Which bedtime stories did you read this evening?

We had rather poor choices.

Mr Large in Charge - a spin off from a tv show in UK I think? Very stereotyped nonsense about Mr Large being 'amusingly' unable to cope with the children and the housework when his wife is ill in bed for the day. My 4yo thought it was hillarious.

And we had Commotion in the Ocean, which is very popular I know, but I think the rhymes are all a bit contrived. My 2yo loved it.

Did you fare any better?

naetha- we have tip tip, dig dig too... and my DS (17mo) is addicted to it! He loves it so much, and does little actions to each page (thanks for that MIL!)

Tonight we had Meg and Mog, and Kipper's Balloon.

mamsnet · 07/07/2010 22:11

Only one tonight as they got to watch some football..

Hansel and Gretel..

Usually some mix of Night monkey, Day Monkey with Peppa Pig, any of the various digger books in the house, and the obligatory Princess moment..

Don't you just love it??

androbbob · 07/07/2010 22:27

I see a theme here - footie for the older kids and Julia Donaldson for the younger ones!

CleanHankie · 07/07/2010 23:17

We had Mr Tick the Teacher (Happy Families are making a comeback in this household at mummy's insistance ) and Angelina Ballerina Halloween. And we read the Christmas version this afternoon, whoever said they'd read it tonight!

Handa's surprise mentioned a couple of times. It's our favourite book! Dd adores it, and I never mind reading it, and we always have lovely chats about it.

We had Sharing a Shell and Hairy Maclary for my 3.5 year old and 18 month old...

Takver · 08/07/2010 10:00

We're working our way through Farmer Boy - about Laura from the Little House books husband when he was a boy.

I like it as he has to do lots of chores and help a lot - definitely a good role model for dd

Fennel · 08/07/2010 12:02

DP is reading them Sherlock Holmes, the hound of the Baskervilles.

oh we are so so happy to be mostly beyond picture books.

Cortina · 08/07/2010 16:19

Gemma, Noel Streatfield

Meerkat Mail

DS LOVES this. We got it from the library today, and it's a brilliant book - little postcards on each page as the meerkat writes home to his family

LittleMisscantbewrong · 08/07/2010 21:05

The Giant Jam Sandwich

Great thread, will trawl in a minute for ideas!

IMoveTheStars · 08/07/2010 21:09

Oliver Jeffers books are brilliant too (though not The Heart and The Bottle, apparently)

(bet MN love my multitude of amazon linkage )

maktaitai · 08/07/2010 21:09

Half a chapter of Stig of the Dump. Well, not me, dh did it. Very, very long chapters - I couldn't wait to read it to ds as I loved it so much but am less enthusiastic now I am ploughing through it.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 08/07/2010 21:10

The Curious Garden.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 08/07/2010 21:17

Jareth, my DS loves Meercat Mail and Oliver Jeffers The Way Back Home.

Ive recently dug out all my old Ladybird "well loved tales" books and tonight DS chose Little Red Riding Hood.

He likes the older fairytale books nice and violent, he especially loves The Wolf and the Seven Little Kids, when the mummy goat cuts open the wolf to rescue her kids and replaces them with rocks!

We then had our usual nursery rhyme book, which sometimes end up sounding like im rapping them because im trying to get through it so quick!

CarmelitaMiggs · 08/07/2010 21:23

The Borrowers. The chapter when Arriety goes upstairs with Pod for the first time

I didn't read it as a child so it's a treat for me too

Gleeb · 08/07/2010 22:29

CleanHankie - we're doing Happy Families too, just had a whole week of Mr and Mrs Hay the Horse.

Tonight was a Disney picture book version of Peter Pan. It's too long.

fruitstick · 08/07/2010 22:37

DS2 (17 months) had Teddy's Picnic Basket and Where's Spot.

Then DS1 had
Magoosey (a fabulous book)
and Dr Seuss's Mr Brown Can Moo

Books I don't like mysteriously find themselves on the long slow journey to the charity shop

cyteen · 08/07/2010 22:43

Pardon Said The Giraffe, three times. It was DP's turn to do bedtime, mwahahaha

Dropdeadfred · 20/07/2010 17:26

The Great Dog Bottom SWap - was hilarious!
