my daughters main symptoms at diagnosis. Rash may be dermatitis herpetiformis.

PeachesPumpkin · 22/10/2021 20:08

Also the constipation and weight loss make me suspicious of Coeliac disease.

I've thought maybe coeliac too but at the moment no doctors seem to be listening to me. It's so stressful. The doctor looked at the rash today and said it was eczema but I'm unsure xx

Hi, my DD now 3 had the same issue March this year limping, couldn't weight bear loss of appetite and fatigued, GP kept saying it was viral but we kept pushing and got a referral to paediatrics who ran blood tests and she was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis, is definitely push to be seen by paediatrics and have bloods done x

Thank you I will be looking in to this too and hopefully see a paediatrician privately! Hope your DD is okay xx

@butterfly193 my daughter also has JIA. Hope you are doing ok? We are two years post diagnosis and my daughter is currently in medicated remission.

butterfly193 · 22/10/2021 20:25

@pumpkinspice1 thank you she's better now but is on a lot of medication and still flares up now and again, we were really lucky we were seen by rheumatology just days after referral and started medications the week after we are in Scotland though, I couldn't imagine having to wait 8 weeks it's so hard seeing your little ones in pain you feel so helpless. X

Gosh this is terrible - I can't believe your GP! I know you're in midlands but the Portland Hospital for women and children in London is private and can usually get an appointment with a paed within 24 hours and a call wjth one in the first instance. It's worth it if you can't find one locally...

butterfly193 · 22/10/2021 20:29

@SergeiL my daughter was diagnosed in March after being unable to walk for weeks and limping also swelling in joints, we were seen pretty quickly and every joint in her body was affected she is now on enbrel and methotrexate she also takes prednisolone daily! The consultants think it was Covid that started the flare up in it as we all had it at start of year her poor immune system was all over the place 😞 so good to hear your daughter is in medicated remission gives me hope that my DD will hopefully grow out of this ❤️

Thank you so much! I'm hopefully going to be speaking to a private paediatrician tomorrow so fingers crossed they can see us ASAP! If not I will definitely contact Portland xx

They blame covid for the backlog with appointments but when it's your child the worry just eats away at you doesn't it. Fingers crossed we can get in privately and get this looked at. I've just googled JIA and he does fit a lot of the symptoms xx
