DS still asleep, what to do?

ClutchingPearls · 02/01/2013 13:18

DS is 15 months, been generally a bit grumpy for a week. Last night he was especially grumpy so calpol'ed him at put him to bed, he had a slight temperature. He hasnt woken since.

Waiting for an "urgent" call from GP nurse which will be this afternoon or possibly this evening.

Nothing specific, slight temp, was occasionally pulling at ears, decreased appetite. But he's completely un rousable, changed nappy with DD1 and 2 in the room jumping about and he just slept. He obviously is responsive because I've got a few oz of water into him and nurophen in him. But I cant wake him any more than that. So he's been asleep for 17 hours looks poorly but not collapsed. Occasional small cry but by the time I've got to his door he's asleep again.

So MNers should I call the GPs again, NHS direct or am I just wittling about nothing and let him sleep it off. DD2 has complex medical needs and I'm always on the ball with her getting her seen as appropriate. But a normal "abit unwell and sleeping child" has completely thrown me.

Glad the hospital are looking after him. Hopefully, the increased dose will help stop the swelling. As a confirmed flirt, he'll be trying to impress the nurses. Glad your DD are coping ok and I really hope you get your much needed sleep.

Tallgiraffe · 05/01/2013 02:27

Glad to hear the hospital are happy with his progress. Please try and get some sleep, hard as it is, you need energy to cope with all this. Really hope you have some RL help for your other children. And let them live off pizza and chocolate for a few days, they won't come to any harm!

KateUnrulyBush · 05/01/2013 04:25

Thinking of you Pearls, hope your ds is better very soon, that first cuddle after he wakes up will be amazing x

marcopront · 05/01/2013 06:05

Could you ask a friend or relative to let people in real life know what is happening and direct all questions to them. They could then pass all messages on to you when you are ready.

SuiGeneris · 05/01/2013 08:23

Wishing you all the best. I hope you had a rest overnight and that today brings good news.

OhThisIsJustGrape · 05/01/2013 08:44

Just read while thread - so glad you called that ambulance. Children can go downhill so very fast, but on the flip side they can pick up very quickly too so fingers crossed he will turn a corner soon.

You will be very much in my thoughts today, hoping for a positive update later Smile Look after yourself, I know that's so very hard to do but all your children need you as fit and well as possible to get them through this.

Are there any MN near you who could help with lifts etc? I'm in Norfolk if that's any use x

thegreylady · 05/01/2013 08:45

Still thinking of you and thank you again for updating. I never realised chicken pox could be so dangerous. Remember to take care of yourself too.

Sugarice · 05/01/2013 09:18

Still thinking of you and your family Smile.

Do try to get some well earned sleep.

Purplehonesty · 05/01/2013 09:38

Sending best wishes and hugs to you all and hoping ds will be okay
Hope you had a good nights sleep

Bearandcub · 05/01/2013 09:42

Wishing you all the best

Four4me · 05/01/2013 10:06

Hope you managed to get some rest and that the increased dose of steroids get the swelling down. Enjoy the fresh air at the park with your dd's.

Continuing to think of you. X

PacificDogwood · 05/01/2013 10:14

Boo to swelling not having gone down yet and to your exhaustion.
He IS in the best and safest place, so please do prioritise yourself for a little while. Get sleep. And don't forget to eat and drink. Have a long bath. Accept each and every offer of help. Give people specific tasks: 'yes, please, could you take my laundry?'

Of course your DD will be fine - you are right, at that age, at any age, chocolate goes a long way to make life better. Have some yourself.

Isn't it stange and scary and inexplicable how most children including your DS's sisters have 'normal' CP, and some poor wee souls get so much iller from the same bug?

Sending you much love and strength again.

Lollybrolly · 05/01/2013 10:17

Thanks for the update.

Hope you caught up on some much needed sleep last night.

Hope the swelling starts to reduce soon. Keeping everything crossed for you x

MurderOfGoths · 05/01/2013 10:28

Hope you've managed to get some rest x

Thinkingof4 · 05/01/2013 10:31

clutching thanks for updating again esp when you are so tired. I really hope you got some sleep last night, and try to get some fresh air maybe with the girls today

FourArms · 05/01/2013 10:51

Thinking of you all.

Had a similar experience with DS1 being more sleepy than usual for a week. Three GP appts & 1 Consultant appt (for something unrelated) all said he was fine. In the Sunday my aunt said to take him to A&E (she's a nurse). We felt like we were massively overreacting. Turned out his oxygen saturation was terrible & he was severely dehydrated with a massive chest infection. Ended up being blue lighted to a Children's hospital. :( Very scary, but he's fine now.

Hoping that you DS shows some improvement today x

yfuwchhapus · 05/01/2013 10:53

Thinking of you.

CheckpointCharlie · 05/01/2013 10:55

Seconding the offer to help if I am near, am in cambs.

My dd was in hospital last year and I know the bone draining fear and exhaustion you are feeling.
It does sound positive, especially as they are talking about Monday as a day for them to stop the steroids. We are all thinking of you and your family.

Find someone to go and hug, and here is a massive squeezy one from me

((((((((((hug)))))))))))

Feelingood · 05/01/2013 11:19
