For twenty years, picture book classic Guess How Much I Love You has captured the bond between parent and child, as Little Nutbrown Hare and Big Nutbrown Hare try to describe their love for one another, ending with the heart-warming, and now iconic phrase, “I love you to the moon – and back.”

Author Sam says “I know that somewhere in the world a mum or dad will reach for a copy, and read it to the most precious thing they have in the world. That thought really pleases me.”

In this spirit, we’re asking you to share the loveliest thing your child has ever said to you. Share your child's sweetest words and you'll be in the running to win a Guess How Much I Love You limited edition tote bag, a signed copy of the anniversary edition, a cuddly Nutbrown Hare plush toy, stickers and a poster.

In the meantime you can also enjoy these wonderful free Guess How Much I Love You activity sheets, available to download and print out.

Ashandco · 17/07/2015 12:32

My daughter is twenty months. Last night when i said "goodnight, love you" she replied with a big smile and "love you more"

foxmitten · 17/07/2015 12:46

My 3 year old came running to me when I was in the kitchen the other day. He is speech delayed so it can be difficult to understand him, and every coherent sentence is progress. He said "mummy baby sad, I give him hulk and iron man, he feel better." For context, Hulk and Iron Man are his two absolute favourite toys, he takes them everywhere with him and is very protective of them. I said "oh that's lovely, thank you for looking after your baby brother." He them went back into the front room, kissed said baby brother on the foot and said "I love you little guy".

Heart melted!

When I asked my 2 yr old who his best friend was, he said (in his cute 2 yr old language) "I no best friend, I got mummy". Grin

keshimonster · 17/07/2015 13:41

I love you

YAsoNBU · 17/07/2015 13:48

When my DD was about 6 we were doing the old favourite 'I love you to .... and back' game, outdoing each other with moons and planets and stars. 4 year old DS then pipes up 'Mummy I love you to Basingstoke' I didn't even get 'and back' Grin

dorsetsgem · 17/07/2015 16:38

my youngest is delayed with his speech and language but a couple of months ago made his first sentence. 'high five foot'. he then laid on the floor foot in the air for me to high five his foot. best first sentence ever :D

CotedePablo · 17/07/2015 16:57

'Mummy, it's ok to cry'. Said to me by my youngest daughter when I was gently telling her that her Gran (my Mum) had died that morning. Her own first baby is due in a few days, but I can see her wee worried face still as she said that (and if she's around here these days, she'll know exactly who I am!).

freefan · 17/07/2015 20:34

Has to be when my daughter told me I was her best mummy ever haha,I'm sure I'm the only one but still really sweet

katieskatie82 · 17/07/2015 21:00

My daughter hasn't said any words yet but her little laughs melt my heart, the sweetest sound ever.

Donthate · 17/07/2015 22:20

My friend once asked my son what he thought I was like when I was a little girl. He tilted his head and looked at me deep in thought before saying "Bonnie" Grin

RickOShay · 17/07/2015 22:23

If I was a caterpillar, I wouldn't eat your flowers Mummy. He has also told me that he loves me more than crisps and Ben 10.

SylvanianCaliphate · 17/07/2015 22:25

My DS said ' I'm moving out'

It didn't happen, he will still be here when he's 45....

pfcpompeysarah · 17/07/2015 23:07

My son said something recently about school being boring, and I asked him what made it boring thinking he would say the work or the teachers and he said 'its six hours without you' .. too cute!

NotCitrus · 18/07/2015 00:05

Tonight, after screaming for a couple hours [I'm the meanest mummy ever...], my boy came upstairs and asked me to brush his teeth (sign he's very tired and not coping).
He then said "I don't like you much Mummy - but I do like you a bit!"
I said I usually liked him and always loved him.

He asked me to tuck him in. It's tricky to do with him in a top bunk, but it's the attention of chatting while I tweak the duvet that's important!

I'm also one of his six best friends so I'm allowed to come to his 7th birthday party!

lhlee62 · 18/07/2015 00:06

My husband was trying to educate my 3 yr old with the world of music, he was playing Pink Floyd whereas I'm more chart pop music. I asked her if she liked mummy's music or daddy's music, she said I like both, but I like mummy's music more, but Alice likes Daddy's music!! Alice is only 19 mths and cannot express what she likes, but I thought it was really sweet that she didn't want to upset anyone

rachelmi · 18/07/2015 15:51

Can I live with you always Mummy? Even when I am a grownup? HELP!!!

clarem100 · 18/07/2015 19:03

the other day my 2 year old said, i love you mummy, and I love Dr Ranj

"Hows Abouts We Have A Cuddles"

Allthatnonsense · 19/07/2015 18:23

Putting fairy wings on my daughter (then aged 3) she asked me "can we go in the sky now?".

cluckyhen · 19/07/2015 18:50

When our beloved dog had to be put down due to cancer I was worried the little ones would think I had killed her....only for my dd to wrap her arms around me and say 'if you have cancer that bad in your belly we'll pop you to sleep too mummy so that you aren't in pain'.
