So I don’t want to sound like a hypochondriac, but my son has a blotchy rash on his leg, just looks like lots of tiny bruises under the skin and I cannot figure out how they could have got there, he’s had a vest on all day and I only noticed this rash about half an hour ago.
What is holding me back from a&e is that he seems well in himself no temperature etc,
What would you do??

Oh and I forgot to add that when I press the area it does not clear.. the marks still remain under his skin?

Oh for goodness sakes
Get to A&e immediately. Now. Right now.

Fightthebear · 17/07/2018 20:03

Don’t ask us. Ring NHS now.

CleverQuacks · 17/07/2018 20:03

Take him now! Meningitis can kill in a couple of hours. It’s not worth taking the risk

Fightthebear · 17/07/2018 20:03

Actually yes, A&E now.

Caribbeanyesplease · 17/07/2018 20:04

Seriously.
Get your child, get in the car and GO

Atetoomanyjaffacakes · 17/07/2018 20:04

A and E immediately

sleepingbaby1125 · 17/07/2018 20:04

Phone 111 immediately they ll advise better and quicker than a forum.

Bigpizzalover · 17/07/2018 20:04

If I thought it was meningitis I’d got straight to a&e and probably ring ahead on the way, if I didn’t think it was, but was still worried I’d ring 111.

The symptoms of meningitis are all on the NHS website, off the top of my head a few things are the rash that doesn’t disappear, been adverse to light, stiff/sore neck

Fightthebear · 17/07/2018 20:04

We had similar when DS1 was a toddler and A&E kept him in for observation. Just go.

Caribbeanyesplease · 17/07/2018 20:05

Don’t ring

Just GO

And go straight to the front of the queue if there is one and say your child has a rash that doesn’t disappear in be glass test

Geordiegirl1988 · 17/07/2018 20:07

If you suspect meningitis get to A&E FAST ! Ffs are people really this dumb to ask on mumsnet whether a random person could diagnose meningitis over the bloody internet !! Go go go now to A&E

hairymoragthebampot · 17/07/2018 20:08

A & E don’t wait.

Maursh · 17/07/2018 20:16

He has a RASH and NOTHING else?
Please do not waste time in A&E unless there are other symptoms. Specifically you state that there is no fever which means it is highly unlikely to be meningitis. Call 101 to alleviate your anxiety.

Graphista · 17/07/2018 20:19

Maursh are you a medic?

I'm with the others, go to a&e, not all symptoms occur in every person - that's true of any condition.

Fightthebear · 17/07/2018 20:26

“Highly unlikely to be meningitis” is not just good enough for a potentially life threatening condition.

A non-blanching bruise like rash would never be wasting A&E’s time.

Charlie4491 · 17/07/2018 20:56

This is why I was unsure, because he is so well in himself and I was always led to believe that symptoms start before the rash, there is no fever, he’s happy and bubbly in himself.
Anywho as soon as I posted this I called the out of hours and they advised me to go to a&e and we are here now. I’m not expecting anyone to diagnose this over the internet, I’m not that dumb. More really for advice.

Hope all is ok and you don’t have to wait too long.

chicola · 17/07/2018 20:57

Glad you're there now. Hopefully you'll be on your way home soon feeling reassured he's ok x

doodlejump1980 · 17/07/2018 21:00

Fucks sake get off the internet and take him to a&e. My sister died from meningitis.

Keel · 17/07/2018 21:01

Hope all goes well. You did right thing to get him checked out.

ShackUp · 17/07/2018 21:02

Well done OP hope all is well Thanks

MamaLupine · 17/07/2018 21:02

Best wishes Charlie. You've done the right thing. It's difficult to know what to do sometimes, especially if it's your first child. Hope your son is ok.

Fightthebear · 17/07/2018 21:05

Fingers crossed it’s nothing to worry about and you’re home soon.

ItsLikeRainOnYourWeddingDay · 17/07/2018 21:10

If everyone on here had said just wait and take him to the GP tomorrow would you have done that?

You are an incredibly irresponsible parent.
