DS still asleep, what to do?

DS is 15 months, been generally a bit grumpy for a week. Last night he was especially grumpy so calpol'ed him at put him to bed, he had a slight temperature. He hasnt woken since.

Waiting for an "urgent" call from GP nurse which will be this afternoon or possibly this evening.

Nothing specific, slight temp, was occasionally pulling at ears, decreased appetite. But he's completely un rousable, changed nappy with DD1 and 2 in the room jumping about and he just slept. He obviously is responsive because I've got a few oz of water into him and nurophen in him. But I cant wake him any more than that. So he's been asleep for 17 hours looks poorly but not collapsed. Occasional small cry but by the time I've got to his door he's asleep again.

So MNers should I call the GPs again, NHS direct or am I just wittling about nothing and let him sleep it off. DD2 has complex medical needs and I'm always on the ball with her getting her seen as appropriate. But a normal "abit unwell and sleeping child" has completely thrown me.

Good news Clutching - have been logging on and hoping. I can just about imagine how surreal it all seems, but you sound like you are doing an amazing job. Much love to all x

charitymum · 23/01/2013 21:36

Clutching great news. Your children sound remarkably lucky to have you.
Hugs.

QOD · 23/01/2013 21:48

That's wonderful news!!

So so happy, and so so wish him a full recovery xx

Although my neice hasn't, I have to reconfirm that she is a happy girl, she has a full life, just not quite the one she would have had.

redwellybluewelly · 23/01/2013 22:03

Ive just seen the update, slow and steady progress is great, think of it as bringing up a really big computer.

Im shocked by the impact of CP I really am, I did know of the complications but thought it only occurred after severe infections.

The baby brain is much more plastic thanan older child or an aadult. It keeps making new connections all the time, I love neuroplasticity. My dd has a brain injury (from birth) but she has to date proved she can do anything she set her mind too, just takes time.

HildaOgden · 23/01/2013 23:30

I'm so glad to read the update, and hope he continues to improve.I'm really impressed by your attitude, you're brilliant to be coping as well as you are in such a stressful situation.

If there is anything we can do to help, you will let us know, won't you? We're all rooting for the little man x

Children are such resilient little beings and he sounds determined to do things himself, hopefully in time he will make lots of new neuron connections and make a full recovery.

You are in my thoughts and prayers x

Poor baby. Thank goodness you did the right thing and he is in the best possible place. Agree with others to definitely complain re surgery when you are all safely on the other side of this. Thinking of you all xx

Hi, just a quick update, DS is due home tonight Smile Smile Smile

He's had a few mornings/afternoons with us at home recently but this will be his first time sleeping here and not having to go back in a few hours. God I'm so nervous. The hospital has arranged lots of support for us and we have been referred for lots of specialist care at home but the just having him home me, DDs and him, no call button or anyone else to check on him as pertrifying.

He's still non-vocal and isn't able to sit unaided but can roll himself from his front to his back. He sleeps so often and has a feeding tube but smiles and has better control over his arms now.

We are so so lucky to have him back with us so soon after he got ill. He's been through so much and I'm so pleased we have got to this stage, feels like things might be starting to get back to normal. Can't wait to see him in his own cot tonight.

Thank you Thanks Thanks all for your support, kindness, thoughts and prayers. I've just about got through this but without MN and your time you took to post, I'm not sure I would of and I'm not sure I would have DS home tonight or even ever. Please warn others of how evil chicken pox can be, please tell them to wake a sleepy child, if they are just sick they will soon go back to sleep, wake them just to check. I fear I will be going in to poke DS every hour just to check he's really here and really ok.

This last month has been horrid, but thankfully I will have my little brood all home and tucked into their beds tonight. DS with his wooly hug, our little reminder of how wonderful everyone on this thread has been. Thanks Thanks Thanks

Thank you, every single poster, thank you Thanks Thanks
