Some Fretwork and the Interminable Christmas Play at the Chalet School

Now girls, line up and listen because this term is a busy one. Firstly we are combining our hobbies club and the Christmas play, so we will need our fretworkers to get busy on the scenery, some beautiful découpage for decorations, our nimble-fingered needlewomen on costume duty and some scrapbooks for - er...
Now one other thing girls. As you know the Chalet School has moved from the Tyrol, to Guernsey, to Armishire, to some island or other and thence to Switzerland.
This term we have moved again and the first thing I want you to do is to find out where the bloody hell we are....

Crikey, are you in dear little Tiernsee for your hols, Nell? EnvyEnvyEnvyEnvyEnvy

What's it like in the winter? I hope you haven't participated in the ice fair, it can get very rough you know. Best to look on from a safe distance necking gluhwein. I hope you remembered to take your hobnailed boots.

Oh, and Happy New Year, everyone! And something to look forward to this year, GGBP are publishing Last Term at Taverton High by Helen Barber who wrote the lovely prequels to the series. I got seriously excited when I saw the title, thinking it would be about Madge's last term, but it's Rosalie Dene. However, if it's like the others by the same author it'll be a good read. I do hope she does some more prequels, though.

I was at Paddington 2 yesterday. Anyone else think the actress who played Mrs Brown would make a great Jo?

Witchend · 23/01/2018 15:49

We're currently in the middle of doing panto and I realised why the Chalet ones always seem rather flat to me. No innuendo! I suppose that's not surprising, although the worst innuendo jokes were back when the vicar played the dame and wrote them. those he did off the cuff on the night were worse. Grin

Cedar03 · 25/01/2018 15:34

Yes, I can't imagine there being any innuendo in a Chalet School panto.

Mrs Brown actress probably a bit old for Jo except in the very end of the series. Have realised - as reading various Chalet school books to DD - that Jo has produced 9 children and is still only about 32 years old.
Currently reading 'Excitements at the Chalet School' which is not too bad. No-one's nearly died yet but I expect that will come around eventually. Smile St Mildred's are keeping the panto to themselves so no children needed to act in it this time. And weirdly the form at the centre of the book - Inter V - has children who are 13 (the triplets, who else?) and a 17 year old in the same class.

Gruss Gott, everyone.
Shall we pop out between blizzards and have a snow fight? Let’s make sure the new girl has her face well scrubbed with snow. Just make sure no one scoops up a stone in their snowball. We don’t want any accidents!
Then when the ominous yellow cloud appears we can race back to the school, stragglers caught in the blizzard feeling their way along the fence which keeps out the nosy parkers, and Matey will order us into hot baths.
Simply topping!

Witchend · 28/02/2018 16:56

DD2 has been proclaiming it very Chalet School weather. Snowy, with blizzards coming up suddenly, and the snow so dry you can brush it off! She's gone off coasting (or sledging as we call it)

This could be expensive and addictive, especially if there are pillows of billowing cream involved. I've just discovered that the German Gymnasium (posh restaurant in Kings Cross) has a special Kaffee und Kuchen menu. At 4pm, when a little bell rings to signal the start...

Witchend · 15/03/2018 09:12

I'll have one of each Grin

Papergirl1968 · 15/03/2018 22:35

But where are the bread twists prettily served in little baskets? And the cakes bursting with honey and nuts?
Thinking about it, it’s lucky none of the girls had a nut allergy otherwise there would have been even more near fatal incidents!

Mydoghatesthebath · 05/04/2018 18:26

Were you able to do the delightful local custom of getting a fork, going to the counter and choosing you own cakes?

Mydoghatesthebath · 05/04/2018 18:50

Fretwork is fine but I'd rather be messing around with Ferry's car. Nobody else can ever think of touching it, else beware my wrath. I am new here so I am going to imprint like a duckling on a much older prefect and beg for a link to the shared drive if poss

Papergirl1968 · 18/07/2018 23:08

I’ve had a fantastic few weeks catching up on some of the books I’d never read on the one drive thing (thing being the technical term, obviously).
But I can only open the word files and not all of the books are in that format. I’ve tried to download calibre onto the iPad and it doesn’t seem to be working.
Anyone got any other suggestions?

Nat6999 · 21/07/2018 04:08

Can someone please send me details of the one drive?

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 21/07/2018 23:37

I am indulging in my annual reread and this time around the age issues are jumping out at me. In Head Girl, Jo is about 14. Robin is 8. Cornelia is 14. However, in Goes To It, Jo is 21, but Robin and Corney are both in the 6th form. Robin may be closer to 16 whereas Corney is at least 18, but All The Same.

Nat6999 · 22/07/2018 01:15

I'm really thick, what do I do with the one drive to get into it?

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 22/07/2018 10:13

Search for One Drive and log into it. Scroll down and find all the files - then it’s a bit of trial and error to get them to open in your Kindle! I email them to my Kindle and that seems to work best. Good luck!

pontefractals · 23/07/2018 22:04

Hello! Please could someone send me the one drive details? I appear to have locked myself out, despite being an ex-Library Pree 😲

Papergirl1968 · 24/07/2018 12:19

Has something gone wrong with One Drive? All the files seem to have disappeared and I was halfway through A Quintette In Queensland!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 24/07/2018 22:06

I can still see them - just checked!

pontefractals · 24/07/2018 22:33

Phew! Thought I'd jinxed them all by asking for a while there.

Papergirl1968 · 25/07/2018 11:54

I’m back in. For some reason I was logged in as myself.
A Leader In Spite Of Herself was hysterical.
Back to a Quintette In Queensland now!

GertrudetheFifth · 01/09/2018 00:04

Please could someone send me the One Drive details? Have been re-reading my paper Chalet collection while cluster-feeding my newborn, but now need to fill in the gaps.

Witchend · 01/09/2018 14:16

Hey! It's nearly time to cast the next Christmas Show. I was a Baby angel last year (with an enamel crown that didn't quite dry in time stuck to my head)
This year I'm hoping to progress to s speaking part, maybe a picturesque peasant or something.
Is the wonderful Jo going to have time to write it between ordering Anna to caring for those quad she had last month?

CatherineMaitland · 08/09/2018 09:38

Perhaps Jo will be "busy" yet again and Madge will have to cobble one up for this year.

Could someone please send me details of the OneDrive? I just found A Problem for the Chalet School the other day and it's made me nostalgic for more.
