So I don’t want to sound like a hypochondriac, but my son has a blotchy rash on his leg, just looks like lots of tiny bruises under the skin and I cannot figure out how they could have got there, he’s had a vest on all day and I only noticed this rash about half an hour ago.
What is holding me back from a&e is that he seems well in himself no temperature etc,
What would you do??

Hope everything is ok Thanks

I was under the impression the rash was one of the last symptoms to be present? I always thought a rash was usually ok on its own as they'd show other signs first - temp, lethargy, aversion to lights, stiff neck etc. Glad I've read this thread.

hendricksy · 17/07/2018 21:17

Hope he is ok

Yes Glitteryfluff - non blanching rash usually one of the last symptoms, but I'd still get it checked out even if no others. In fact I did do so when DD had one a few years ago. We got seen very quickly, because of what we were presenting with, but were also reassured that it was very unlikely to be meningitis.

MollyHuaCha · 17/07/2018 21:25

Hope he's ok.

Hope all well x

I think unlikely to be meningitis in a "well" child but could be something else. My DS had ITP, an autoimmune condition, that presented with petechiae all over his legs (plus blood blisters in his mouth) in an otherwise healthy boy, no temperature, playing etc. He still needed urgent treatment.

LEMtheoriginal · 17/07/2018 21:35

Marking place hoping that all is well op x

lolalotta · 17/07/2018 21:37

Good luck OP, I hope all is well xxx

Quartz2208 · 17/07/2018 21:40

It could very well be HSP as it presents like a non blanching rash on the legs - this also needs medical attention

It is unlikely to be meningitis or sepsis without other symptoms but does need checking out

LilQueenie · 17/07/2018 21:43

oh ffs meningitis often has NO symptoms so when you see what could be one go to A&E. why the hell would you wait?

Charlie4491 · 17/07/2018 22:30

I’m glad there’s other parents on here that can see from my point of view. And no I am NOT an irresponsible parent, sometimes it’s hard to know what you are dealing with especially when your child has 1 symptom, but seems so happy in themselves with no fever and has been giggling and playing all day quite happily. Anyway I have been reassured that it’s unlikely to be meningitis because of how well he is in himself, so it’s not ‘inconsiderate’ of me to have thought it could be harmless. And no, if everyone on here told me to stay at home and watch the soaps as if I’m going to take any notice. Obviously I was going to seek some kind of professional help, how would I sleep at night knowing he might wake in the night covered in this rash I would never forgive myself. In fact I didn’t even read any of these replies until I got to the hospital I was genuinely just asking other people’s opinions on what they would do.

You have definitely done the right thing op but as I understand it the rash is one of the last symptoms to appear, but still you never know.
Hope you're home soon.

shewolfmum · 17/07/2018 22:55

Some people are nuts aren't they. Meningitis doesn't present as a 'well' child. So you were right to be confused....however a non blanching rash would always need checking out. I hear you op!

bobstersmum · 17/07/2018 22:58

Forgot to mention my ds bumped his head on our decking a few days ago, the decking is covered at the moment in an outdoor rug, it came up immediately as a purple dotty rash, suppose its a carpet burn type thing really but it does look odd!

shakeyourcaboose · 17/07/2018 23:08

"Charlie* hope you and LO are ok. Can't believe you have got some arseit replies. The medics l work with ALWAYS state that they would rather see and send away well than not see.

fuzzyfozzy · 18/07/2018 08:42

Glad he's ok.
