Not chickenpox so what could it be?

3 yr old DS has got spots on his torso that at first I thought were insect bites but some have now blistered and gone scabby. He's had chicken pox properly as a baby then again (I think!) a year or so ago so I really don't think it can be that. Plus no other signs of illness.

Amy ideas??

The spots seem a bit drier and scabies rather than blister-like, if that helps.

Def go to the chemist. Stuff like that is part of their role. If they don't know then they will send you to the right place, great way of getting where you need to be without wasting anybody's time.

When ds had scarlet fever it started out looking a bite like chicken pox. So there is another thing to add to the possible list, really could be anything so go see someone who knows!

argh, thanks to this thread I now think DS has molluscum contagiosum. I thought he had a wart until now, argh. Both hard to treat, I suppose. grrr

I would Say could be scabies. It's very hard to diagnose and can look different in different people. Is it itchy at night? It's catching so if someone else in the family gets a similar rash / spots you might have it.

DD2 at 6-7 got what the doctor thought was probably shingles (had chickenpox when she was 4-5) - apparently in children it is nothing like in adults - not painful etc. She didn't need medicine and it didn't last long. Attached a photo - they look like pimples but in real life they looked more like blisters.

Oh and this is when they first appeared, they did get scabby and that's towards the bottom of her ribs

My son has been off all week with slap cheek (parvovirus) very similar to chicken pox

My DD had very mild chicken pox at 18 months, then at 4 she had shingles, just a few spots as in the picture in a line on her torso. She was not unwell and the spots went away in a few days. No treatment needed.
