Dd has Itchy bum in the evening. Worms?

started yesterday, really bad. I'm assuming it's worms. She's 10yo so I don't really get to see her poo, she says she hasn't seen anything odd in her poo. Anyway I gave her ovex tablet last night and it took her ages to go to sleep as it was so bad.
She's been fine today but now it's started again. Does the ovex not work straight away? Or might it be something else, she's crying it's that bad. I've had a look at her bum and can't see anything, it's not red, nor any signs of worms.

I find it takes 1-3 days to work. One of mine it works by the next night, another takes all of 3 days. I put some thick cream (sudocream works very well) round the bottom area where they are come out which soothes the bottom and stops them coming out and laying eggs.

My daughter used to get worms a few times. In the end she used to know exactly when they were there, even if I couldn't see them, they usually went for a little wander and I would get them from there. Very elegant job it was!

I've put sudocrme and a pair of knickers on her. Do I need to Sellotape her bum hole up as well? How far do they wander?

DeWe, wish I had known about the sudocream trick. Woman in Boots told us to get to put on clean pants on at bed time so she wasn't reinfecting herself from pyjama bottoms. She also said the powder we got from the doctor to add to a drink (that she threw up!) only stuns the worms and doesn't kill them!

I actually did have a nosy once and saw them actually coming out
I will never forget that sight. If my DD now 14 knew I was airing and sharing that piece of info she would be very grumpy. She was about 4 then...
In my experience Ovex takes 12 hours to work maybe

RatherBeOnThePiste, think my daughter would be mortified too! She used to give me a nod to get me to go and check, and she would get in 'position', and me armed with a tissue!

Oh lord, I'm googling now and finding stuff about being able to inhale thread worm eggs that become airborne when disturbed. Also about people finding threadworms in their eyeballs and up their nose.

yes, my daughter would get them mostly up the fanny! I was trying to be discrete but there really is no other way to put it is there?!?!

seriously, another important thing to do is to cut fingernails nearly to the quick. That stops them being reinvested if they have an inadvertent itch in the night.

I always treat everyone just to make sure.

The first time I found her wormyfanjo (great word! :o) it was horrible, she was like OP's daughter, in tears. There was about 4 or 5 of them! Horrible buggers they are!

Oh we know the worms well...

Definitely Ovex and then again 14 days later (I think that's what the packet says).

Clean knickers each morning and night, sudocrem and short nails.

Oh and the whole family should drink the drink too!

I read on google as well that I need to hot wash all towels and sheets and Hoover like mad, both the floor in the bedroom and also the mattress.

Oh yes - I forgot that - wash bedding above 60 deg regularly.

I did glove up and get the torch out for my DD (3yo), and it was a sight I won't but really want to forget.

Don't drive yourself mad with the hovering, if you treat twice you'll get it sorted.

It's the sort of thing that is a lot less traumatising the second or third time, like nits.
