DD injured foot - A&E?

Really hoping you all say no A&E as I'm completely alone with 3DC until tomorrow afternoon

DS1 opened a door on DD's toes, she screamed for a while but is now calm
A lot of skin has come off, there's blood everywhere and she's lost 2 toe nails
Got her soaking it in water atm so I can assess the damage and it's looking like she might lose another nail, it's completely black

I don't know what to do
Help?

Ps DD is 5, just in case it's relevant

I'd go get it checked out. Sorry. Children's a&e is usually great. Seen super fast and there's usually toys and telly for younger DC.

Ouch, that's very painful as I know from experience.
She really needs to be seen in A+E op and have it properly dressed.

I'd go to a minor injuries unit as opposed to A&E, they can x ray and everything there if they think she needs it. Much quicker too than going to the main hospital, so even though ours is 30 mins away, I am there and back before I imagine I'd even be seen in A&E

We don't have a minor injuries, it's A&E or nothing

She's refusing to bring it out of the water atm
I'm just making bottles and packing the babies bag

Why do these things never happen when I have back up?

I'd take her to a&e to get it looked at properly.

My DD trapped her little finger in the door last year, it needed stitches and the nail sewing back on. She also had to have a course of antibiotics to help stop any infection. Luckily no bones were broken, and it healed perfectly. I was worried as it looked pretty grim, especially when the dr was seeing the nail back on! 😷

Quite apart from anything I would have thought it will need dressing really well because of the risk of infection (children aren't as good at avoiding wounds getting dirty as adults).

This made me go ouch! (and sharp sucking in of breath). Your poor DD. I do think best to get it looked at though as it must have been quite an impact to take the nails off.

Your poor Dd yes these things always happen when there is nobody around to help out hope its just minor and heals quickly

Have you got electronic devices you can take with you? Or a friend who could look after the other two? Even if I only knew someone vaguely, I'd be happy to look after their kids for a couple of hours while they took one to A&E

Yes - I would as they will clean & dress it, if it was a week day the practice nurse may have been able to look at it first and advice, but these things never seem to happen 9-5 Mon-Fri!

Yes take her to A and E , the very same thing happened to my dd and it turned out she had a fractured toe (we would never have known without the x-ray because she was running around on it). Once the toenail lifts or is damaged you're very likely to get an infection too, or so we were told by the doctor.

Minor injuries would be more approprite

Ouch! Poor little thing. Definitely need a proper clean +/- decent dressing to prevent infection (I'd probably use an iodine dressing on em).

Ah-poor thing. Hope they can sort it quickly. Dd did similar to herself but not as bad-no blood so no sympathy () but her toenail came off a week or so later!

Ouch that sounds nasty. Hope they get it bandaged up and it heals soon.

Yes a&e. My dd1 jumped off the kitchen counter onto a broken mug she'd just knocked off. Foot cut open, blood everywhere. That was what decided it for me.
