No need to worry about listeria in a sausage roll. Salt on the other hand....just kidding OP, everything is well

toocold54 · 01/07/2021 18:29

Lots of bacteria can live on different foods so I wouldn’t worry as you take a chance with whatever you feed them. A prepackaged sausage roll is absolutely fine even if he ate the entire thing. It’s really worrying when they start weaning but it’s good if they get a taste of everything and by 2 they’ll be trying to eat play dough and everything.

I also gave mine gone off milk when he was just over a year old - I had a cold and didn’t smell it, didn’t think to check the date as we’d just bought it a day or two ago. He vomited all over our shopping trolley later that day. He was completely fine and happy just before vomiting and continued to giggle and be happy after wards. Me less so. The people who worked in the supermarket we were shopping in probably we’re probably the least happy and looked ready to vomit next. I still haven’t been back there...

Rosesareyellow
I ate coal as a small child, I also ate shoe polish. Apparently my nappies were a sight to beholdGrin

Poor OP, I’d probably have freaked out too. So much scary advice about what to let them eat (or not) at that age. Obviously keep an eye on him and if he gets a high fever or starts being sick take him to the hospital. But I sincerely doubt that will happen and it’s worth bearing in mind that listeria is actually really rare. And as PP have said, toddlers and babies are always grabbing exactly the wrong thing and mouthing it! In my son’s case that has so far included the neighbour’s dog’s ball in the shared garden (yuck yuck so yuck), a really dirty dishcloth (I was in fits over that — husband left it in his reach and was in my bad books for at least an hour), and a small piece of honey waffle before the age of 1. He’s absolutely fine.

As a toddler my Dbro used to enjoy a nice crunchy woodlouse from the garden.😋

Terrysmyorange · 01/07/2021 18:34

My toddler eat a dog biscuit today. All is well and said toddler is still running around like a whirlwind 🤷‍♀️

@wassfd

Thank you both I thought deli meat was just packaged meat maybe I was mistaken.
Deli meat is things like sliced salami etc that you buy loose from a delicatessen counter.
ILoveShula · 01/07/2021 18:39

It isn't suitable baby food. Go NC with your mother.,

Thehenbunringsock · 01/07/2021 18:39

Really random thing to be worried about! Wait til they're a bit older and they start eating things that aren't food...

ahoyshipmates · 01/07/2021 18:41

@BlowMeDownWithAFeather

Mouldy pastry was the forerunner of penicillin.
I thought it was a mouldy melon.

Is that really the ‘obvious’ thing to do though? Yes listeria is rare. It’s rare in all food, even cured meats and even less so in a flake of prepackaged pastry from a sausage roll. You might as well advise to ‘keep an eye on him’ and run to the hospital with a fever after eating any cold meal.

Bless you...in a few years you'll look back and laugh Flowers

LowlandLucky · 01/07/2021 18:51

My MIL gave my baby SunnyD, i didn't bat an eyelid.

I assume you’re being sarcastic but if not OP don’t do this.

LowlandLucky · 01/07/2021 18:53

All joking aside, i think it is really worrying that we are a the point where poor mums are petrified because their baby has eaten an everyday food. The scaremongering really does need to stop. Being a new Mum these days must be a nightmare.

diddl · 01/07/2021 18:55

Had the bit of pastry even been in contact with the (non deli) meat??

ILoveShula · 01/07/2021 18:59

@toocold54, hmm, maybe.

My mother was warned that if she gave my DC sugar, it would be zero contact. I caught her giving my sibling's PFB a spoonful of sugar with milk on it as a baby. Ugh.

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/07/2021 19:06

I think they probably mean things like rare sliced beef or Parma ham.

ApplesinmyPocket · 01/07/2021 19:07

It would never have crossed my mind to worry about this! Honestly, OP, it's fine.

wassfd · 01/07/2021 19:08

Everyones always pressuring me to feed him crap. He loves his vegetables so I'll be sticking to them from now on

Me and DD had sausage rolls and bbq beans for tea tonight. It was lush.

Inthesameboatatmo · 01/07/2021 19:10

He will be fine op ,please don't worry.
For what it's worth one if my children at a snail when they were 2 ,they are fine .

FunMcCool · 01/07/2021 19:13

Having children is such a scary time, I felt like everything was a danger, but please try not to worry. Try and relax a bit as your baby picks up on these vibes. Maybe speak to someone about anxiety?
