Is this a RIDICULOUS amount of sugar for a nearly 3 year old?

DS is given about 2 adult handfuls of grapes, 3/4 of a punnet of raspberries, chocolate cake, 2-3 scoops of ice cream with sugar strands and a chocolate button every time he uses the potty. We're 3 weeks into potty training, so he's still put on the potty every 1-2 hours.

Omg, im assuming youre not serious..?

BarryTheKestrel · 27/05/2018 10:43

Yes. Entirely ridiculous. But you know that. The standard if using bribery for potty training is a single chocolate button and once consistent for a few days that should be stopped.

CrikeyGinger · 27/05/2018 10:43

I don’t understand. He uses the potty and then he gets a knickerbocker glory?

xTinkerhellx · 27/05/2018 10:43

He gets ALL of that every 1-2 hours?

Seriously? Or did I misread?

Moonkissedlegs · 27/05/2018 10:44

He is given all that every time he uses the potty?

Yes, that is too much. Just give him a chocolate button.

Nothisispatrick · 27/05/2018 10:45

What?

doodlejump1980 · 27/05/2018 10:46

Wtf?

DaanSaaf · 27/05/2018 10:47

No he doesn't.

bluerunningshoes · 27/05/2018 10:48

the whole thing or one of those?
one of those occassionally is ok, best to be given as part of a meal, but all together much too much for even an adult, let alone a toddler.
tbh I am no fan of food as a treat, stickers or small toys or a game are a better and healthier reward

Catastrophik · 27/05/2018 10:48

That’s more than I could eat

snufflehuff · 27/05/2018 10:48

This is not me. It's my MIL. I want opinions to pass on to my DH as my protests are being ignored on all fronts.

Sorry 1-2 buttons every time he uses the potty. Everything else is in the space of about 7 hours when he goes to visit.

Stop putting him on the potty for starters. He needs to start recognising the need rather than being promoted the time.

Aprilmightbemynewname · 27/05/2018 10:51

Gonna be some sized potty you be needing soon op.

shelentei · 27/05/2018 10:51

Definitely stop the buttons with potty training. If he's not been doing it for long then it'll be easier to stop it now and switch to something else. The fruits okay.

MollyDaydream · 27/05/2018 10:52

Once a week? Once a month? Everyday?

I would say cake or ice-cream, not both, but other than that if its just once a week at nanny's house I wouldn't mind.

snufflehuff · 27/05/2018 10:52

ITS NOT ME!!!

Moonkissedlegs · 27/05/2018 10:56

Oh I see! 😂

So he is given a button each time for the potty and then all the other stuff by MIL over the day? How often?

FuckingHateRain · 27/05/2018 11:14

Can't MIL give him a cuddle and say well done instead? Hmm
Wouldn't stop the fruits though, but the rest... tell her where to put them... unless she's happy to wash his teeth everytime

Aprilmightbemynewname · 27/05/2018 17:50

Ask her if she has a wheelbarrow - she will need one instead of a buggy soon if she carries on.

NeedAUsernameGenerator · 27/05/2018 17:53

Personally I think it's an ice cream too much (assuming a v.small piece of cake, say 1/4 of an adult portion).

SoyDora · 27/05/2018 17:55

How often does he go to MIL’s?

TheVanguardSix · 27/05/2018 17:58

Food as a reward is one slippery ass slope.
Your MIL is absurd. I really feel for you because you’ll have to do battle over this. Goodness. Your poor little one must feel sick after a day at granny’s! Confused

upsideup · 27/05/2018 18:28

If this is happening once every few months then I think its fine
The fruit and chocolate buttons are fine are fine if its once a week, but he doesnt need cake and an icecream that often.

We're 3 weeks into potty training, so he's still put on the potty every 1-2 hours.

Doesn’t sound like he’s ready for it.
