Chalet School - plot inconsistency bothering me

I don't know why I suddenly thought of this but perhaps my first 3 consecutive glasses of postnatal wine have brought out my inner dullness.

There is a Chalet School book (Exploits?) where some of the girls bake apple pies and mistakenly use cloves of garlic instead of cloves.

Not believable and silly.

early stuff in the Tirol for me, although am currently enjoying "Excitements" (21st birthday celebrations) in 5 minute bursts at bedtime.

Early stuff for me too! Just finished Jo of the Chalet School happy sigh

barbarianoftheuniverse · 17/11/2008 11:22

Is that the one with Christmas at the Mensches? That was such a perfect Christmas.

SummatAnNowt · 17/11/2008 12:25

Yes it was, I find myself wanting to put presents in shoes

Lucifera · 17/11/2008 13:35

Antonia Forest fans might like to read fanfic here. Great stuff!

Lucifera · 20/11/2008 13:03

by the way in case anyone wondered, no I didn't write the fanfic mentioned above! (wonders if killed lovely thread with apparent Unsportsmanlike Self-Promotion)

IdrisTheDragon · 20/11/2008 13:03

I've read the first part of the fanfic .

I like the war years best.

mankyscotslass · 20/11/2008 13:13

Yeah and the way the Nazis behaved wasn't a common view in Britain at that time

The link wont work for me.I love the Chalet school books, wanted to go there No Children around, too cold to go outside, may pull out my collection of Joey & Co.....

How nice that this thread is still going!

I was tidying up and found this Visitors it's not by EBD but I'm going to read it tonight! I don't remember buying it (tis a bashed up second hander). Will report.

I haven't reread the books in ages but I loved Exile when I was a child, def one of my faves. I loved all the earlier Tyrol ones.

OK inspired by my find the other day I have rooted out my box of Chalet School books and I have 32 of them! This includes two copies of The CS and Jo (free to anyone who wants it, the Armada edition) and a hardback of Peggy and the Chalet School which appears to have been lifted borrowed from my school library approx 25 years ago. Ahem.

Old thread I know but I remember these books and anyone interseted do listen to the rather good Radio 4 programme about them and their influence on so many women.

20th September 2011
Crime writer Val McDermid presents the programme.

UniS - There were three Farm School books, I think

Exile for Annis
Cherry Tree Perch
Strangers at the Farm School

I think it was Kenneth who died, of polio, in "Cherry Tree Perch". As I recall he was Kitty's twin and had been brain damaged at birth.

Strangers at the Farm School was quite life-changing for me as its depiction of two Kindertransport refugees trying to make sense of their new life at the Farm School really brought home to me the suffering caused by hatred and bigotry.

UniS · 09/11/2011 20:04

Gosh - old tread, I had forgotten about. Thank you Rufus. I have all three farm school books then, just had not read them very recently when I posted that mix up of names back in 2008

RufusTFirefly · 10/11/2011 14:50

Oops! I just saw the November bit and didn't clock the year! The books are great, though.
