Which bedtime stories did you read this evening?

We had rather poor choices.

Mr Large in Charge - a spin off from a tv show in UK I think? Very stereotyped nonsense about Mr Large being 'amusingly' unable to cope with the children and the housework when his wife is ill in bed for the day. My 4yo thought it was hillarious.

And we had Commotion in the Ocean, which is very popular I know, but I think the rhymes are all a bit contrived. My 2yo loved it.

Did you fare any better?

We had 'An evening at Alfie's' and one where a boy says goodnight to all his belongings (goodnight sock! goodnight shoe!). We did go to the library today so they were new.

Otherwise it would've probably been Meg and Mog, DD likes it when Meg steps on Mog's tail and Mog goes "MEEEEeeeeEeeEeEOoOoOOw!

Jenbot · 07/07/2010 20:43

She did want 'the cat book' actually, but I didn't know what she meant!

ledodgy · 07/07/2010 20:44

Room on a Broom, Peppa Pig Coach Trip and Everybody Poos. I put ds2 to bed tonight. I have hid Monkey Puzzle because we've read it every night for about 4 weeks so I told him i'd lost it.

SleepingLion · 07/07/2010 20:45

DS, aged 7, is listening to Mrs Frisby and the Rats of Nimh and loving it.

unfitmother · 07/07/2010 20:49

I remember 'Commotion in the Ocean', DS loved that he's 13 now (and abroad).
Just about to read the Worst Witch to DD, I remember reading it myself!

domesticsluttery · 07/07/2010 20:55

alana39: I have bought her the Charlie and Lola audiobook purely so that I don't have to read it quite so often!

alana39 · 07/07/2010 21:00

Good idea. Lola may still be small but she's not as funny as she used to be.

cleanandclothed · 07/07/2010 21:03

The very hungry caterpillar. Thanks so much to the poster who linked Handa's Surprise - DS crieed all the way home from nursery because he wanted to stay and read it, and it is £2.50 on amazon so I have now bought it!

NoahAndTheWhale · 07/07/2010 21:06

Chapter of Milly-Molly-Mandy to DD

Chapter of Sophie by Dick King-Smith to DS

I like chapter books

NoahAndTheWhale · 07/07/2010 21:10

So do DS and DD

DS had Tiger who came to tea for about 4 months when he was about 18 months or so. In fact when I packed his overnight bag for when DD was born (he was 22 months) I got a copy out of the library so there would definitely be one with him . Probably one of my more PFB moments

northender · 07/07/2010 21:11

Flat Stanley.

ohmeohmy · 07/07/2010 21:22

Inside Outside Upside Down, Green Eggs and Ham, The Grinch who stole Christmas and ANn I saw it all on Mulberry Street. In a Dr Seuss phase obviously

archieballerina · 07/07/2010 21:31

Paddington and the Marmalade Maze. Only made bearable by doing the voices but still a relief from Monkey Puzzle and One Snowy Night every other night.
I loved Flat Stanley as a child.

MrsJohnDeere · 07/07/2010 21:45

Ds1 (4) - Roald Dahl, The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me

Ds2 (2) - Monkey Puzzle, Ladybird book of tractors, and Tractor Ted in Springtime.

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 07/07/2010 21:47

none tonight as they were sent tobed early for trying to kill each other

however last night

what the ladybird heard
night pirates

they choose a book each.

Pinner35 · 07/07/2010 21:49

Room on the Broom and Meg & Mog.

booyhoo · 07/07/2010 21:49

kipper at the dentist- dull as dishwasher but mum bought a huge multipack of about 20 kipper books that ds wants to work his way through.

booyhoo · 07/07/2010 21:51

i loved meg and mig when i was small, only had it in school though, i only remember my mum trying to read to us once and it was such a strange event that we giggled so much she put the book away and never chanced it again.
we all loved and still do love books though.

booyhoo · 07/07/2010 21:51

who the f is mig? i mean mog of course.

ninah · 07/07/2010 21:51

a mad one about painting trees space ship colour so they flew
and Feather Boy which is excellent

MarthaQuest · 07/07/2010 21:53

DS asked for stig of the Dump, but i was too knackered and tbh the last chapter, which we're on is a bit slooow.

DD had nurersy rhymes; i'm bloody bored of i had a little sodding nut tree, can't wait for the delights of dogger and tiger who came to tea.

asdx2 · 07/07/2010 21:54

Dd 7 had a couple of chapters of Mrs Pepperpot Pippi Longstocking because I'm reading her books I read as a child

JaynieB · 07/07/2010 21:56

Little Rabbit goes to school
Who's at the door?
Kippers basket
Hairy Maclairy scattercat

I have to hide Winnie the Witch occasionally when I can't face reading it again..

HollyGoHeavily · 07/07/2010 21:57

We had There is a House Inside My Mummy as DD is obsessed with the fact she's going to be a big sister soon.

And then Mr Brave, quite possibly the most piss poor of all the Mr Men books (and there is stiff competition for that title)...

PMSL You aren't wrong there. She is wearing very thin like Karen in the second series of Outnumbered.
