Bulge in neck when laughing or crying

I have noticed a soft lump in my DS's neck. It only pops out when he is laughing, crying or shouting. Right side of his neck just above the collar bone. It's not hard at all and about 5 cm long. completely disappears when he is calm.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Yes. Both my boys have this.

A few years ago A friend noticed it in DS1( now 7) and told me she had taken her daughter to see the Dr for the same thing and not to worry. So I haven't.

But reads with interest...

Oh ours is not that long about 1 cm. Pops up in tantrums .

How old was your DS when you first noticed it?
I will take him to dr next week just to check it out since it's quite big.

I think my DS1 must have been about 2 yrs old, maybe a little younger. Deffo walking/running about.

And my DS2 was about 3 yrs old when I noticed. It's on the left hand side for both of them.

As you say it's not noticeable until laughing or crying or ranting.
Let me know what the Dr says will you? PM me if you don't want to put it in the thread cos I would be very interested. But hope they say it's one of those things...

My 6 month old ds has the same thing, tbh I've always thought it was normal.

is it not just the jugular vein? would be prominent when chold exerts itself. ..crying...running. ..etc?

This is my 6 month olds, sorry it's not the best.
I can still see his when breathing as well, but more prominent when crying crying\laughing getting stressed.

Hi... Same thing... Nobody has any idea what this is, Dr says nothing to worry and refuses to give referral for any test such as so ogram of the vein to see if there is any blockege 🤷‍♀️... Was told by Dr its common but can't point the reason (I guess it's time for yet another Dr... But at this point I loose confidence in them).. So if anyone has any info please, please share... Thank you

Hi, how did the ultrasound go? My daughter (4) has similar bulging when she cries. She had ultrasound yesterday and it turns out she has jugular vein dialation. Dr referred her to a cardiologist. I am scared.

Hi my daughter has this on her neck aswell. I visited the GP in July who referred us to hospital. We have a appointment end of November. Feel free to message me I too have been worrying.

Can you tell me what is the reason diagnosed for this problem in your child..?? As my daughter also has the same but doctor said its normal because she is weak

Hi, I stumbled across this thread and wanted to put in some insight...
I have these little bulges in my neck veins and they look just like the picture posted. I’m 25 and my dad is 50 and also has them. My dad always told me they were normal and my doctor did as well. I haven’t asked a doctor about them in awhile but am curious to know what they would say if I went now that I’m older.
I honestly believe they are nothing to worry about (I’ve always been told I’m healthy) but they are definitely not pretty. Especially when you’re angry!

I’m just now noticing it on my 2 year old it the middle of her between collarbone of that make sense.. creeped me out!

My 6 years old son has a popping out vein on the ridge side of his neck
It only comes out when he is talking
It disappears when not talking
He has this since he was very little , I always thought it was just a normal vein but lately I started worrying
We have been Referred to Pediatrics for August . I sent a photo of his neck to his gp . He said it looks like jugular vein distention
I am worried and the appointment is only after 3 months

Hi did anyone find out what this is? My 3 year old son gets it too and can’t seem to find no definite answer. We did a ultrasound at the gp, doctor said lymph node but it seems to me to be more linked with the vein too

Hi, this is the closest I can find to what my daughter also has now, a 3cm bulge that pops out "like a frog" whenever she shouts, cries etc. Did anyone have any joy with the drs and diagnosis? She has had it since birth, the GP said she'd grow out of it.
