We just finished Henrietta's House by Elisabeth Goudge - lovely book, but aimed at a bit older than I had realised when I skimmed it in the shop DD seemed to enjoy it though, despite the rather old fashioned language. I kind of miss the old days of Kipper & the Gruffalo though .. .

Harry and the blardy dinosaurs. Again.

Pennies - land of birthdays is my favourite one!
Read The Very Hungry caterpillar to ds who is particularly interested after having invested in a butterfly garden for dd's birthday but sadly said caterpillars, having turned into cocoons seem to be a little too dormant for a little too long after having been knocked over several times!

Dd- read You Choose, which is very interesting and gives rise to lots of discussion (perhaps a little too much when child in question is trying to string out the book time in order to delay the evil moment of sleep!!)

Jess5 · 15/09/2009 20:57

Land of Goodies is my favourite

Pennies · 15/09/2009 20:59

isittooearlyforgin - it's mine too and it's also particularly appropriate here too at the mo as DD had her birthday last week.

mankyscotslass · 15/09/2009 20:59

DD age 5 had "I love you forever"... she loves it, I cry every time, and then read for a bit in bed, the fairy books.

Ds age 7 had "the dawn trader", and was reading some Captain Underpants books in bed, plus his football magazine.

DS age 3 wanted "the marrow mangler", a little red tractor story.

DD & I are working our way through the Laura Ingalls Wilder books for bedtime stories, but Grandma is here today, so she picked a different one.

moonshine · 15/09/2009 21:00

Gobbolino The Witch's Cat to both dd (8) and ds(5). Lovely story but the language is a bit archaic.

Dd has now disappeared to bed with The Magic Faraway Tree which she says is one of her favourite books. Ds is still awake listening to Horrid Henry in bed. Both my 2 don't seem to need much sleep .

Takver · 15/09/2009 21:01

I love Gobbolino - I also like the sequel which has Gobbolino and the Little Wooden Horse - and where Sootica gets to be a kitchen cat too.

Winnie's New Computer
Dig, Dig, Digging
Monkey and Me
Kipper's Year

tegid · 15/09/2009 21:14

Jane Eyre - DS is only 18m so he can't really understand a 'proper' children's story any more than he can that. And if I have to read A Black Cat one more time...

On the plus side, it sends him to sleep a treat - as it does me..

comewhinewithme · 15/09/2009 21:16

Burgular Bill and Funnybones .

iheartdusty · 15/09/2009 21:17

Snowbone which is the sequel to Barkbelly which we just finished and which we really loved. I have been recommending it all over the place, a great exciting magical adventure story (altho' it does have some sad and gory bits, so probably no younger than 5+).

TheFallenMadonna · 15/09/2009 21:26

DS (8) is reading King Arthur by Geraldine McCaughren.

I'm reading Clarice Bean to DD (5) - again - but that's OK because I rather like it.

MrsBartlet · 15/09/2009 21:29

Lol tegid - dh just started reading Jane Eyre to dd tonight but she is 12 . I'll look forward to that tomorrow night! I read Swallows and Amazons to ds who is nearly 9.
