Waterproof pants for my bed wetting 5 yo

Hi we are taking dd (5) away for a few nights soon. She is still very very wet at night and I'm going to discuss this issue with my doc today. Anyway, in the mean time, would any of you have any recommendations for waterproof pants for over her pull up? She is sodden every morning, her bed too. I don't want her wetting the bed abroad if i can help it.

If she is wetting through pull ups, could you lift her for a wee when you go to bed and slip fresh ones on at the same time?

I do know lifting isn't recommended for getting them dry, but to save a hotel bed I think it would be ok.
I think locking all that moisture next to her skin could make her quite sore, and pretty uncomfortable if you're going somewhere hot.

Nappies? Far better than pull ups, mine were in then til nearly 7 and rearely leaked.

Fwiw a dr. wont do anything about bed wetting until she's at least 7 or 8. It's a physiological event that requires a certain hormone and feedback mechanism to be present. Until that kicks in she won't be dry.

Do yourself a favour and find something so she doesn't have to wake up to a wet bed, and you don't have to wash bedding every day.

Thank you for your reply. I will look that website up. We do lift her for a wee when we go to bed but quite often her pull up is dry still at 11pm. She must do the bulk of her weeing in the early hours!

Thank you micah. I put her in one of her sister's nappies one evening as we had run out of pull ups and she was absolutely devastated! She felt like a baby so dh went out and got pull ups in the end for her, she was that traumatised! Im even considering two pull ups but she will be so hot at night!

Not pants but dd has one of these on her bed and they're brilliant. Our GP did refer us when she was 5 and since she turned 6 she's been on desmopressin which has been really effective, she's gone from needing pull-ups to I would guess one accident a month.

Thank you flipflopwaddle. I might just invest in one of these. I'll be sharing a double bed with her so really don't want to wake up in a puddle either!

I will whereisegg thank you, i will. She's gone off to the doc now with dh. Feel sorry for her in a way. I think her 2 year old sister will be dry before she is Sad

My older dd was dry at night very early, so we were just stumped with ds!
We bought an alarm in the end, it seemed to do bugger all, but we are about 6 weeks dry now Smile

My lovely but dopey dh decided not to mention it to the doctor!?!! Go figure?! Now in fairness he was taking her for a number of matters (blocked ear, dermatitis etc) and because they were in there over half an hour, he decided not to bother mentioning her night wetness grrrr!

Last night was particularly bad. I lifted her for a wee at mignight and she was already soaked through, her bed had to be stripped too Sad. I changed her pull up and this morning her second pull up was also full.

For our holiday ( short term thinking) im thinking of getting one of those inflatable single beds, just so i dont get soaked myself and i can wipe it down in the mornings and quickly bundle any wet sheets straight into the washing machine (staying at a friend's villa).

I was looking at the other thread. Am considering an alarm in the longer term. Although she practically goes into a coma when she goes asleep Confused she may not hear it!?!

As you probably saw in my thread, ds slept through his first alarms, and nothing seemed to be happening at all, but he is still dry now, 6 weeks I think it is!
For the sake of £30, it was well worth it to us Smile

A bit late now for many, but you could ask your school to put you in touch with the school nurse if your dd hasn't finished yet, lots on my thread found that very helpful.

hi just to say that i have found with my nearly 6 year old that 2 pullups works in this emergency situation - i use his normal one, and add a larger size over the top. i don't think he gets too hot, might be worth a try.

Thanks ladies, no nurse at dd's school (we're not in the uk) but next time she needs the doctor i am taking her!!! Dh is too considerate of the doctor's time i think!!
I think the alarm i was looking at online was big money (over €100) May i ask which alarm you are using whereisegg? It is clearly working. You must be thrilled to have 6 weeks of dryness under your belt now. The longer it goes on, the less likely a relapse will occur i think! Bet your ds is so proud of himself Grin It must do wonders for their confidence.

If id known what lay ahead I'd have bought a washing machine with a bigger drum to fit dd's duvet in!!

Mcmorton thank you and i will try this but I'm a bit reluctant to double up on pulls ups at the mo because dd has a rash which isn't clearing around her bum both front and back and im betting its because she wears a pull up at night so the area stays warm and damp Sad

If she has a rash, plastic waterproof pants will make it much much worse

Yea you're right anyfucker. I was just thinking if the 3 nights we're away rather than every night, but yea with the heat etc it could really flare up.
I think an inflatable bed for our holiday in the short term and then the alarm for the longer term.

Has anybody mentioned those mats you use for training puppies ? i think they are mega absorbent. Put one of those under the sheet ?

Perhaps get her wee dipped before you go away to check she doesn't have a water infection ?

Thank you ladies. On top of her mattress i have a shower curtain, followed by a waterproof mattress protector followed by her bed sheet! So the mattress is well protected ha! but her duvet and pillow get soaked too!! It's actually like she wees more at night than during the day Confused. Im clearly doing something wrong here.. She is prone to uti's...

Oh gosh, that is a lot of plastic materials under her bum. Could it be too much do you think ? (in view of the rash)

Maybe anyfucker, never thought of all the plastic making her more rashy. She is having a renal scan late september due to several uti's, two of which have had her in a&e
