Not chickenpox so what could it be?

3 yr old DS has got spots on his torso that at first I thought were insect bites but some have now blistered and gone scabby. He's had chicken pox properly as a baby then again (I think!) a year or so ago so I really don't think it can be that. Plus no other signs of illness.

Amy ideas??

The spots seem a bit drier and scabies rather than blister-like, if that helps.

Chicken pox. If he's had it twice before then it sounds like he's not building immunity. Sounds like he's a carrier.

Water warts (molescum ...i think?) Highly infectious .... yellow puss ...you need anti bacterial soap and keep covered .. can last 4 years .. but soap gets rid in 4 months. Look it up and ill find u the name of the soap.

Molluscum could well be right. Pain in ass but in no way dangerous. If it is, something called Molludab meant be be effective. Very keen to know what the soap is that momtothree recommends.

Found it. £4 ish on amazon. Quick rinse at the end of the bath.

Uk doctors dont give you anything, but US recommends it as effective. You`re welcome.

Thanks. Looked up molluscum pics online but it doesn't really look like that. Think I'll take him to the GP in the morning as he's due to go to nursery and I think that's probably not the best idea until we work out what it is. Aargh. Although GPs don't want to see Chicken pox do they?

Could be impetigo maybe? That can present a few different odd blistery scabby rashes. I'd check with the GP!

Hand, foot and mouth? It's almost indistinguishable from chicken pox; generally the spots are more on the torso with CP and on the extremities and mouth with HFM but it's not always obvious which it is. Plus you can have HFM more than once, so one (or both!) of his previous doses may have been HFM.

DS has this too- only 9 spots and I've assumed chickenpox.

I haven't been to the GP thinking it's contagious and he doesn't seem ill either but should I? He had CP as a baby

Hand, foot and mouth? DS has come down with it and it started by a couple of spots on his chest. Then cold symptoms and a raging temperature. Then nothing but a couple of mouth ulcers and then the rash. Nothing serious but a real PITA.

I don't think it is with us as DS hasn't had any hint of fever or not being well. And the spots look just like when they had chicken box but fewer - eg 2 next to each other on a leg, 2 on face, 2 on an arm...

You are all better than NHS direct who I always forget I can ring Grin. Thank you for your help too and didn't mean to take over op's thread.
It's quite balanced so both sides but spots very sparse and start healing after 24 hours (so maybe quicker than I remember)

There are only 2 lots of 2 spots and the rest individual. I will look up shingles as that's interesting, I associated it with older people and don't know much. DS is 4.

Nothing is painful or itchy though and DS has been feeling well all the time which is why I've just isolated him and not been to GP who books weeks ahead

Pancakes, you've not hijacked at all as you DS's symptoms sound identical to my DS. It's weird isn't it? He has about 10 spots, all dried up now. They look a bit like insect bites which he has scratched as they seemed to go straight from the spots stage to a scab, with no noticeable blistering.

Yes very odd. DS's spots heal so fast and easily he hasn't noticed or scratched them so he's only noticing being in isolation which is a shame when he feels well!

If he had chickenpox as a baby he will likely to get it again and he is more likely to get shingles as a child.

Are they sort of in a line

When i had shingles they were in a circle

They normally follow the line of a nerve so ds's shingles were in a line around the right side of his torso under his arm
