Chalet School - plot inconsistency bothering me

I don't know why I suddenly thought of this but perhaps my first 3 consecutive glasses of postnatal wine have brought out my inner dullness.

There is a Chalet School book (Exploits?) where some of the girls bake apple pies and mistakenly use cloves of garlic instead of cloves.

Not believable and silly.

Not just triplets, but 2 sets of twins too! plus the singletons.

differentWitch · 27/10/2008 20:12

pmsl.

crumpet · 27/10/2008 20:12

God she had about 14 children by the end

NorthernLurker · 27/10/2008 20:12

She didn't just have triplets! She also had two sets of twins and four other children - 11 altogether plus 5 kids of varous ages they adopted. Angelina Jolie's got a long way to go yet.....

mankyscotslass · 27/10/2008 20:13

And at the end she was talking about more...

charitygirl · 27/10/2008 20:14

caroline becomes a famous flamenco dancer!

You know what is really sickening?

All those kids and she's still youthful, thin and with the time to put her hair up in 'earphones'!

LOL yes Jo was always Delicate wasn't she? Luckily she married a doctor (didn't they all?) and turned out to be robust enough to have several multiple births.

It was through the Chalet School that I first learned anything about the Nazis (pronounced nayz-eyes). In the Chalet School in Exile Bill's (Miss Wilson's) hair turns white between entering and exiting a secret tunnel... can this really happen?

Re. Caroline - see Castanets at the Wells, she goes to study ballet, it's not for her, she discovers Character and ends up becoming a Spanish dancer and marrying a Spanish dish.

oh when i don't have a squirming newborn on lap i shall post long on the irritatingness of joey bettany. so bloody perfect!

constancereader · 27/10/2008 20:18

I think the silliest thing in the Chalet School plots was the way in which Joey gets brought back from the brink of death by Robin singing her a song. Even as a child I thought that was bollocks

VintageGardenia · 27/10/2008 20:20

lol @ earphones

Wasn't there a dodgy bit where they copied the KuKluxKlan? Not for racist purposes, I think, but all the same...

NorthernLurker · 27/10/2008 20:21

In the first book isn't she bought back from the brink of death by Madge having her hair washed?

And in the Chalet School in exile isn't it giving up breastfeeding triplets that revives her? (naughty EBD!)

crumpet · 27/10/2008 20:22

I always wondered how they had enough money to privately educate so many children

constancereader · 27/10/2008 20:22

She was always on the brink of death, wasn't she? lol at hair washing, I remember that!

mankyscotslass · 27/10/2008 20:23

I loved the way Matey was always giving Joey sedatives, sneaking them in her warm drinks. These days she would be arrested.
Joey was always delicate, but heaven help the Robin...they were so grateful she took orders, because she would never be strong enough for family life

TotalChaos · 27/10/2008 20:24

and even less plausible that Margot wanted to take Orders too (she was going to study medicine and go off to be a Medical Mission Sister IIRC)

Habbibu · 27/10/2008 20:24

The Robin was much more annoying than Joey, I think.

mankyscotslass · 27/10/2008 20:25

For the fee payment they got massive discount for the girls (of course) and the boys got payed for by a miraculous bequeath from Grannie Maynard.

Icanseethesea · 27/10/2008 20:25

Ooh, my collection of CS books, built up over many years, is only missing one book! They are in a box in dd's room, but she is less than interested!
