When my PFB was nearly 6 months my MIL gave him a tiny taste of chocolate off her finger. Reader, I was FUMMING (despite the fact I really liked her).

When my secondborn was the same age he got hold of a chocolate chip cookie and had a grand old time with it.

I took pictures. Which I fully intend to trot out at his wedding.

My daughter at about 9 months ate bird shit that was on the grass. She is still alive, happy and well.

@wassfd

Everyones always pressuring me to feed him crap. He loves his vegetables so I'll be sticking to them from now on
Oh that’s just wrong, especially when 64% of Uk adults are overweight 🙄
dementedpixie · 01/07/2021 19:20

Pre packed cooked sausage rolls are ready to eat and perfectly fine to eat. Deli meats are cured meats that have been cured rather than cooked e.g. pepperoni.

Your child will be just fine and not at risk of listeria

missw1987 · 01/07/2021 19:20

@ItsSnowJokes hahahahha!! My 18 month old has eaten pretty much everything!

I take it you thoroughly cook everything you feed him them. In terms of healthy eating that’s preferring veggies enough. But it seems a bit odd if you’re going to single out a sausage roll as the devil’s food because of the listeria risk (although a sausage roll is not in the same category as high listeria risk foods) when vegetables are hardly risk free. They are about as likely to carry listeria as cooked sausage meat, as well as ecoli and salmonella (I remember a big ecoli outbreak from bean sprouts about 10 years ago. First they thought it was cucumber. I lived in Germany at the time and for about three weeks no food outlets were allowed to sell any salad while they tried to work out which was the guilty veg). Not saying you should worry about it, but maybe don’t be quite so sanctimonious about feeding vegetables as though it’s much less risky than what you’re MIL gave him.

He can’t just be eating vegetables. He will become ill. He needs to eat a balanced diet including iron rich foods as his iron stores will have run out.
SpringRainbow · 01/07/2021 19:35

Vegetables are good but dairy is extremely important as well.

It’s good to introduce a wide range of foods.

LuckyC27 · 01/07/2021 19:46

Ftm highly researched every morsel that went in my sons mouth between 6 and 8 months. Now he’s 11 months old on the move and tries to eat mud daily and manages to hide food he’s had for lunch/dinner (god knows where I have to hoover after every meal) the next day I always find him on the floor scoffing leftovers Blush

Spyro1234 · 01/07/2021 19:56

Are you confusing this with pregnancy? I didn't eat some processed meat like salami in case of listeria, during pregnancy.

He can definitely eat stuff like that without being at risk!

My 10 month old chewed on my dogs paw last week. She's fine!

wassfd · 01/07/2021 20:11

He doesn't just live off vegetables I meant he'll be having that rather than a sausage roll.

Yeah but I also remember elderly people dying from pre packaged sandwiches so I suppose I had a bit of a scare.

Honestly? Hes going to be fine. Mine was licking the bottom of my shoes at that age..

ShinySquirrel · 01/07/2021 20:20

He'll be fine, but you'll have to rename him Gregg.

Hallyup6 · 01/07/2021 20:25

Have you ever had listeria (or ever been ill) from eating a prepacked sausage roll?

If this is a genuine question then I'm very worried about you.

Bugger off and worry about something else then.

I still have a picture of my PFB happily chomping on the sole of one of my shoes around 8mo.
GreyhoundG1rl · 01/07/2021 20:29

Rude, op. You really need to dial down the hysteria. Being aggressive isn't helping you at all.

claralara42 · 01/07/2021 20:32

@wassfd

Because deli meat can cause listeria
A sausage roll is not deli meat, and anything can harbour listeria. Fruit. Ice cream. Butter. Salad. It's pretty rare but it can be almost anywhere.

You need to chill.

Yes he eats my shoe all the time too haha

Pinkywoo · 01/07/2021 20:35

Nocutenamesleft

She ate a 5p coin. (We sterilised it and then framed it! I’m a shit parent we’re going to give it to her on her 18th! It took 3 weeks to come out!).

Same here, but DS managed to poo it out in 4 days. I've framed it along with the x-ray of it inside his little belly!

Thehenbunringsock · 01/07/2021 20:35

He chews on your shoe but you're worried about listeria from some pastry? Starting to wonder if this thread is a bit goady.

itsgettingwierd · 01/07/2021 20:36

@BusySittingDown

He'll be fine OP, don't worry!

Wow, MN has changed in the 15 years I've been here! 15 years ago all the replies would have been posters having an attack of the vapours over the fact that a 7 month old even sniffed a sausage roll! 😂

Anyone else remember threads where Gregg's sausage rolls were mentioned like they were the root of all evil? Just me? I'm getting old. Grin

Not just you.

I was expecting replies to mention greggs (although OP said it's Aldi) and reference he'd be ok if it was washed down with a fruit shoot or suggest if he also had a fruit shoot he was in for sure fire trouble Grin
