Hi please help me and my childs father are currently being accused of child abuse. There's no way I'd ever hurt my children. I think my daughter has osteogenesis imperfecta. Does anyones child have this ?? How can i get tested for it to see if me and her dad are carriers ? I'm losing my mind both my children are in foster care due to this

You need legal advice.

CrossFreelancer · 26/12/2017 15:14

So sorry to hear this. I do not know the correct procedures, but can you ask the hospital or your GP for an investigation into osteogenesis imperfecta?

Kaylax88 · 26/12/2017 15:44

I keep asking the doctor but they aren't testing for it I'm so stressed out.

NorthernLurker · 26/12/2017 15:59

No they may feel they have the explanation so they won't test. Every parent who IS guilty of NAI claims something like this. I repeat you need legal advice.

Kaylax88 · 26/12/2017 17:11

I know. The doctor believes it's nai so that's that in his eyes. I've got a solicitor once she's open again I'll ask her to push for it. I don't understand how she's got multiple fractures without ever having any marks.. bruising or swelling. Only her thigh swelled which is why we went hospital I thought she had a blood clot.

How old is she? Did they find a fractured femur then?
Don't feel you have to answer, I am just being nosy and wondering. What a horrible thing to happen to your family at this time of year.

Kaylax88 · 26/12/2017 20:40

She was 6 weeks old. Her thigh was swollen and I took her a&e (emergency department) they gave her thigh an x ray and it showed the broken femur. Then they had to do a full skeletal and found multiple fractures. She's never had any bruising or marks I don't understand it all. She's been crying from birth 24 7 I feel awful

I remember your last thread OP. I'm so sorry you're going through this. Did you get to speak to your solicitor at all before the Christmas holidays?

RavenclawRealist · 26/12/2017 20:44

Are you sure they haven't tested for it? Bloods for things like OI should be taken as routine, when NAI is suspected It's possible the results aren't back yet but it should have be checked in my experience.

PutAnOwlOnIt · 26/12/2017 20:47

8 agree you need a solicitor. One marker a child we know who has with OI is that the whites of their eyes are blue tinged. It was observed at birth and testing was arranged soon after. Took a while for the results to come back - it's not a normal blood test.

Kaylax88 · 26/12/2017 21:13

Yea spoke to solicitor we've had 2 court hearings already. Don't go back until April once independent x ray reports are back etc. The doctor in charge said her fractures aren't consistent with o.i ... but my argument is he isn't a specialist who can say this. I've spoke to the o.i foundation who told me to get my solicitor to refer her to a centre of excellence so will do that once she's back in january. The only bloods they done were for vitamind which was level 64 however 2 weeks prior I started her on a vitamin syrup as she weren't drinking a lot. Hopefully someone will listen to me soon and test for it just to rule it out as I can't imagine anyone around her hurting her.. but sometimes people surprise you don't they. Hope this isn't the case

It sounds like your having a time of it op. Id get legal help and go from there

Kaylax88 · 26/12/2017 21:20

I literally have no-one to talk to about it. Ss have referred me counselling ..... Don't know if this is a good or bad thing ???? Probably try and use it against me. They know I haven't harmed her I can tell from the way they are with me. This is one of the scenarios you'll never think it'll happen to u until it does. After it's all settled if my babies come back (and i pray they do) I'll have to move out the area.. the hospital staff look at me in disgust it's not nice when you know you're innocent. Missed her first christmas

Seek legal advice OP. Are they new / old fractures? Caused during birth as your little one is so young? Do you fully trust DP when it comes down to it? Any twinges or 2nd thoughts think it through

Kaylax88 · 26/12/2017 21:21

It's an awful experience. I've got legal help but nobody to talk to that's why I came here for others opinions

Kaylax88 · 26/12/2017 21:23

I have had second thoughts about him just because if it isn't medical it could only be one of us and it 10000% isn't me so .... but until medical reports are back from independent people I don't want to make any accusations as it's not nice. It's bad enough already. Femur was a new fracture but ribs were old and growth palette of tibias were old. I have questioned if it could have happened inside me or at birth. She was born via c section don't know if that makes a difference

Sounds totally horrendous, just keep talking as it will help. Have you got older children too?

@momjeansep don’t think that is really helping?

LIZS · 26/12/2017 21:27

Has older child been checked for injuries?

momjeansep · 26/12/2017 21:28

A direct approach is often best.

Kaylax88 · 26/12/2017 21:30

Yea older one had to have full skeletal too. He has nothing

Are you in the UK or US? In the UK you may find better help from the Brittle bones society. To get a proper diagnosis you usually need a specialist and I think there ate only 4 centres in this country, it doesn't show up on a blood test. Dd1 and I have type 1 (mild) other symptoms can be easy bruising, hypermobility, heart shaped face, small, bow legged.

Kaylax88 · 26/12/2017 21:31

No momjeansp I defiantly ain't thank you
