Joe vs. The Cancer

TrazzleMISTLEtoes · 08/12/2012 23:26

My 3 year old DS, Joseph was diagnosed with the cancer Neuroblastoma in October.

Survival rates are approximately 1 in 3.

He's coming to the end of chemo and so far, chemo is kicking cancer's butt. 3 cheers.

Oh bless him, sounds like my ds4 who is 4 and sucks his thimb, only the one thumb and with the cold weather it got sore and he was most upset.

Oh I know about the one-thumb-only thing - I was the same, and so is DS1 (R thumb)! Funnily, DS2 has just found his thumb but he's gone for the other one. The other one never tasted right, somehow...
Perhaps a toy of some kind? Washable?

Great news that he wanted to play! Smile

But sorry to hear that he cannot suck his thumb and that he doesn't want to consider the other one or any combination of fingers for that matter to give him some comfort. I hope it heals soon.

Very sorry to hear he is still so poorly. I hope the doctors can work out what is going on. Hopefully the antibiotics do the trick and he will start improving soon.

All the Trazzles must feel so exhausted, such a roller coaster ride you are all on.

Sending you lots of positive thoughts and energy to cope with all the stress.

Such a roller coaster from hour to hour. I hope Joe's bp remains stable and his thumb heals so he can get back to sucking it. Poor little mite. Xxxx

Poor old Joe, poor you and his poor thumb. He's in the right place - everything is crossed for you.

How wonderful that you got kisses, cuddles AND dominoes Grin
Sad About the thumb though, I hope it heals quickly.

I've had experience of the green vomit this week too: my dad had surgery on Tuesday and has been very poorly since. The doctors and nurses haven't left him alone in their quest to settle his tummy, he has had blood in the green vomit too.
Obviously he's no where near as ill as Joe but it's been very worrying, I am multiplying that worry by 1000s to try and understand how you must be feeling.

I hope this is the corner that Joe has now turned xxx

Trazzle,

as an inveterate thumbsucker, I trained myself off it by the following, which gives you almost the same feeling of comfort, you put your thumb under your chin and your index finger alongside your nose, so your chin is resting in the curve created by the thumb and index finger. If you can show him, I think he might find it a reasonable thumb substitute. I've trained several children in this now.

V sorry about the bp and thank heavens he is where he is. I hope tonight is better.

Delurking, I've spent a lot of time checking your thread and thinking about you.

I have my fingers crossed you're all doing ok.

Have been thinking about you a lot. I realised recently that you are a friend of a friend and we have sons of just the same age. Delurking just to say that I am thinking about you and Joe every day and wishing you every best best wish. I do hope that Joe starts to feel better every day. Very soon. x

Just checking in and see it's been a rough couple of days. More days done though. You're getting through this. Joe is getting through this. Just keep swimming Smile

Ooooooh Savoir my curiosity is piqued! Seriously you have to PM me!

Quick update. DH is in again tonight and reports Joe's BP is on the low side but apparently that now seems normal when he's asleep.

J is very settled so far. His white cells are on the up and that is the crucial thing. That is (obviously!) what will help him to fight all this so we are really pleased about that.

I'm stuffing my face with chocolate and off to bed shortly. Thank you all so incredibly much for your thoughts, prayers and hand-holding overnight and today. It has been a massive comfort.

Onwards and upwards!

ninja I cried when I got a hug! It was so wonderful to feel his little arms around me. He said he'd missed me (overnight) and I thought: not as much as I've missed you sweetie!

Trazzle hooray for hugs and dominoes!! Have been thinking of you and praying.

My DCs have had a vomiting bug (as have I and DH but we're big and ugly enough to look after ourselves!) and it hit me in the middle of the night when I was feeling sorry for myself, it's nothing to what Joe and all the Trazzles are going through at the moment. Lots of hugs.
