Best & worst Julia Donaldson book? (In your opinion)

Just interested.

For me I love Tabby McTat and Smeds & the Smoos. Least favourite is Stickman.

I'd add super worm to the least fave too

I love Monkey Puzzle, Charlie Cook and Zog. Not a fan of the scarecrow wedding and the Highway Rat.

Favourites- Snail and the Whale, Paper Dolls
Worst- What The Ladybird Heard and The Princess and the Wizard (both so boring and repetitive!)

We haven’t read them all but I love What the Ladybird Heard, Tiddler, the Snail and the Whale and the Gruffalo/Gruffalo’s child. I think they’re all really clever. I like Room on the Broom but the line about being on the dragon’s inside annoys me.
I don’t like the Smartest Giant in Town.
I hadn’t heard of the Smeds and the Smoos until dd spotted the tv version on iPlayer. They did some work on it at school and she loves it. Thank you to the poster who mentioned the show as I’ve found it’s on near us in a few months so that’s part of her birthday present sorted!

I do not like reading Stickman aloud 'I'm Stickman! I'm stickman! I'm stickman!' It just feels tiring to say?

I also need someone to explain to me why the swans cannot see stickman for who he is when all other animals can?

DD3 is hugely into the highway rat and Zog, but less into Flying Doctors.

She will watch room on the broom but not so keen on the book.

Also I SOBBED when I realised what Paper Dolls was about...

I hadn't realised she'd written so many! DC have really liked:
The Gruffalo
The Hospital Dog
The Detective Dog
The Snail and the Whale

I really like the Paper Dolls and the Everywhere Bear

Don't like Freddy and the Fairy, the Ugly Five, Monkey Puzzle seemed like a less good version of A Bit Lost (Chris Haughton).

Don't know if all her books are made up of rhyming phrases but that really gets on my nerves especially when they don't work in our accent.

I'm not a massive fan but my pupils seemed to enjoy them,

There's also a line in Stickman that irritates me.

'Thanks, thanks a million, thanks without end.'

It's just an odd choice of words clearly only there to rhyme. Bugs me every time lol.

I also hate the tongue twisters 'snatched the sack and snarled' gets me every single time.

I also hate 'Roared' and 'Sword' together.

Faves are tabby mctat and tyrannosaurus drip (can't believe the hate on here for drip, it's fab!)

Don't like tiddler or superworm much, or highway rat

Oh yes also didn't like what the ladybird heard.

Stickman will always be my favourite but I'm not sure Santa should have been used to bring Stickman home.

The bit where he almost dies in the snow is a bit brutal mind, then he's nearly burn alive on the fire. Tough lesson for Stickman 😂

This is one of the reasons I hate Stickman!

Really dislike squash and a squeeze hated when the kids picked it

I think Snail & the Whale is my fave. I like stickman

I really love saying "dad says get a grip" when my kids are whinging 😂

I actually really don't like JD books generally, but the worst I've read is The Ugly 5.

I guess the Gruffalo is the one I dislike least.

Don't really rate any other than Room on the Broom and the Gruffalo's

But I am at a loss as to how people don't see the wonderful moral in A Squash and A Squeeze!!!!

Best book ever.

You think you have no room in your life/budget/heart/house but then you condense all your everyday expectations/obligations/hopes/expenses into one small space (metaphorical or practical) and you realise actually you have loads of space, you're just being too precious about it!!!!

Am I alone in this??!

I detest paper dolls, it's interesting to see how many of you have it as a favourite.
I love the smeds and the smoos, and room on a broom.

Also forgot to say I can’t believe the hate for the highway rat! We really like it, the bbc adaption on iplayer is great too!

Oh we bloody love JD in this house!

We haven’t read many so don’t have an unliked one yet.
Currently have both Gruffalo’s, Stick Man, both Zogs, Superworm and Snail and the Whale.

The trick with Superworm and Stickman for us is to kind of sing song some of the bits 😂
