Some Fretwork and the Interminable Christmas Play at the Chalet School

Now girls, line up and listen because this term is a busy one. Firstly we are combining our hobbies club and the Christmas play, so we will need our fretworkers to get busy on the scenery, some beautiful découpage for decorations, our nimble-fingered needlewomen on costume duty and some scrapbooks for - er...
Now one other thing girls. As you know the Chalet School has moved from the Tyrol, to Guernsey, to Armishire, to some island or other and thence to Switzerland.
This term we have moved again and the first thing I want you to do is to find out where the bloody hell we are....

Hilarious!!

Lydiaatthebarre · 10/01/2019 14:52

When was the original thread in this series started? Does it win the prize for the longest continually running thread ever on Mumsnet? It must be going for about three years now.

Lydiaatthebarre · 10/01/2019 14:54

I've just checked. It will be FIVE YEARS on 29th April Shock

Witchend · 10/01/2019 16:03

This has gone through 3 Christmas plays though, which is quite a long time. I think I must be nearly ready to move up to seniors now.

hels71 · 10/01/2019 21:23

So we can wear skirts instead of tunics and have our hair in one plait instead of kenwigses??

Witchend · 10/01/2019 22:52

As long as it isn't a pony tail. Smile

hels71 · 12/01/2019 18:20

Certainly not! I don't want Matey on my case for having unsuitable hair!!!!

morningtoncrescent62 · 27/01/2019 16:55

Five years and dear Joey doesn't look a day older, bless the girl. Miss Annersley still doesn't need glasses and Amy Stevens is back in the Juniors where she belongs.

ElinoristhenewEnid · 22/05/2019 18:33

Have just finished the last Chalet school book written by EBD. Must get a motorboat now!

Witchend · 23/05/2019 13:14

Only if you have Miss Farrarrs on hand in case of accidents.

hels71 · 30/05/2019 19:58

Those last few books are slightly bonkers! I am planning a complete re-read, including the new fill ins, over the summer...

ElinoristhenewEnid · 30/05/2019 21:00

I just don't understand her obsession with motorboats in the last 2 books.

Miss Ferrars achieved the impossible with the rescue and then there is this obsession with girls arranging races in the last book. As hels71 stated - slightly bonkers!!

Witchend · 02/06/2019 18:12

The most bonkers bit in the last book is all the "and the prefects didn't realise she wouldn't let it go" type comments and then it's never mentioned again.
I think generally it's thought EBD didn't write Prefects and possibly the one before.

emerencealwayshopeful · 03/06/2019 11:49

Theory is that Phyllis Mathewman wrote those.

But her books are more sensible in many ways than EBD's own.

The last few books are mostly collections of half thought through plots. I wanted prefects so much and then was very let down.

morningtoncrescent62 · 25/06/2019 20:25

I'm back. When I was last seen on this thread I was a sub-prefect and very much on the spot. I've reappeared two years later as a wicked middle. Anyone got a clock that wants boiling?

Papergirl1968 · 18/07/2019 15:24

Greetings, fellow chaletians. Are you aware there is a thread in AIBU called Not to have realised until now that Joey Maynard’s displaced organ was actually a prolapse?
I can’t do links, sorry. But you may find it entertaining Smile

Squiz81 · 02/09/2019 23:08

I found a stack of chalet school books in the charity shop, there's 16 of them and they cost me £2 for the lot!
I've just finished 'A problem for the chalet school'. I'm going to read the rest in chronological order. Feel like I have a lot of catching up to do!!

Witchend · 03/09/2019 15:47

Happy reading!

ElinoristhenewEnid · 10/09/2019 14:24

Just finished the chalet girls grow up - now that is one miserable book!

ElinoristhenewEnid · 31/01/2020 17:13

@Bloodybridget. Are the one drive ebooks still available? If so may I have the link and password? Many thanks.

Bloodybridget · 31/01/2020 18:17

@ElinoristhenewEnid I've sent you a message. Top secret!

CoffeeWithMyOxygen · 16/02/2020 15:21

My lambs! I’ve just been given a Kindle Paperwhite for my birthday - could some kind soul please send me the Dropbox link so I can add these to my library? I was hoping to be awoke by the Middles singing underneath my window, but looks like they’ve all fallen off a glacier.

Falderal · 19/02/2020 17:10

@Bloodybridget. Another one who is after the new link and password for the books. Would you be so kind? Many thanks.

Bloodybridget · 19/02/2020 17:53

@Falderal have sent you a message.

Bloodybridget · 22/02/2020 10:13

Does anyone know if there's a new password for the CS transcripts? I can't get on to it now.
