DS still asleep, what to do?

ClutchingPearls · 02/01/2013 13:18

DS is 15 months, been generally a bit grumpy for a week. Last night he was especially grumpy so calpol'ed him at put him to bed, he had a slight temperature. He hasnt woken since.

Waiting for an "urgent" call from GP nurse which will be this afternoon or possibly this evening.

Nothing specific, slight temp, was occasionally pulling at ears, decreased appetite. But he's completely un rousable, changed nappy with DD1 and 2 in the room jumping about and he just slept. He obviously is responsive because I've got a few oz of water into him and nurophen in him. But I cant wake him any more than that. So he's been asleep for 17 hours looks poorly but not collapsed. Occasional small cry but by the time I've got to his door he's asleep again.

So MNers should I call the GPs again, NHS direct or am I just wittling about nothing and let him sleep it off. DD2 has complex medical needs and I'm always on the ball with her getting her seen as appropriate. But a normal "abit unwell and sleeping child" has completely thrown me.

Sending love and light to clutching and miniclutching

Don't forget to look after yourself too.x

MonetsGardens · 04/01/2013 17:54

So glad that things seem to be improving - my DD was seriously ill with complications caused by CP in her lungs. She had no underlying health problems - now fully recovered but an awful time for everyone.

Please folks - don't be blase about CP.

OP hope you are home with your little boy really soon.

Frikadellen · 04/01/2013 19:17

Checked in to see if there was an update pleased to see he is getting such good care..

Pinot · 04/01/2013 19:26

SlinkyB · 04/01/2013 22:32

PacificDogwood · 04/01/2013 22:36

Sending you best wishes and strength, Clutching. I hope today was a good day.

QOD · 04/01/2013 22:46

I'm so happy that he seems to be ok, chicken pox is not to be sniffed at!
Only today I had to yet again mention my nieces terrible response to c p when someone wanted to take their pox'd child out.

Poor wee man!
Waiting for updates when you can.

Have your other DC had the pox?

OscarPistoriusBitontheside · 04/01/2013 22:51

Just popping in to see how mini clutching is.

People need to be more aware of how horrid cp can be. Some people are utterly blasé about it/ think it's not their problem to keep away from well people.

Smellslikecatspee · 04/01/2013 22:52

Have lit another candle for you.

BubblesAndBeans · 04/01/2013 23:09

clutching so very pleased to hear your ds is getting better and that he is receiving such good care. Wishing you the very best.

Stixswhichtwizzle · 04/01/2013 23:10

Just popping in to see how things are going. As someone already posted, I hope you're remembering to look after yourself too. Thinking of you both.

TequilaMockinBird · 04/01/2013 23:33

Oh gosh, just seen this thread, what a shock for you OP.

How is he today? Thinking of you.

ClutchingPearls · 05/01/2013 00:56

Hi everyone once again thanks for all your kind comments.

DS swelling hasn't reduced yet and still very slightly increasing so they have upped his steroids and that should help. He's still sedated, earliest they will look at stopping that is Monday so just need to keep on until then. Scan tomorrow to check again so fingers crossed. In himself he seems comfortable and relaxed. Nurses are happy with him and say he's not caused them any problems, which is typical DS, getting the girls on side.

I'm absolutely shattered, feeling so drained today, no energy to really talk to anyone properly. Think I've spend most of the day crying. A put a salt sachet in my tea today and that sent me into sobbing, just can't seem to get a grip.

DDs luckily had CP before Christmas so they are fine, going to try and get them out to the park tomorrow to give them a bit of normality. They have been spoilt rotten the last few days, all kinds of sweets and chocolates, going to pizza hut. So they are ok, obviously they know something's up with their little brother, but at 3 and 5 chocolate solves everything.

Not really slept since it happened so off for a bath and hopefully some sleep. Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts, prayers and support. You all know what's going on so its far easier to update you guys than have to explain everything to another person in RL. Reading your comments has helped comfort me even though I haven't replied.

I am.glad he is comfortable and sending 'swelling go.down vibes'. Fingers crossed the steroids do.the trick.

Much love and strength to you all xx

HildaOgden · 05/01/2013 01:03

You poor thing, you must be wrecked! The hot bath and some sleep will do you the world of good, give you the strength to carry on.

The hospital seem to be on the ball with him, they don't seem overly concerned so take some comfort from that. He's in the very best place to get this sorted.

Hopefully before long he will shake this off and be back home (and being spoiled rotten!!!)

Mind yourself,Clutching,a hospital bedside is the most draining place in the world.

Huge hugs and support to you, hope this all passes soon x

cafecito · 05/01/2013 01:04

Sedtion and intubation is the best current method used for neuroprotection and it sounds like they are keeping a very close eye on him which is good. I can only echo others and say we're all here for you, and are all thinking of you. You will feel like a zombie for a good wihle, it's an utter absolute devastating shock and an ongoing massive concern, don't expect to feel normal. Try and get some time away from the hospital if you can, just to clear your head. Taking the girls to the park would be really good even if just for some fresh air. Remember, you need your rest too or you won't be any use to DS- they will call you if there's any problem, so rest while you can. Once he's a bit better he will need you all the time so you need to fully charge up your batteries. x

gussiegrips · 05/01/2013 01:08

Buggrit, clutching, I do get the feeling of gratitude of nothavingtoexplain.

We are thinking of you.

He'll be ok, with steroids fighting a viral induced swelling, there is not really any other outcome.

As a confirmed flirt, he'll go far.

get some rest, and a good, let loose cry. Works for me.

And, then, hang in there, with all the other mothers in the same but often worse boat that you are in.

Don't tell anyone, but I'm sending you a glass, in fact, a bottle of pinot grigio a

FadBook · 05/01/2013 01:13

Ditto Hilda and cafe

As for your other dc, they'll be fine. A bit of pizza & chocolate isn't going to harm them. Can someone in RL take them to the park for an hour while you catch a breath on your own? If you're in North Staffs or south Cheshire, I'll take your dc's to the park with my little one? Serious offer.

We're all here for you Clutching. Get some sleep. Your ds is in the right place with the right people around him. Night night.

BluelightsAndSirens · 05/01/2013 01:15

Great news and glad we are sill helping x

BeaWheesht · 05/01/2013 01:26

Hope steroids kick in soon.

Wishing you plenty of sleep , look after yourself as well As everyone else.

HeeBeeGeebies · 05/01/2013 01:40
