White eye in a lot of photos??

Last night I took a few pics of my 11 month old. His right eye pupil looks red and normal. His left was showings a white reflection. So I took a lot more pics and it showed up in a lot more pics!!!! Now I am freaked out and I'm sitting here 5am worrying my self!! My dr surgery opens at 8:30am. Has anyone been through this???

You do need to see the doctor to make sure this isn't something serious, as I know it can be. But the same thing happened in photos of one of my grandchildren, and it turned out to be nothing at all - no explanation, and no problem. It must feel like ages till you can get him seen. Sending all good wishes and a hand-hold till then.

We had this - get a referral to a hospital eye consultant via your GP. We were being monitored anyway for birthmark related problems, it turned out to be nothing - just the direction of the flash. The consultant said 99% of cases were nothing to worry about, but the 1% he caught - the early the issue was spotted the better.

Hopefully, it will be ok - just better to get checked out.

Thanx everyone. My mum came over for chriamtas and I took a couple of photos then (Christmas Day) of my mum holding my baby and I thought I had seen it during the picture being taken but it did not show up on my pictures so did not think too much of it..... But now it has completely shown up so what ever it is is worse than a month ago. I do hope it's nothing at all and perhaps it's just my phone playing up or something. Yes it seams along time until I get him seen! How long do referrals take?

Hallo. Did you take the photos with a smartphone? Apparently there is a lot more white eye with these. I just had this with my 4 year old, and she had a normal red eye reaction at the doctors. It was just the phone. But going to get it checked is certainly the right thing to do.

I noticed this about my son not too long ago and like you worried.

I went up to my optiticions and showed him the photos. He checked ds eyes there and then. Turned out to be nothing just the flash on my iPhone. He said phone cameras are notorious for producing this effect but would rather check as it just takes a few minutes of his time to put everyone's mind at rest.

Can you call into your optiticion?

This happens to my DD, she was referred to the hospital and we were told it was just the flash hitting the eyes at different angles. It's always the same eye and only started when she was around 18mo so we did panic but one of her eyes is very very slightly turned, hardly enough to notice, and that's why the flash hits differently. Most of the time it's nothing, but always a good idea to get checked out. Have you got a digital camera you can try and take a few flash photos with?

Yea I took it on my phone but I have took a lot of pics of my other children with this phone and it hasn't happened before. But that does ease my mind a little! Yes I can call my opticans and see if they will see him. I don't have a camera as we always just use our phones to take pictures.

Ok so I just took some pics of him on the iPad and iPod and his white eye showed up on both of those so I know tbey are still not digital cameras but now I know it's not just my phone

Good luck! We were in your situation a month ago and it turned out to be nothing. Hope you're back on later saying the same, it is a worry.

Hi. The dr said he could not see anything abnormal and has no explication for the white eye. My health visitor came over and I told her all about it and she asked to see all the pics (there are 47) and I showed her and she has refered him for another test in a couple of weeks by a specialist. So I feel a little more relaxed now still confused as to why so many pics and why never beofre? And why only that one eye....... But like the dr said nothing seams abnormal

While you wait for the specialist appt you could get an optometrist appointment so they could have a look? They may have the equipment to see more than a gp.

I had this when my DD was 6 weeks old, I took her to the optician on the advice of someone (GP or HV, I can't remember) and they couldn't see anything wrong. Apparently it's something to do with the way their eyes are shaped at that age, likely to be nothing but worth checking out.
Try not to panic, it's such a horrible feeling

You need someone to properly look in eyes that's specialist. Maybe optician? Worst case is Retinoblastoma which if caught quickly can be treated really well. I have close hand experience of this. The photos didn't show up as different until just a few days before diagnosis.

Child hood eye cancer trust are amazing. Google them for advice on who to get to check.

They might say gp looking is fine.
