Year 7 Dd has read everything! Not really obviously but am stuck on what to get her next

She's a very able reader. She's recently read lots of John Green, Malorie Blackman, the Divergence series. Any suggestions for what next?

My dd is in year 8, she loves the whole dystopian teen stuff, Divergent & the like. She seems to have an endless stream of these sorts of book from her school library, does your dd have that as an option? Anyway, thinking of things she's liked recently that she's mentioned to me:

Older stuff, she liked the Dragonsinger trilogy by Anne McCaffrey, is obsessive about all the Percy Jackson books, quite liked Throne of Glass.

Gallagher Girls series (funny spy novels)
Beswitched by Kate Saunders (21stC girl time travels to Enid Blyton style school)

Oh, she also reads endless fanfic on her tablet, mostly Harry Potter.

Thanks so much - she's read all the dystopian stuff, plus Percy Jackson....she also had an obsessive Percy Jackson phase and now I am thinking about it wasn't there another one due to come out soon?

Not tried the Dragonsinger books but sounds from the review like it might be her sort of thing - will order the first one.

Has she read any Garth Nix? The Mister Monday set and Sabriel trilogy are fab. Also William Nicholson- the Windsinger trilogy.

Maybe a pointer to some of the brilliant YA review blogs written by teens? I'm not really sure why you need to get her things when she's old enough to be finding her own?

Joseph Delaney's "Spooks" series will keep her busy for a while, or try The Strangeling's Tale

How about the Mortal Instrument series by Cassandra Clare? They seem good. Has she read The Hunger Games series?

DD (7) has strangely been into Classics recently. Mill on the Floss, Anne of Green Gables, Black Beauty, and a ton of Jane Austen and Emily Bronte has been transported from my parent's house to our library. She's read all of the Classics at our house already so I added some more.

DS (10) read A series of Unfortunate Events recently by Lemony Snicket There are thirteen books that are a fairly light read but have a rich amount of vocabulary. Those are great.

For more girly reads I suggest the Threads series by Sophia Bennett or the Shopoholic series by Sophie Kinsella.

For those that like Percy Jackson, I recommend the Djinn series by Linda Davies. Fire Djinn, then Sea Djinn. Assume there are more!

Can't she go to the public library and choose her own books? My parents were never concerned about my reading material, and I let my children read whatever they fancied.

Absolutely can not recommend enough the Queen's Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner. Incredible books. I still read them now and find new details and subtleties, ~15 years after the first read. She is also a really interactive author who is online a lot and happily discusses the books with her fans which is great. 4, books so far... Really hoping for a fifth!

Has she read the Fallen series by Lauren Kate?

I would also second Stargirl and Joseph Delaney's Spook's Apprentice series.

That depends where you are, eddiemairswife - round here the YA section of our library has about 20 books in it, so once you've read those, you have to know what you want and order it in from other libraries. Luckily dd's school now has a very good library, and a very helpful librarian, but before she went up to 2ndary she was very dependent on recommendations on here, Amazon 'if you liked X' and so on.

Did somebody really say their 7 year old was reading The Mill on the Floss? What a waste!

I loved the unwind book series, but a little dark so maybe read first if she is sensitive

Many of the things I would have suggested have already been mentioned.

I see no harm in a seven year old reading The Mill On The Floss, but obviously that won't be the same experience as reading it with an adult's understanding.

DD (Y8) recommends the WondLa trilogy by Tony DiTerlizzi. The first book is called The search for WondLa. Also the Heist Society trilogy by Ally Carter. And Etiquette and Espionage by Gail Carriger.
DD also reads lots of fanfic.
