DS still asleep, what to do?

ClutchingPearls · 02/01/2013 13:18

DS is 15 months, been generally a bit grumpy for a week. Last night he was especially grumpy so calpol'ed him at put him to bed, he had a slight temperature. He hasnt woken since.

Waiting for an "urgent" call from GP nurse which will be this afternoon or possibly this evening.

Nothing specific, slight temp, was occasionally pulling at ears, decreased appetite. But he's completely un rousable, changed nappy with DD1 and 2 in the room jumping about and he just slept. He obviously is responsive because I've got a few oz of water into him and nurophen in him. But I cant wake him any more than that. So he's been asleep for 17 hours looks poorly but not collapsed. Occasional small cry but by the time I've got to his door he's asleep again.

So MNers should I call the GPs again, NHS direct or am I just wittling about nothing and let him sleep it off. DD2 has complex medical needs and I'm always on the ball with her getting her seen as appropriate. But a normal "abit unwell and sleeping child" has completely thrown me.

I know what you meant Zebra.

ZebraInHiding · 02/01/2013 22:20

I will report and get it deleted.

Djembe · 02/01/2013 22:27

Adding my best wishes OP, stay strong x

BluelightsAndSirens · 02/01/2013 22:27

I don't think you need to report anything zebra

It is amazing that clutching doubted her own thoughts and thankfully posted here, she received support and guidance into dong the right thing without one post telling her to get off MN and dial 999 or questioning why she was wasting time here when she should be with her child.

That is a pat on the back for MN that there are people here that are willing to help and guide, I must admit to being frustrated reading clutching was hesitating on dialling 999 when my whole instinct was shouting "get a fucking ambulance you womble"

So yes well done *clutching for trusting your instincts and posting, well done all that advised 999 and other helpful replies and yes, an amazing thread that I hope helps some one else when faced with an out of the norm scenario, who knows they may just remember this thread and act accordingly.

magicOC · 02/01/2013 22:33

Another one who is sending get well soon wishes to your little one OP. Very frightening time for you and i'm pleased you are having RL support with your other children.

Whoever took the call at the GP surgery needs a good talking too, but, I noticed a few posters blaming the GP. Who's to say the call/message was ever transferred on from the initial call?

Zebra, I understood what you were trying to say too and didn't see any harm in it.

OliviaPeaceOnMumsnet · 02/01/2013 22:34

@BluelightsAndSirens

I don't think you need to report anything zebra

Yes, we'll leave this one.

Sending all best wishes to your DS from HQ, OP

Gosh hoping that your little one is ok. How scary x
Good luck, hope he is improving x

BartletForTeamGB · 02/01/2013 22:53

Completely agree with the MNHQ decision. "I'm not being rude but" is so often the start of saying something rude to something! I am just very glad that the OP took on board the MN collective advice and that her DS is in the right place now.

Get well soon, lad! And sending big hugs to the OP. This must be terrifying to watch so I hope the doctors and nurses are able to reassure you and that you can also get some rest tonight.

EllenJaneisstillnotmyname · 02/01/2013 22:55

Hope he's doing well, OP. I'm sure lots of us can relate to almost needing permission from someone to call 999. So glad you posted here. (((hugs)))

RubyrooUK · 02/01/2013 22:57

So glad your son is in hospital and will be thinking of you. I remember when my own DS was rushed to hospital and given a lumbar puncture. It's very scary but I hope he will be fine now. X

StopEatingThatMud · 02/01/2013 22:58

Goodness OP, best wishes for your DS, I hope he's on the mend soon and you and the rest of the family are ok.

I had no idea chicken pox could be so nasty, yikes.

DontYouJingleMyChristingle · 02/01/2013 23:22

Only just read this now.

Sending my best wishes for your ds, so glad you trusted your instincts and that you received the correct advice on here.

Shock at the gp surgery, either the practice manager or designated complaints manager should be informed once your son has recovered.

ChasedByBees · 03/01/2013 00:28

Sending get well thoughts, I hope your DS picks up soon x

MrsMushroom · 03/01/2013 00:51
